Evening all, good wishes.

Just (while channel hopping before bed) and seen Miriam Margoyles on Graham Norton.

She was wearing the same dress as on The Last Leg, and some other programme that I can't remember.

It's good to not waste money and also not buy stuff you don't really need, but in light of recent threads on "old person" smell, let's hope she's given it a good airing between each wear!

Tedious old bat. A complete and utter embarrassment.

Drug dealers were using my house.......oh the hilarity.

Luckygirl Sun 12-Jan-20 11:23:28

Her dress was decent - just about!

Leftie invites Lefties to sit on his sofa at my expense and talk about Lefti-ism, which they consider right! I gave up watching Graham and programs of the same ilk years ago.

I think Graham Norton has the best guests and think Miriam Margolyes is fantastic. She always has me laughing. Agree with pp that she is very compassionate when it is called for.
If you are boring on a chat show you are unlikely to be invited back.

Callistemon Sun 12-Jan-20 11:54:15

The only reason any of them are on a chat show is to publicise their latest book/film/TV show.

It is not for their wit or entertainment value.
They 'do the rounds'.
It us pure publicity at the licence payers' expense.

Do they get paid on top of all that free advertising?

My favourite guest is Michael Caine who always has a good story and is so interesting and easy to talk to. The most difficult guest is Harrison Ford, who is a real struggle to open up.

I found MM so disgusting when discussing male hygiene on Graham Norton that I immediately turned it off.
I think she is an awful person - I certainly won't watch her again angry

KatyK Sun 12-Jan-20 13:35:37

I agree DanniRae

She seems to play the same character in whatever she appears in and I hate her in reality shows where she makes everything about her. She did a series of documentaries in which she travelled over America and met lots of different people from all walks of life and was very good in that. She does seem to favour short dresses, trainers and socks for every occasion, not a good look for her.

SirChenjin Sun 12-Jan-20 16:37:21

I think the American documentary was where she went to a very religious family and announced - as they opened the door to her and welcomed her warmly - that she’d just farted on their doorstep. It was really unnecessary I felt - even if she didn’t agree with their religious beliefs.

KatyK Sun 12-Jan-20 16:40:01

She can be funny and comes across as caring but she takes her 'no filter' chat too far (in my opinion).

trisher Sun 12-Jan-20 16:41:38

Ooh dear an old lady who farts and mentions it! And who dresses how she feels comfortable Whatever next!!!! Old ladies should just keep quiet about bodily functions and dress modestly. They can also sit in the corner and knit providing they do it without disturbing anyone!

What a truly revolting, obscene and vulgar woman. Why anyone wants to listen to her foul and course language delivered in a cut glass accent I don't know. I switch her off.

lemongrove Sun 12-Jan-20 16:50:21

MM has always been coarse ( in every way!) Am always surprised that she gets invited to go on shows, but suppose they are hoping for the coarseness to pop out and that’s why.
She does wear odd looking dresses, as if she’s going into the garden to do a bit of ‘composting’ ?

SirChenjin Sun 12-Jan-20 17:43:54

Old ladies should just keep quiet about bodily functions

While they’re on telly and it’s not relevant to the situation, yes. Others manage to - including other old ladies.

SirChenjin Sun 12-Jan-20 17:44:50

In fact - not just on telly. Talking about farting in public is something my almost 13 year old grew out of a few year ago.

KatyK Sun 12-Jan-20 17:49:37

Oh no I'm not for old ladies sitting in corners knitting. I'm definitely not that sort of old lady and good for Miriam for not being either. I just thought what she said on Graham Norton was a bit over the top.

Callistemon Sun 12-Jan-20 17:54:43

Farting is the least of it trisher
Do you think going on a chat show and asking other guests if they've had their foreskin removed is acceptable for anyone to ask at any age? Unless it's a medical discussion?

If she wants to chat about her own sexuality, fine, but interrogating someone else about theirs on TV is rude and intrusive and done deliberately to make others feel uncomfortable.
The days of her being a slightly mischievous woman have gone and she is lewd and rude and quite perverted.
If a man started questioning women in such a fashion about their labia or breasts there would be an outcry.

KatyK Sun 12-Jan-20 17:56:36

She also said 'men are dirty'. I don't think a man would have got away with saying that about women.

Luckygirl Sun 12-Jan-20 18:14:14

She was very good in Ladies in Lavender though.

SirChenjin Sun 12-Jan-20 18:14:16

If a man started questioning women in such a fashion about their labia or breasts there would be an outcry

Very well said Callistemon - you are spot on.

Callistemon Sun 12-Jan-20 18:18:25

Ladies in Lavender

If you had asked me who was in it, I would not have remembered her!!
This doesn't mean she can't act, but in question why such crudity is supposed to be acceptable in old women but not old men, or any men for that matter?

sparkii Sun 12-Jan-20 18:36:42

There is a lot of crude smut about. The much lauded Fleabag comes to mind. Oh and Gervais at the Baftas.

MerylStreep Sun 12-Jan-20 18:42:26

Callistemon
I love Call the Midwife but I detest this woman so much she was spoiling it for me.
She's offensive and looks as if she could do with a good scrub.

Chewbacca Sun 12-Jan-20 18:50:00

Excellent post @ 17.54 Callistemon. If it was a man quizzing women about their sex organs, on national tv, there would quite rightly be an outcry.
