What a lovely feel-good film this is! I heartily recommend it and would even suggest it should be available on the NHS!
As an added bonus I met up with Bluesapphire who was there too and we agreed it is a lovely film.
My neighbour did have to pass me a tissue at one point as 3 of us sat in a row having a little teary moment!
Do go and see it!

I enjoyed the film with such great acting. I will miss Maggie Smith in the next film.

The clothes were fabulous.

My one criticism is that the ending reminded me of Agatha Christie books that wrap up each thread of the storyline at the end. I would have preferred to have had one storyline left for me to wonder how it was going to be resolved in the next film.

Just caught up with this thread.
Loved the film, hope to see it again one day, great on the big screen with loud music.
Didn`t watch all the Tv series but have just bought myself the box-set!

I'm not a great fan of Downton (haven't watched TV series since the first or second series) but I went with my mum to see the film and thoroughly enjoyed it. Lovely music, it's visually superb, great acting and, as others have said, funny and poignant moments. Well worth seeing.

Gorgeous feel-good film and as comforting as a big bowl of syrup pudding and custard.

Lovely.

I enjoyed the film although not as much as the TV series. David Haig and Geraldine James were particularly good however.
Judy Garland film is next for me.

I went to see this last night and enjoyed it for the costumes and the settings, though I felt the storyline, on the whole, was quite implausible and far fetched. Having said that, there were some humorous spats between Maggie Smith and Imelda Staunton, and there were some moving moments in the film. I’m glad I went to see it, even though it was rather silly.

Just got home from seeing this marvellous film. I had goosebumps and tears in my eyes as soon as i heard the theme. I throughly enjoyed it and judging by the laughter and other sounds in the cinema everyone else did to. I truely hope this becomes a 'classic'. It is like a piece of social history on how the high class houses were run and how the family within lived. The downstairs staff are like old friends and i was so pleased that Barrow was happy in the end. Carson was puffed up with pride and Mosely all of a quiver!!!! lol. The stars of course were Maggie Smith and Penelope Wilson with their almost 'double act' of one liners. If you enjoyed the series you will love the film. smile

We went on Friday after the build up on here, I had to.
I enjoyed it though the plot was pretty unlikely.
Maggie Smith is worth watching as ever and the reclining seats at the Odeon were very comfy.

I went this afternoon - braving a cloudburst and some flooding on the roads. I had never watched the series but found the film agreeable if not gripping. There are many plot threads that will almost certainly lead to at least one sequel.

I went on Thursday morning and yes Cineworld near me is more than double the price.

Jane10 Sun 29-Sept-19 14:39:34

We went on Sunday afternoon.

Pudding123 Sun 29-Sept-19 14:23:05

Sorry it was Cineworld not Vue

Pudding123 Sun 29-Sept-19 12:06:37

Jane10 glammanana and tanithe I went last Sunday afternoon, did you go on a particular day ?

Pudding123 Sun 29-Sept-19 12:03:59

It was a Vue my daughter booked via her phone I noticed cheapest seats £10.50 and then I think £11.50 and£ 14.50 I presume mine was the £10.50 as I am over 60 but didn't really like to ask anymore in case she thought I was being mean !I must say the seats were really comfortable (big red reclining ).I thought it was just me being out of touch with prices.

Jane10 Sun 29-Sept-19 11:07:16

Me too. £5.99 at Vue with great seats.

glammanana Sun 29-Sept-19 11:05:39

Pudding123 Why was it so expensive my ticket was £5.99 with state of the art seats that you could sink in .

tanith Sun 29-Sept-19 10:51:20

Pudding123 wow that’s expensive I only pay £5.99 at my local Vue cinema.

I saw this film last week and loved it. It was like meeting up
with old friends again. The cast are excellent, and I love the house itself, - Highclere Castle I think.
I do hope there is to be another film. But was there a hint that one popular cast member might not be in it?

SirChenjin Sun 29-Sept-19 09:39:25

DH and I went to see it last night (reluctantly on his part) and it had everything you would expect - lavish costumes, beautiful scenery, terrible acting, humour and rather loose storylines. Two hours of easy viewing popcorn - bliss!

There’s definitely scope for a sequel - if there isn’t one in a couple of years I’ll eat my peacock feather trimmed hat.

Pudding123 Sun 29-Sept-19 09:12:41

I went to see it last Sunday with my daughter who had never seen any of the TV series, she loved it and is has now watched series 1 and 2.I must admit I found it a bit contrived but was glad I had gone to see it once I had got over the shock of paying £22 for our tickets !

annep1 Sun 29-Sept-19 08:43:46

Sorry to disagree. I found the film boring compared to the series, which I loved.
Best I can say is it was two peaceful hours that didn't require much concentration (on a lovely recliner)
