So... wink

I will never forget:-
Jo Jo Rabbit
Hubby and I went to the movies last year to watch "Jo Jo Rabbit" - As it ended we all stood and began dancing, and snapping our fingers (you have to see the movie to understand) not a dry eye in the house.

Wish I could forget "Erasurehead"

Totally agree on the Scent of a Woman, brilliant and heart warming film. Deer Hunter is one of my old favorotires that I watch occasionally. But the film I remember going to see back in the 70's, the second X rated movie I ever saw was A Clockwork Orange. (My first was The Good the Bad and the Ugly) and I would never watch it again, but it still haunts me occasionally.

I've still never seen The Exorcist. It was shown in my mess tent while I was serving in Germany back in the 1970's. We were on maneuvers and at least once every exercise we would get to watch a movie that was current. I was on roving patrol that night, so only heard snatches of the film coming from the mess tent and it put me off watching it Every time I see it is on TV, I record it then delete it without watching it. i've seen snatches of it when its being advertised, but the scenes and stories told to me by friends who have watched it always put me off watching it

I’ll never forget Empire of the Sun as well. Hated the Favourite though.
And for some reason the ONLY film which reduces me to tears is Stephen Spielberg’s AI. I feel so sorry for the robotic boy who just longs to be human with a mummy and daddy.

If you haven't seen 'Strangers when we Meet', and enjoy a real tear jerker, you will love this. It stars Kirk Douglas and Kim Novak. One of my favourite movies.

Film I never want to see again 'Reservoir Dogs', too violent for me.

Oklahoma

I love psycho. Fabulous film.
I love Four Lions, cheers me up every time I watch it.
Tyranasaur was amazing.
Devils Double too.

I'm not keen on romcoms.

Like Oopsminty I saw A Night to Remember as a child with my Dad. It affected me very much for years after, and yes, peaked my interest too. I’ve never been able to bring myself to watch the remake to this day.
My favourite film? ‘A Bridge Too Far’. Brilliant casting, action, humour, pathos and Michael Caine! What’s not to like!

I will never forget "The Tingler" (I know, never heard of it). Late '50s. A creature that clings to your spine when you are really scared, but drops off if you scream. Daft plot, supposedly scary. BUT, some of the seats were wired up to vibrate at appropriate intervals when the victim is so attacked, Not exactly an electric shock, but certainly alarming. Guess whose seat was the first one to go off. And me on a first date!

Love watching Donnie Darko, Silent Running and Edward Scissorhands. Also remember watching a Romanian version of Alice in Wonderland on BBC 2 many years ago which impressed greatly.

Sophie's Choice. Could not get over the harrowing scene when she swapped one child for another with a member of the Gestapo. Nightmare!

I can't single out just one film as a favourite there are so many over the years - from way back in the 50's when I was taken to see Whistle Down the Wind to all the ones I've recently watched on Netflix. There was one horror film which made an impression (although I can't remember the name) for all the wrong reasons - it was about zombie cows and was so bad it was hilarious and had my (then) teenage son and I rolling round in hysterics. Happy memory! grin

Witzend The first Christopher Lee Dracula was one I wished I’d never seen! I was only about 14 at the time - it scared the pants off me.
I saw 'Dracula Prince of Darkness' at 16 and loved it! We bought ourselves fangs and dressed as vampires for parties. ?‍♀️ We even wrote stories and made a plan of the castle. ? So I suppose you could say that film influenced me. I loved all the Hammer Horror films, but it was 'The Exorcist' that finished me. ? Went right off horror films after that.

My all time favourite film has got to be Dr Zhivago I’ve seen it many times but I will never tire of it or fail to be moved by it.
Other favourites: Notting Hill, Brooklyn, Field of Dreams, Out of Africa, The Graduate and Dumbo ( the original version) There’s probably more which I’ll remember later.

I seem to have forgotten the ones that I would rather forget!

