I'm starting this new thread as apparently our other one was over a year old!! shock

We'll have to do more gossiping to prevent this happening again.

Here's a link to the old one.

In rl was quite an age, (97) how wonderful to still be working and doing such a great job at that age!

Now, back to the plotline........True, but what will happen to Daphne and Adele? Not to mention Bartleby and the newer pony?

If the scriptwriters have any sense, they will have his coffin carried to St Stephens on a cart pulled by Bartleby.

Phoenix I think the actor was 87 or 88. Joe was in his 90s though.
Joe Grundy was one of my favourite characters. The conversation he had with Brian that made him decide to plead guilty to the chemical dumping was one of the most moving scenes I have heard on The Archers

Oops, my mistake. blush

The scene you refer to is this one

Sara65 Wed 24-Apr-19 18:34:43

I love that idea Phoenix, won’t be a dry eye in the house!

phoenix Wed 24-Apr-19 19:10:17

Susan is beyond belief! Thinking that "Christyfurr" has management status if he becomes captain of the cricket team!

1inamillion Wed 24-Apr-19 19:31:40

Sad about Joe, I'll miss that voice very much.
Can't stand Alice either, doesn't deserve Christyfurr - nice onePhoenix
Do you think that Nocasha and her Trev are in cohoots to get their hands on Bridge Farm cash??

Sycamore123 Wed 24-Apr-19 19:42:05

I’m addicted to the Archers and very sad to hear of the death of the actor playing Joe Grundy, will they let his character die? Re: Natasha, I agree that she may have a hidden agenda but Tom does seem a bit ‘wet’

phoenix Wed 24-Apr-19 20:00:45

"Wet"? Sycamore123 He's positively sodden!

LullyDully Wed 24-Apr-19 21:14:57

The farmer's lung got Joe in the end. He will be missed by all us Archers fans. Always good for a laugh.

Nelson, Walter, Nigel, Julia, Joe all cheered the programme up imo.

LullyDully Wed 24-Apr-19 21:20:04

Jo Grundy Grundy will be missed by all the Archer's followers. Sadly he finally succumbed to his " farmer's lung".

He joins a list of wonderful characters; Walter, Julia, Nelson, Nigel to name a few.

LullyDully Wed 24-Apr-19 21:21:06

Sorry to repeat myself, the first post didn't register at first!!!!

1inamillion Wed 24-Apr-19 22:20:32

What on earth was Phil thinking.
He's gone from having pre wedding reservations about Nocasha, to telling her all his misgivings about Tom. All grist to her scheming mill. Then he lets on about Tom's secret honeymoon plans, this isn't going to end well.

MawBroonsback Wed 24-Apr-19 23:17:40

Phil?
He’s been dead for years.
You meant Tony?

MawBroonsback Wed 24-Apr-19 23:18:55

lullydully you are forgetting Caroline?

I was really sad to hear about the death of Edward Kelsey, the actor who played Joe Grundy. It was lovely to hear the actress who plays Jill telling us how different he was from Joe in real life, a consummate actor without doubt.

Joe (98) was just a year younger than my mother so I was surprised to hear that Edward Kelsey was only 88. Too soon, but the great character of Joe will be one of those who helps weave the history of "The Archers". With his ageing pony Bartleby, taking Joe out and about in the trap (saving the planet before the rest of us got started) and his grumbling about his farmers lung and the way life had treated the Grundy's he could never cover his love of his family. The Cider Club will never be the same for those of us who are addicts but, what has now become "a contemporary drama in a rural setting" will still remain "an everyday story of country folk" when we think of Joe.

Lazigirl Thu 25-Apr-19 11:37:47

Yes poor old Joe. I agree that TA has now become a contemporary drama in a rural setting but I am still sentimental about it. Can recall first listening with my grandad, a real old Shropshire country chap. He wouldn't recognise it now, but hey ho, nothing stays the same. Now we have Nocasha and her ilk!

AyjayF Thu 25-Apr-19 12:44:12

R.I.P. Joe

eGJ Thu 25-Apr-19 18:23:29

I’ll raise a (large) glass of cider tonight to Joe,! Anyone else joining me??

1inamillion Thu 25-Apr-19 18:28:26

Yes Maw I meant Tony! blush

Nanoo15 Thu 25-Apr-19 18:45:47

Only just seen this thread - bliss! Don’t know anyone else who listens so this is great. The actor who plays Joe Grundy has just died, I shall miss him and very worried about his grandson Ed, think he is going to get into big trouble with his new driving job. Oh dear.

LullyDully Thu 25-Apr-19 20:04:23

Welcome Nanoo there are quite a lot of Archers fans here. I can not miss it sadly. My peace and quiet after supper.

phoenix Thu 25-Apr-19 20:30:52

Me too Lully usually listen while washing up.

However also listen to the omnibus on Sunday morning too blush

Elrel Thu 25-Apr-19 23:58:59

The Grundy family were, apparently, brought in to provide light relief. Not a lot of that recently with the loss of Nic, Eddie and Emma’s money and job worries, Mia’s stress over both maths and ‘adolescing’, and now the real life death of the excellent Edward Kelsey. He will be much missed both in TA and by listeners, a fine actor whose voice was never confused with others in the cast.
