What makes you reach (or run!) for the Off button?

For my late father, it was The Archers theme music, which he referred to as the “dum- de-dums “
At the first notes he would do a Usain Bolt across the room to turn the radio off.
For me, I’m afraid it is The Listening Project.
Intrusive? Boring? I don’t know, I just can’t stand it.
(Just a Minute comes a close second!)

Most of the above 'hates' also for me, except like the Archers and Pointless, and gone off Coronation Street, although as loyal to it for years.

Eastenders. Mrs Brown & anything remotely to do with football will have me dashing for the Off button.
I like Corrie.
LOVE Rugby!!
Never miss The Archers. I have even found a way to listen to it on the beach in Greece on my phone the following morning.

I switch channel anytime an announcement tells me it's a reality show next. If I ever watch Love Island or stuff of that ilk I have told OH to shoot me. I cannot bear them with wannabee 'whacky' lame-brains playing up to the camera or Z list former celebs desperately attempting to rejuvenate their careers. Sorry if that sounds harsh but they set my teeth on edge.

I don't watch much day time television as I cannot stand most of the smug, loud presenters. Thank goodness for the recording facility and catch-up.

Football!!!!!!!!!!!

I hate ads featuring rich celebrities who pretend they dye their own hair! Of course they don’t grrrr. And any other ad featuring a celebrity I like who doesn’t need the money. It puts me off them, it’s a lack of integrity in my eyes. Daytime tv ads that just remind you that you’re closer to death. Finally, Homes Under The Hammer and all game shows. Better stop there I could go on all day!

That awful chavvy woman with the beehive hair do who says "are you gonna bingo?"

Patticake123 Thu 27-Jun-19 12:37:15

EastEnders and The One Show. We break our necks to get to the control buttons!

Nona4ever Thu 27-Jun-19 12:25:56

Diane Abbott. Gregg Wallace. Charlie Dimmock. Fiona Bruce. Miriam Margolyse. Judy Murray.

Tweedle24 Thu 27-Jun-19 12:19:48

Like you, NanKate, I can’t abide Diane Abbott’s awful, supercilious drawl.
Most of those already mentioned. I tend to record commercial TV so I can scroll through the adverts.

Escape to the country!

evianers Thu 27-Jun-19 12:08:35

Jeremy Clarkson - wholeheartedly agree!!! What a Berk

2old4hotpants Thu 27-Jun-19 12:07:30

Sarah Millican - can't stand her voice. Has put me off shopping at Tesco.

Reality shows like Love Island, and the one where the parents watch their offspring's holiday behaviour from a short distance.

KatyK Thu 27-Jun-19 11:55:54

I hate Pointless. When Pointless Celebrities comes on, my DH always says 'yes I agree, celebrities are pointless'.

rockgran Thu 27-Jun-19 11:51:10

Anything graphic about children or animals suffering. I know it exists but really don't need to see it to do my bit! I'm also heartily sick of seeing 'incontinence pants' - especially at meal times! ...and don't get me started on all the sport!

BladeAnnie Thu 27-Jun-19 11:40:10

Grates!!

BladeAnnie Thu 27-Jun-19 11:39:43

Liam Neeson's voice rather grated on me I'm afraid

pen50 Thu 27-Jun-19 11:36:04

Despite a large screen sitting in my living room, I almost never watch the television - it's only there for my son and for guests. I do listen to Radio4 but off it goes as soon as I hear altercations, the Archers theme tune, anything referred to as drama or comedy, Women's Hour .... Not much left, really!

But I do still read a lot and I love the internet.

TheOldDear Thu 27-Jun-19 11:34:11

Music behind voices, especially on Radio 4, which I find even more insulting and frustrating than the unavoidable moving and flashing images on almost every website.

On TV, it’s trailers (spoilers) that make me fume and have me pressing the mute button and putting the kettle on. I don’t want a taster of what’s to come in a new series. I prefer to wait for the story to unravel as the writers intended.

Conni7 Thu 27-Jun-19 11:33:43

Oh, and the One Show introduction "music".

helenrj Thu 27-Jun-19 11:33:41

Anything with Stephen Fry or John Humphreys

Hm999 Thu 27-Jun-19 11:33:31

Jeremy Vine on TV or radio.

Conni7 Thu 27-Jun-19 11:28:44

Miriam Margolys or Janet Street Porter. I watched her cathedral series with the sound off.

goldengirl Thu 27-Jun-19 11:11:37

Sport
Celebrity........[whatever it might be!]

Margs Thu 27-Jun-19 11:10:50

"Steve Wright In The Afternoon". At first (way, way back - he's been in this slot forever!) he was just flippant and edgy with his remarks but now it seems to have mutated into cringey sarcasm. And he talks over the music, does crap impressions of various celebs, not to mention his oily fawning and grovelling to his guests, ie: "I'm not just saying this but you're looking absolutely maaaaaaaarvellous!"

Give it a rest Mr Wright and give us a change BBC?
