Just watched the first episode ( I record and watch when I get the chance). Good story - lots of threads to it. However, right at the end when Vera arrests the adoptive father for murder, surely it was not that - it was manslaughter. At no time was there any intention by him to kill his son, it was accidental, and any good lawyer could also call it self-defence, as the lad had attacked him and he was just responding to that attack when the lad was killed.

Yes Bbevan it’s definitely a well designed greens bluey set, including Veras outfits.

Prinawn dda, by the way ?

Ooooo I’ll look for that BBbevan! Is it so her brown Macintosh stand out do you think??

BBbevan Tue 28-Jan-20 20:22:34

Has anyone noticed the amount of turquoise paint, walls, chairs etc in ‘Vera’

I love Vera too but I just wish they would say Ma’am as in jam not Ma’am as in smarm.

Ohmother Mon 27-Jan-20 08:42:20

I love it that the computer, the forensics and the telephone come up very quickly with much of the research answers so she doesn’t have to waste time doing too much investigating and boring us to death. On some programmes they make it into a six part series.

Doesn't look like the 1960s with mobiles, computers etc.

She is so subtle in her questioning. I enjoy the character of Jack(sp??) she is so professional and on the ball. Sad story beautifully acted.

SparklyGrandma Mon 27-Jan-20 08:21:51

I have a rain hat similar to Vera’s, and when I still worked I spoke straight and directly as she does.

I love the series and her macs/coats.

It’s so well done, she’s a brilliant actress, and all her team are so well cast, I loved Joe, but like Aiden equally as much now.

The settings are wonderful, that bleakness mixed with beautiful landscapes, can’t wait for the next series.

Have not watched last night’s episode yet. Also never read any of the books, but when Vera was first on tv, she looked like a bag lady. Sounds like they have smartened her character up from how the books portrayed her.

I love Vera, this series is not set on the 1960's. I really enjoyed tonights episode. I have actually seen people dressed like Vera, they were eccentric.

I look forward to the escapism of this programme on Sunday night .

hollysteers Sun 26-Jan-20 22:30:35

Oh, I see it’s set in the 1960s, still hate the look of it.

hollysteers Sun 26-Jan-20 22:26:57

I cringe every time I see Vera in my listings in that stupid hat. Can’t bring myself to watch it. Who, nowadays, goes around looking like Vera, whatever their age? It just looks so miserable. I’m not suggesting the plots might not be good, but last night I watched Poirot, which I love, so stylish and interesting, with a fabulous soundtrack.
Life can be grim enough without tuning into Vera and the very name sums it up.

Really enjoyed tonights episode, first class drama,

Charleygirl5 Sun 26-Jan-20 22:18:39

I thoroughly enjoyed tonight's episode. Such a pity there are only 4 in total.

Happygirl79 Sun 26-Jan-20 22:12:12

I love the Vera character . She is so sensitive to others which makes her such a great detective but headstrong and straight as a dye.
The actress Brenda is in great nick ( pardon the pun) for 74
The plots are lively and easy to follow.
I am from the North East of England so the area of the sets are familiar
Never disappoints
Roll on next episode

Just love Vera

annsixty Sun 26-Jan-20 20:00:54

Me also Gfplux
I have really enjoyed the first two and am sad this is the last in the series.

Sitting waiting for Vera to start tonight. Love her and everything about this series.
Just started listening to the books.

I haven't seen the new episode yet.
But when you read the books the author makes such a huge point of describing Vera as plain, overweight woman with no dress sense at all.
She is already pretty in the TV series so I hope that they don't smarten her up too much.

Nortsat46 Tue 14-Jan-20 19:26:17

BB I agree, I think it’s her old coat.
I love the programme but her shabby scarves get on my nerves ...

BBbevan Tue 14-Jan-20 18:52:35

No , I think she went back to her comfy old coat Cherrytree

Harris27 Tue 14-Jan-20 18:36:32

I love it and can spot different place s in Newcastle and surrounding areas where I live. Never disappoints.

Cherrytree59 Tue 14-Jan-20 18:32:57

Final episode of previous series,
Vera spies a coat in shop window.
She pops into the shop and buys the coat.

It would seem that the new coat is virtually the same colour and style of the coat she usually wears to work.smile
