Was looking forward to this. Don’t know if it was just me, but found it confusing. Spent most of the episode working out who was who, who was with who, and what was going on really. The awful fire, all the smoke and flames, I couldn’t tell who was trapped and who was doing the rescuing. Twist at the end of course.

suziewoozie Sat 18-Jan-20 19:35:07

So who do we think did it? I have absolutely no idea

Maggiemaybe Sun 19-Jan-20 12:29:44

Good, isn’t it? I’m wondering about Jess. What was that with her little stepson and the plaster? I wondered if she’d injected him with something. The children who died had been injected, hadn’t they?

There’s no way the funerals would have gone ahead at this early stage in the investigation, is there? Especially if they were cremated.

suziewoozie Sun 19-Jan-20 12:37:00

I thought that about the funerals/ cremation too Maggie and also those memorial posts. Jess is on my radar too

Thank goodness for this thread. I was so confused after episode 1 that I had to google the cast to see if I could work out the relationships between the characters . However, reading your comments I realise I have actually missed a lot of the plot as well. Armed with this new knowledge, I am looking forward to the next episode and I will give it my full attention. My bet goes on the wife doing it because of sleazy Tom’s behaviour. Did the policeman put the young drug addict up to telling the lie about who was in the woods with the child? Exciting stuff.

I am easily confused and my memory is defective now, so I always record at least 2 episodes of new serials because that gives me a better chance to understand. I also repeat the names of partners and their children, during the adverts to help me remember.
It is difficult for me to watch a two-hour programme like Vera or Endeavour so I use the same ploy to help me remember the beginning.

It wasn't Cystic Fibrosis Jane43, it was Cerebral Palsy.
Not that it makes one ounce of difference to my understanding so far.....

Greenfinch Sun 19-Jan-20 15:21:48

I think we are being made to think it was Jess. If you look at the looks she gives everyone it all seems too obvious to be correct. My bet is on someone who hasn't yet been introduced into the scenario.I think we will see a newcomer introduced next week.

grannyticktock Sun 19-Jan-20 16:00:22

Axxliz, you're not alone! I am guessing that you usually watch on your own, and it's harder to keep track when you don't have anyone to turn to in the advert break and say, "Hang on, who's the guy with the beard again?" Even when my husband was alive, we sometimes used to record the first episode of a drama and watch it twice, just to get all the characters and relationships sorted out in our heads. When it's just a single head, it's that much harder - you lose concentration for minute and suddenly the police are breaking down a door and you think "What??"

I think they should have special action subtitles for - well, I won't say the elderly, just those who can't always keep up. The subtitles could say things like "This is the woman we saw in the opening shot but she's wearing a different coat now" or "Two of those are her children but the youngest is her stepson", or perhaps even "Yes you saw right, the car rolled right over and we cannot explain why all the occupants and the car itself are undamaged."

Yehbutnobut Sun 19-Jan-20 16:46:30

Kate developed cerebral palsy as a result of the crash.

Yehbutnobut Sun 19-Jan-20 16:46:59

Or was that Charlotte?

Yehbutnobut Sun 19-Jan-20 16:47:18

Or someone else?

Yehbutnobut Sun 19-Jan-20 16:47:43

I’m not confused!

trisher Sun 19-Jan-20 16:53:12

Charlotte has Cerebral Palsy but I think from birth. I think the boy has some grudge against Tom. I think Kate may have done something while pregnant with Charlotte- and felt guilty about it. I think the headmaster is more involved than we know now.

EthelJ Sun 19-Jan-20 17:07:09

Charlotte was born with cerebral palsy as a result I guess of birth traum because several people have talked about Kate PND after Charlotte's difficult birth.
I think perhaps the little stepson has diabetes an dshe was injecting insulin but that's just a guess.
No idea who did it. I would have said Tom but thi k now the script writer is playing with us and maybe it's someone else altogether.

Curlywhirly Sun 19-Jan-20 17:32:24

Hmm, come to think of it, why show Jess giving her stepson an injection? There has to be some reason, unless it's a red herring to connect her to the injections given to those in the fire.

tanith Sun 19-Jan-20 17:42:22

Apparently the little girl who plays Charlotte does have Cerebral Palsy in real life and is called Lilac Jackson.
You could be right about Kate possibly taking drugs when pregnant.

suziewoozie Sun 19-Jan-20 23:03:58

I thought the dressing Jess was putting on the boy was for the burn he got from the bonfire. I didn’t see an injection being given - it was the burn patch been cleaned, hence ‘this will sting a bit’ You could see the red patch. It’s interesting that Charlotte is played by a little girl with cp- I did think that when I saw her on crutches briefly and I don’t think they’d have a non disabled child doing this.

DT is so creepy in this series. I have never really enjoyed programs with him in it and this role compounds everything about him i don't like, his scary expressions, the tone of his voice, those scary eyes, his skinny body, yes he really freaks me out!!!!

LullyDully Tue 21-Jan-20 08:18:15

I am getting there but think I could do with seeing it once more. Is the woman from Mum the police's ex wife and is Dylan related or just the local bad boy?

Calendargirl Tue 21-Jan-20 08:39:25

Didn’t twig she was the gormless girlfriend from Mum, but yes, she is the policeman’s ex wife. And yes, I think Dylan is the local bad boy, but who knows, he may turn out to be the long lost son of DT or some other random cast member, the headmaster maybe, or the policeman, or just anyone!
?

LullyDully Tue 21-Jan-20 16:25:38

Thanks calendargirl so she's the boy's mother. Got it.

Luckygirl Tue 21-Jan-20 16:37:45

I could not quite understand at the end of the last episode when Jess went to ferry Tom from somewhere to home - why was she doing that?

lemongrove Tue 21-Jan-20 16:46:43

jacq10 ???Thanks.

Just watched the first episode, due to Scottish accents and mumbling dialogue a lot of it was hard to actually hear, but apart from that and getting used to flashbacks, found it quite good.
Lucky and Kitty ? what do you see in Tennants looks?
A good actor though. The black hair and beard didn’t suit him, but because he’s in so many tv programmes it must be hard to get a different look every time. Are you watching Good Omens? ?Tennant is a very cool and funny demon.
Three more episodes to watch......but surely only Tom or his wife could have done the injections and set the fire/ padlocked the girls into one room etc.

Ilovecheese Tue 21-Jan-20 17:45:23

Lisa McGrillis has been:
Kelly from Mum (London accent)
Police officer in George Gently (North East accent)
Now police officer's ex wife in DeadwatercFell (Scottish accent)

Where next I wonder!

Resurgam123 Thu 23-Jan-20 08:47:18

What little I saw of this was in such dramatic darkness I could not really see what it was about.
It seems "Itsnotme" who also finds this so dark to watch.

Why do these writers have to work in such darkness.
