Horses for courses. Some programmes I love (The Archers, A Good Read, Book of the Week, Book at Bedtime, Thinking Allowed, More or Less, In Our Time, Start the Week and lots, lots more) and some I avoid (including WH most of the time and the consumer programmes where they spend an inordinate amount of time talking about someone who has been overcharged 15p on their gas bill).

I'm currently enjoying Clarke Peter's series Black Music in Europe: A Hidden History.

I'm also enjoy the repeat broadcasts and archive programmes on 4Xtra and the huge back catalogue of podcasts. There are 848 episodes of In Our Time to listen to, 465 Start The Week, 463 A Good Reads and over 2000 Desert Island Discs. If you can't find something interesting in there ...

Me too, when i first retired i was an avid fan of R4 and that included the Archers, Rob and Helen story was going on.Now i find all radio irritates me, the talk shows more or less discuss the same topics and it feels like an endless round of Brexit, and other items in the news of that day. I no longer buy a paper everyday, don't have time to read them, i check the BBC News page that is me done for the day. I seldon watch the news on tv either. Some may say that is bad, but i feel rage when i listen to the things going on and there is nothing i can do to intervene.I live in my bubble of my local groups, my family and friends and my home.I am content with that. I prefer TV as i can watch what i want and i can filter out anything unplesent or annoying. I never thought i would say that, i use to love radio. I wonder if it is an age thing or have i just shut down to horrible things and the world in general.

I stopped listening to the Archers when it just lurched from one sensational problem to the next - or even three or four crises running together. I use to like it for the humorous trivia that made it true to life.

I’ve given upon Woman’s Hour too. Just constant negative moaning about “Women’s Issues” and people feeling hard done by because life doesn’t go exactly the way they think it should.

The comedy programmes are nothing except shouting (why is that thought to be funny!) and there’s hardly ever a good story, well written and well read; it all has to be “dramatised”.

There are still a few gems though.

I used to have radio 4 on constantly but there is rarely anything that interests me any more. Even the archers has gone downhill and is, dare I say it, tacky and boring. Is it just me?