Wish I’d never seen The Exorcist or Soldier Blue. Could watch Pride and Prejudice (any of 3 versions) again and again and also Pretty Woman, if only to see the snail part and the shopping scene and Simply Irresistible. There are others but those came straight to mind.

When I was little I loved The Inn of the Sixth Happiness . Then as a teenager I enjoyed WestSide Story but was terrified by Dracula Prince of Darkness and Plague of the Zombies. Didn't sleep go weeks as I as I was sure Dracula could come in my house, and I didn't have garlic then either.

I too loved the French film Untouchable.
Florence Foster Jenkins, another true and funny story with Meryl Streep and Hugh Grant at his best.
Four Weddings
So many others.
Most hated
The Favourite, can't bear Olivia whats her name after watching it. She just played Queen Anne as a foul mouthed oversexed toddler! Yes, I know.
Any dark Scandi films, too depressing.

I am looking forward to the latest version of Emma though.

A horror film called hush hush sweet Charlotte with Bette Davis. I’ve never met anyone that remembers it, it terrified me for years and la Dolce Vita at an arty cinema quite recently where I almost lost the will to live. Still love ET

BettyBoop49 Fri 14-Feb-20 14:14:21

Just seen Parasite. Amazing film. Such a great story and full of live, anger, humiliation, pride, arrogance, adoration. You name it and it’s in this film.
Wonderful

Another film that left an impression on me was Cathy come Home early 70s I think very disturbing but raised A social consciousness

and I cried for weeks over-that silly film * The day of the dolphin * 1973 were the dolphins talked and the final scene were the dolphin Alpha is pitifully sounding “Fa loves Pa”
Still can’t watch it to this day ?

Cannot bear The English Patient - frightful bore. Or Love Actually - really nausea inducing. Love Gone with the Wind - the scene where the casualties are being read out but the teenage soldier whose brother has been killed is still playing his flute with tears running down his face always makes me weep. As does the end of West Side Story.

Kim19 Fri 14-Feb-20 13:55:42

I remember Mandy. Think Jack Hawkins and Phyllis Calvert were the parents. My favourites ever 'Roman holiday', 'Young at heart' and the Petula Clark 'Goodbye Mr Chips'. Seem to have successfully forgotten the turkeys.

mrscake1 Fri 14-Feb-20 13:48:52

Rhubarb the movie which was a virtually silent comedy in which the only word spoken is "Rhubarb". It is the worst film I have ever seen but I still remember it because it was so bad!

Sandybeth Fri 14-Feb-20 13:48:45

I remember Empire of the Sun and The Killing Fields as having a real impact on me, and also The Mission with Jeremy Irons and Field of Dreams. My all time favourite film is Beaches with Bette Midler. The worst film I have seen lately and was a waste of my life was The Favourite, I thought it was plain stupid!

whywhywhy Fri 14-Feb-20 13:46:31

I love the film Get Carter as it was filmed near to where my Aunt Mary used to live in Newcastle upon Tyne and they saw most of the actors. I also love The Full Monty as it has good memories for me going to the cinema with friends who have now moved away from this area.
I cannot watch White Christmas as I cry just listening to the music as it takes me back to my youth and the memories coming flooding back of mam and dad. Sadly both gone.

Kartush Fri 14-Feb-20 13:41:05

I love, The Big Easy, Dog Soldiers, all of the lord of the rings movies, all of the Alien movies, all of the Underworld movies.
The list of ones that I wish I had never seen is way way way too long

ann678tifney Fri 14-Feb-20 13:30:39

My favourite films as a child and will still watch them now, are Mary Poppins and the Sound of Music, but I was brought up with Doris Day films, as my mum loved her in anything musical, but her favourite film was Seven Brides for Seven Brothers. She was also a bid bond film fan, so I quite often will watch one when I am thinking about her. I don't like horror films, so don't watch many although I remember Rosemary's Baby and the Chucky films. I remember Love Story, as my husband took me to watch on our first date, and I found out quite quickly that he didn't do watching films - falls asleep lol so we don't go very often.
