Started this thread as a diversion from all the political ones.
Only watched the first half hour as I wasn’t that bothered who was partnered with who really. Find the launch show a bit drawn out TBH.
Realised I only knew 5 of the 15 contestants, but that will change as the weeks go on.
Liked Tess’s gown, thought Claudia’s outfit looked similar to the PVC macs we wore in the early 70’s.

I've gradually gone off Strictly. I haven't bothered with it this year.

The first few years were fun but now it's got so predictable.

There’s something very endearing about Anneka, absolutely dreadful dancing, but I reckon the public will vote her back in

Blinko Sun 06-Oct-19 08:05:49

Thanks, Sparklefizz for the info on Emma Weymouth. I haven't seen the documentary referred to. What a sad upbringing for the Viscount. Hope she does well.

Had gone off strictly the last couple of years but enjoying this series.Thought there were some brilliant performances last night.Really like Emma,in the interview with Claudia afterwards and at the scoring you can see how happy she is without her needing to jump up and down screeching!

I have just watched Strictly and thought it was an amazing show. So much talent. I can see that David and Anneka will go in the next 2 weeks and then it's anybodies guess. (I wish someone would tell Anneka to be quiet when the judges are speaking to her. I can't believe that she is answering them back - doesn't she know how awful her dancing is?)

Sparklefizz Sun 06-Oct-19 10:22:46

I am absolutely loving this Strictly series .... so much talent! But I am finding Anneka annoyingly "Pollyanna-ish" about her efforts, and I found it hard to believe when she said she didn't know that she was supposed to be doing the Charleston. I saw Kevin try to avoid rolling his eyes.

Once David and Anneka have gone, as they surely will, it will be hard to pick a winner. I don't particularly like Michelle but her dancing last night was fantastic and I couldn't take my eyes off them as they went round the floor.

Mike Bushell is too full of himself, in my opinion, and irritatingly bouncy like a puppy.

You are not alone. Have never watched it and never will - can't stand the hype. It's even on the news! How is it news? BBC has gone completely over the top - just because they have a popular show for once. But oh my days, Saturday nights are a desert. Oh well, it makes us get our library books out and that's not a bad thing.

mrsHom Sun 06-Oct-19 10:31:35

Sorry. Forgot to say I was replying to oldgaijinn.

I only watched a bit of this programme one day when DDs were here and wanted to watch it.

That is one awful programme!!!! smile

I hate the sets which are so "busy" that you cannot see what is gong on; I hate the hype - and the person who is going to get shafted is................. (wake up from long sleep) X; watching women dancing in high heels is unpleasant; seeing people made up to the nines with their hair scraped back off their faces so that they will gradually go bald; slug eyebrows; "celebs" flaunting themselves as if they really have something to offer; judges who think they are the bees' knees; noise, noise noise - in-your-face noise - maybe I should go back to bed now!!

petra Sun 06-Oct-19 11:57:09

I take it that you didn't like it then, lucky?

Gonegirl Sun 06-Oct-19 11:58:10

I have developed a total aversion to it.

EllanVannin Sun 06-Oct-19 12:07:29

I certainly don't like all the hysteria/screaming that goes on. This sort of nonsense rubs off on younger people who then think it's the norm to be so excited. Get a life !!

dragonfly46 Sun 06-Oct-19 12:07:46

I love it!

Eloethan Sun 06-Oct-19 12:43:41

I do like the music and the band though - great singers.

TerriBull Sun 06-Oct-19 13:10:06

I agree with others, pretty bored with it now, they need to change the format it's tired, I only half watched it last night, don't think I'll continue as winter draws on.

Charleygirl5 Sun 06-Oct-19 13:25:14

It is dragged out for too long and the screaming is driving me crazy.

Heaven knows how much money Anneka is paid to run across the stage several times. I think she will receive her marching orders tonight. I will record it and then I will not have to endure the screaming.

Millie22 Sun 06-Oct-19 15:01:25

Anneka looks quite nice when she stands still. I feel sorry for Kevin but then he did win last year.

Newquay Mon 07-Oct-19 08:51:51

We record it then just watch each dance which keeps all the fuss to a minimum. Can’t do with the audience screaming-is it engineered (scream now!) does anyone who has been in the audience know? Agree the singers and musicians are brilliant-wish they could have their own show.

Resurgam123 Mon 07-Oct-19 09:06:19

Dare I say I don't ever watch "Strictly Come Dancing"
I refuse to call it "Strictly."
(I am feeling a real curmudgeon this morning. )
I do have two left feet.
Enjoy it if you will.
???

Luckygirl Mon 07-Oct-19 09:20:59

Got it in one petra !!!!! smile

DanniRae Mon 07-Oct-19 09:24:47

I was in the audience when "Strictly" came to Wembley (instead of Blackpool) and, as far as I can remember all the cheering was genuine. It is a really exciting show to be part of and I thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience grin.
Thanks Resurgam I will enjoy it!
I really can't understand why people, who don't like the programme, bother to come on a thread to criticise it? What does it achieve? Do they think that we fans will think "Oh, these people are right - I don't think I will watch it any more!"
Does it annoy people that we love it? I look forward to reading the replies and having it explained to me.

Luckygirl Mon 07-Oct-19 09:29:33

It is called sharing opinions, and does not interfere with others' right to love it! Good on them!

jo1book Mon 07-Oct-19 09:36:07

I think it is an awful programme; loud, contrived and tacky. I do not see the appeal to anyone over the age of 14.

merlotgran Mon 07-Oct-19 09:47:07

My young adult DGDs love Strictly and we have a family sweepstake to see who picks the winner. We are all scattered around the country, DH is still in hospital so we take the mickey, have a laugh and generally enjoy ourselves via a group Facebook chat. It usually starts with DGD1, who is usually getting ready to go out, typing, 'Are you ready, Granny?' They know I'm feeling lonely and anxious but although they're both at uni with lives of their own they look upon Strictly as family fun just like we used to gather around the telly on a Saturday night in the good old days.

You have to take it with a pinch of salt.

ninathenana Mon 07-Oct-19 09:49:16

In my opinion the only way to watch it, is to record it and whizz the bits in between the dancing.
