What makes you reach (or run!) for the Off button?

For my late father, it was The Archers theme music, which he referred to as the “dum- de-dums “
At the first notes he would do a Usain Bolt across the room to turn the radio off.
For me, I’m afraid it is The Listening Project.
Intrusive? Boring? I don’t know, I just can’t stand it.
(Just a Minute comes a close second!)

I have to say that I like the specsavers adverts particularly the original sheering the dog one. It makes me laugh and its still very clever joke.

Any type of sports. Any type of car programme. Violence . Most reality progs. Sex scenes that make one feel like a voyeur. Jeremy Corbin and most party political broadcasts. All the worshipping of the so called ‘Royals’.
If fact most of the time I’d rather read or craft or be out and about.

My DH going to bed! He has the TV on all the time and it drives me mad so as soon as he's gone I leap for the remote. Peace, for a while, until I go to bed myself, then, guess what, the TV in the bedroom is on! I wait for him to start snoring breathing heavily, then I reach for that off button again. "Hey, I was watching that" he says. confused angry

Desert Island Discs - now we've got this anodyne "new" person presenting - encouraging very boring interviews on it.

Mapleleaf Wed 26-Jun-19 22:46:51

Party political broadcasts for me too. Why oh why do they insist on accompanying any dialogue with dreadful, mournful background music, too? It’s bad enough listening to them spouting the usual lies without inflicting that dreadful music as well. (They do it on such a lot of the charity adverts, too - really puts me off and has me reaching for the off button or volume control until they’re over!)

Diane Abbott
Zoe Ball
Jonathan Ross and his side kick with the messy hair whose name evades me
The two awful presenters who host Strictly
People who say skedule instead of schedule
Presenters who say off of
You’ve started me off now. I’m a grumpy old lady. ?

Animal charity ads that show awful footage, including the sound track on one in particular of animal cruelty and suffering.

I know it happens and give regularly to animal charities but I don't want to see it or hear it and IMO they should give a warning before they're shown.

I switch off at every mention of the B words - Brexit or Boris.
Normally I have Radio 4 on most of the day, and Radio 3 in the evening, but now my house is silent while the BBC wallows joyfully in politics for hours every day.
Apparently nothing else has happened in the UK for three years outside politics.

Namsnanny Wed 26-Jun-19 20:30:18

paddyann….I never hear it nowadays.

Just remembered, all adverts aimed at the nether regions, camera angles are almost gynaecological! (sorry for lowering the tone!}

Boosgran Wed 26-Jun-19 20:24:01

Jeramy corbyn and left wing comedians

God Save the Queen ,I've managed to avoid it most of my life ,even caused a huge row with my then boyfriend(now husband)father when i refused to stand for it at a Masonic dinner dance...I always made sure I went to the loo to avoid it after that and he learned that I wont stand for the Queen ever .In the days when they played it last thing at night on TV I always made it to the off switch before I was forced to listen to even the opening bars .

Millie22 Wed 26-Jun-19 18:48:20

That awful advert for some foot condition where the people are dressed up.

KatyK Wed 26-Jun-19 18:42:22

Oh yes Sara Lorraine Kelly. How could I forget. How did she get to be so famous? She just agrees with everyone and tells them how great they are. I could do that!

jusnoneed Wed 26-Jun-19 18:20:23

Anything so called "reality" and anything that has the word Celebrity included in it.
Football.
Soaps.

Lona

Thankyou very much, that song is now stuck in my head again, and I’ll be singing it all evening, and I hate it!

Namsnanny Wed 26-Jun-19 17:59:13

Mostly everything mentioned above, but especially adverts, any adverts.
Turn them down every time!

Sara65 Wed 26-Jun-19 17:43:54

Adverts with Lorraine Kelly, actually anything with Lorraine Kelly

Emmerdale (my husband loves it)

Any reality TV(except Strictly Come Dancing)

FarNorth Wed 26-Jun-19 17:33:47

Football
First notes of EastEnders theme
TV actually isn't switched on much in my house (no-one else lives here)
Traffic & news on radio 2 - I've been known to switch off for that, then on again after 5 mins.
Radio presenters who drivel on & on instead of just presenting the music

JanaNana Wed 26-Jun-19 17:18:22

All the adverts for Purple Bricks, don't know how they help to sell any properties at all.
