So who do we think did it? I have absolutely no idea

Deadwater Fell
(177 Posts)Was looking forward to this. Don’t know if it was just me, but found it confusing. Spent most of the episode working out who was who, who was with who, and what was going on really. The awful fire, all the smoke and flames, I couldn’t tell who was trapped and who was doing the rescuing. Twist at the end of course.
Wouldn’t want him as my GP.
I don’t think women have ‘flings’ with Tom - he manipulates them into having sex. A fling s something brief and fun - sex with Tom is yuk
I did mean Jess wandering around with his food.
seacliff I assume someone had damaged Kate’s memorial sign and flowers because they assume she lit the fire.
Although she was cremated not buried in the church yard. I also thought odd she was wandering around in Toms mothers house with a food tray, why would she?
I am really enjoying it, in spite of having to wait a whole week between episodes, I have been guilty of binge watching when available! I forgot some of last weeks and had to recap.
It seems Kate had a very basic cremation. The children were buried in the church, how sad they were split up from their Mum. And what was all that about the sign in the churchyard being defaced.
Tom is horrible, he was so nasty to his wife, no wonder she was depressed. But it almost seems too obvious that it was him, or Kate that did it. Maybe the lock was put on the door by Kate to protect the children from him?
I now have to wait a whole week.
I m afraid I find Tom very very creepy so you can keep him lucky
It’s certainly got us all talking though even if it is to ask each other for explanations ?
I was going to watch this tonight. I will make sure I am paying attention!!
Yes Curlywhirly she did have a fling with Tom, sounded just like his dalliance with Jess. I find him repulsive whether he is the killer or not. He and Kate seemed to have a very troubled relationship. All the characters seem to have hidden issues of one sort or another.
What about the friend from Uni? Did she have a fling with Tom? It wasn't clear what she was on about. Also, is there a hint that Kate wanted a relationship with Jess? So much of it is not clear - suppose that's the intention.
kittylester - you keep your hands off David Tennant - he's mine!
This is so like Broadchurch.
Clearly the style of this drama is to not be clear!
I am enjoying it but it took me hours to work out that Dylan had deliberately lied.
I was puzzled by Jess, at first I really liked her but finding out what she did put me off. I can't understand that betrayal.
And also her going to the Police to get Tom fitted up makes me suspect the dead wife more.
Why did she take Tom's food to him when his own mother cooked the food. Odd.
I think I will watch it twice next week to take in the details, I think I am missing bits......and that the Director has made it hard to follow to keep us all guessing.
I'm finding it more and more unlikely. Jess seems to be the one taking responsibility for Tom completely. Even serving him food when he was at his mums. His mum didn't attend Kate's funeral. Well you just would even if you hated her. You'd go for your son's sake. And his mum, him and Kate's parents would be in main car. Jess and partner would have to drive themselves. Some one from school and parents would turn up as well.
Still watching mind!
I think people shunned Kate’s funeral because it is the common feeling that she locked the Children in their room thus killing them. A group of women were gossiping about Kate after the children’s funeral saying ‘how could she?’ etc, one of them was Steve’s ex wife. After the children’s service the HeadMaster (yes he does also have a beard) said to Jess that Kate wasn’t even mentioned at her children’s funeral. Yes Kate and Jess worked together, possibly Kate the teacher and Jess the Teaching Assistant. The boy who gave evidence towards the end, Dylan? said something relating to one of the girls running in the woods, I won’t say what because some may not have seen the episode yet, but the closing scene showed something different. Is he lying? I am finding lots of things confusing but slowly piecing things together. In this episode it said that Charlotte, the youngest daughter, had Cystic Fybrosis. One scene showed Tom scrubbing his nails and cleaning his shoes and this was immediately followed by him taking new shoes out of a box for the funeral service, so was the nail cleaning and shoe cleaning at a different time and related to the children’s death rather than preparation for the funeral. I am enjoying it but it is very challenging.
Episode two seemed somewhat slower, but plenty of food for thought. Doctor Tom is rather creepy, did Kate have a separate funeral to her children? There hardly seemed anyone in the chapel, then they seemed to be carrying all the children in, was that the same place?
Is the other chap with the beard the headmaster, and did both Kate and Jess work at the school?
Don’t find any of the characters particularly likeable.
I think we ought to send this thread to the director so that he can see just how flipping complicated it is for us to understand what is going on. Still, at least we are stretching our brains!
Like BlueBelle I had to watch it twice to sort out who everybody was. The fashion for beards makes it extra difficult to differentiate between the Male characters, especially the man doing the forensics and David Tennant’s character.
I thought she was seen buying the lock, Treebee, not shoplifting it. I think right at the start there was a gloved hand going through a carrier bag with packaging in (from the lock?) and there was a receipt in there.
Though if she’s the murderer, I doubt it matters whether she was indulging in a bit of shoplifting (or not).
Also not at all over-invested!
This is what I think is the order of play - all go to beach for birthday party. Charlotte never walks independently. Row with MIL over perceived lack of care for Charlotte who fell over ( more vulnerable because of mobility problem). Kate etc go off in car ( Kate has been drinking) Car crashes. Then, not long after I think, there is the cycle race ( Charlotte seen in wheelchair) dance, fire. If as I think the beach, car crash and fire all happened very closely together in same summer, there would be no time for C to be seriously hurt in car crash and progress to state of art wheelchair in a few weeks. My guess is still she was born disabled ?birth trauma and that maybe there is a story behind that eg Kate blames herself or DT was bonking someone else and was late getting her to hospital and it’s his fault. No I am not over invested in this at all, how dare you.
Watched this yesterday and enjoyed it if that is the correct word to use when people are dead!!! Not a particuar fan of DT which left me undecided whether or not to watch, but after reading reviews on here i decided to give it a go. Intrigued to find out what happens.
flossie I thought that but it was pointed out to me by another poster that she arrived at the beach with crutches (I missed that) so the car accident was AFTER the beach scene so couldn’t have been that
Oh the puzzles eh
I think Charlotte was hurt in the accident. I think that was her in the wheelchair when they walk away after the Dance. Maybe that is why the Mum was depressed. I am going watch it again because it was a bit f muddle.
It said Locks and padlocks above the shelves where she was standing
I thought the unstable mother was seen on CCTV by the policeman shoplifting. I actually rewound that scene to check. Don’t know what though, was it the padlock?
I did sort of enjoy it and will watch next week. Love David Tennant especially when he speaks in his Scottish accent, but I don’t like his beard.
Tangerine it didn’t look much like sleeping to me ?
