Started this thread as a diversion from all the political ones.
Only watched the first half hour as I wasn’t that bothered who was partnered with who really. Find the launch show a bit drawn out TBH.
Realised I only knew 5 of the 15 contestants, but that will change as the weeks go on.
Liked Tess’s gown, thought Claudia’s outfit looked similar to the PVC macs we wore in the early 70’s.

is one of them " famous" for being rich?

GrannyGravy13 Tue 24-Sept-19 19:16:27

Craftycat "the obscure American Women" has just finished (or may even still be in)There's something about Jamie in London, an extremely good musical based on a true story.

What’s Viscountess Emma Weymouth best known for? Being a socialite

me too

merlotgran Sat 28-Sept-19 19:00:16

Anneka Rice looks lovely.

Sparklefizz Sun 29-Sept-19 11:42:20

grapefruitpip Emma Weymouth helps run Longleat Safari Park. There was a documentary about her and her husband a couple of years ago and they work extremely hard, live in a small shabby flat in the stately home (which is open to the public in case you didn't know) and she actually seems a very pleasant young woman. She used to be a model and is the daughter of a Nigerian billionaire and a British woman.

Regarding Neil, does anyone else think he's a bit creepy? Last week it was said that he choreographed that he was leaning in for a kiss to get a dig at his separated wife, Katya, and her kiss scandal ..... but he was doing it again yesterday and he seems a bit too much "in his partner's space" in my opinion. He seems a bit pervy, I didn't like him when he was interviewed, and tend to agree with the person, whoever it was, who said that he and Katya had a "marriage of convenience" when they partnered up professionally years ago. Maybe this is why he wasn't fazed about the kiss when everyone thought how well he had handled it.

Thoughts anyone?

Emma Weymouth is married to the heir of Longleat, Will one day be Marchioness of Bath

EllanVannin Sun 29-Sept-19 11:58:19

I don't know whether it was because I was tired last night but I wasn't entirely impressed with any dancing last night.
I may have been spoilt by those in the past who'd really put their minds to what they were doing, such as it was a pleasure watching Stacey Dooley last year and even Debbie McGee before that.

I wonder who'll go out tonight ? James Cracknell ? clueless ?

merlotgran Sun 29-Sept-19 12:29:37

Love Emma Weymouth. I have zoo envy. grin

grapefruitpip Sun 29-Sept-19 12:32:07

OK folks, thanks for the info on Emma. I think the whole thing is totally burnt out. Thanks anyway.

Sparklefizz Sun 29-Sept-19 13:27:54

Emma Weymouth's and her husband, Ceawlin Thynne, are a lovely couple in my opinion, judging from the documentary I said I watched. I don't know them personally, of course.

Ceawlin had an awful childhood - his father is bonkers and had dozens of "wifelets" which drove Ceawlin's mother away to live in France, and Ceawlin and his sister were sent to the local comprehensive school where they were bullied. Ceawlin said on camera that he madly envied the local lads who lived in the village in ordinary little cottages because they could have lives of freedom with 2 normal parents. He went back to a huge frightening home with a frightening father, a succession of weird women turning up for sex, and no childhood.

I think he felt he would never meet anyone who would want to marry him and take on the burden of Longleat which struggles to keep going, with the addition of a mad parent of 80+ years living in the attic who refuses to cooperate with anything the son suggests, who still has various "wifelets" coming to visit, who threw a complete tantrum when his son wanted to remove the badly painted pornographic panels he had attached all around several of the ancient rooms in the house (Longleat is not far from me, I know it quite well - have seen the porno panels - so badly painted. Poor Ceawlin had to sleep with those around his bed as a child!)

Poor Emma suffered horrendous racial abuse from her mother-in-law-to-be when Ceawlin proposed, because the woman said that Ceawlin would be "diluting the blood line of centuries" by marrying a woman of colour. They went ahead anyway.

She nearly died having their son and had to spend months in hospital after the birth.

I think as a couple they are doing a grand job and I hope she does well in Strictly.

I hope he and the lovely Emma have a happy life and that she does well in Strictly.

Sparklefizz

Well put, totally agree

LondonGranny Sun 29-Sept-19 14:06:04

I have friends who throw Strictly parties. I did go to one once and it's the only episode I've ever seen but that thing on all shows like that which does my head in is the deliberate manufactured tension in announcing who goes through. You don't get that on Radio 4 contests, they'd call that 'dead air' and the technicians would panic!

WOODMOUSE49 Sun 29-Sept-19 14:34:47

sparklefizz - I hope Emma Weymouth does well too. I like Neil and so glad to see more of him and his choreography now he has a partner.

Thought last night was brilliant. I think it will be a much tighter competition this year. Looking forward to reading the positive comments on here about the show.

calendargirl. I read the politic thread forum and need something like this thread as a diversion from the negativity elsewhere.

Craftycat
Am I right in thinking you won't be watching RuPaul's drag race where Michelle is a judge ?

Newquay Sun 29-Sept-19 22:31:59

Just watched (predictable at this stage) results on catch up. Found first dance quite disturbing, Oti being thrown around. What were the audience shrieking at? Totally spoils the fabulous singers and musicians.
Whizzed through the rest. Result as expected. Don’t think i’ll Be watching many more sadly.

MawB Sun 29-Sept-19 23:15:45

Poor James Cracknell - clearly a graduate of the John Sergeant/Ann Widdecombe School of Dancing grin ?

paddyann Sun 29-Sept-19 23:27:16

Thet spoiled the Lewis Capaldi song ..shouldn't the singer get some respect in these shows instead of all the shouting etc .

WOODMOUSE49 Mon 30-Sept-19 01:22:48

Every year it is the same moan about not knowing many of the celebrities. By the time we reach the final the moans are forgotten.

Last year hardly anyone over 20 years of age had heard of Joe Sugg. grin

callgirl1 Mon 30-Sept-19 01:31:39

My daughter and I were in the studio audience on Saturday night. Regarding all the clapping and cheering, we were being egged on all the time by the floor manager to applaud loudly and cheer every time the dancers performed any exceptional moves. A singer was recorded for 2 weeks from now, and they recorded it again, bec ause the audience didn`t clap and cheer loudly enough. We enjoyed being there, but views are restricted, and the chairs are horrendously uncomfortable, so we`ll happily watch on TV from now on.

Sparklefizz Mon 30-Sept-19 11:48:11

Very interesting callgirl

grapefruitpip Mon 30-Sept-19 13:18:54

Cant help feeling James C should have quit while he was ahead ie a medal winner.

ninathenana Mon 30-Sept-19 15:13:08

David to go next, he "dances" like a robot.

It's only week two, a long way to go and I have a top 4 but that may well change.

gulligranny Mon 30-Sept-19 15:13:38

Only just caught up with Strictly this year. Who is the American woman with the face lift and the trout pout? Who is that sweet child Karim? And when did poor put-upon little Andy Sugden from Emmerdale Farm become a sexy hunk?!

annodomini Sat 05-Oct-19 22:37:12

After tonight, I'm not so sure about David. It looks to me as if Anneke has to go. There was precious little dancing in her performance which seemed to consist of chasing poor Kevin around!

EllanVannin Sat 05-Oct-19 22:48:12

Yes, I would chase Anneka off, with her wooden legs.
Kelvin will do well as Karim will also.
