Hello all, good wishes.

This was on over Christmas, but fell asleep on the sofa missed it.tchblush

Just watched it on catch up, and if you like a bit of Victorian Gothic, I recommend it!

Bill Nighy is good, and without giving a spoiler, a great twist at the end!

Thanks phoenix I did see the title and I love Bill Nighy so I was thinking about watching it. I will do so now. ?

Jane10 Tue 31-Dec-19 18:19:46

I recorded it but after reading that it was a horror thriller I was too scared to watch it ?

phoenix Tue 31-Dec-19 18:23:09

Jane 10 there are a couple of gory scenes, but don't let that put you off, definitely worth a watch!

(IMO anyway)

Calendargirl Tue 31-Dec-19 18:27:52

Yes, it was very gory, but worth watching.

Sara65 Tue 31-Dec-19 18:35:36

I bought the DVD when it came out, but haven’t watched it yet, it’s in the pile of unwatched DVDs!

But your recommendation has made me dig it out, maybe watch it tonight.

I'm a very delicate flower Phoenix I could faint!
(Note to self - must get grip)

Jane10, I usually avoid horror films like the plague as they 'frighten' me!!! I didn't realise this was one else it too would have been avoided! But although gory and 'eye closing' at times I thoroughly enjoyed it and the twist at the end was ???!!!!! I think you'd be ok!

phoenix Wed 01-Jan-20 14:25:59

So Jabberwok, you would recommend it? Must admit I looked away a couple of times, but I thought quite a lot of the gory bits were more implied than explicit.

Definitely worth watching for the twists, and very well acted.

Jane10 Wed 01-Jan-20 19:55:49

Well I watched it with eyes closed at the gory bits. Unfortunately, I sussed the real Golem and also the end twist.
It was well done though and I always like Bill Nighy. Nice to see him in a different sort of role.

I’ve just watched this with dd and we both enjoyed it. I was knitting at the same time so didn’t see too much gore. Douglas Booth is such a fine actor, though no boy should be that pretty! grin

Ah but would you have guessed the twist if you hadn't read on here that there was a twist, Jane10 ?

yggdrasil Thu 02-Jan-20 08:51:56

I missed this, which channel was it on?

Teetime Thu 02-Jan-20 09:27:53

We saw it before Christmas on Amazon Prime and both thought it very good.

phoenix Thu 02-Jan-20 10:22:48

It was on BBC 2 on December 27th, yggdrasil

Jane10 Thu 02-Jan-20 10:27:26

Phoenix I didn't really think it was a twist. Just something else that happened. I'm not meaning to be a smart arse and I was wondering what the promised 'twist' would be!
I wouldn't have watched it without your recommendation though so thank you. sunshine

Glad you enjoyed it!

It got me a correct answer on University Challenge the other night, too! I bought the dvd a while back and really enjoyed it; was a real fan of Ripper Street.

POGS Thu 02-Jan-20 14:35:19

Hi pheonix

I thought I would watch this film because you recommended it. It is my cup of tea and I wondered how I missed it was on.

I enjoyed it so thanks.

SueDonim Thu 02-Jan-20 15:06:24

I liked Ripper Street, too, although I’m not really a detectives fan.
