I enjoyed it too. Interesting to see the characters a few years older and the two little girls are delightful and such talented actors.

Just seen this, soon remembered all the different characters and their back stories. So enjoyable to watch. Brightened up my day,.

I have just watched this on catch up. It may just me, but I found it boring. I have loved the other series so far. So sad that she has turned out such an old grouch. I suppose that it may get going but I won't be in a rush to catch up in future.?

Callistemon Wed 26-Feb-20 17:36:44

I thought the little girl was very rude when they were travelling in the car, rather than charmingly cheeky.
Brat.

Oopsadaisy3 Wed 26-Feb-20 19:01:03

Callistemon I thought that it was heavy handed, the farming, poorer family have a cheeky/ rude child and the head teacher has a well behaved one.

Hmmmm.

Callistemon Wed 26-Feb-20 19:06:07

Yes, you're right, I didn't actually think about that
Although actually, the father of the rude child is a teacher too, isn't he?

Whoever wrote it may have thought it was cute but it wasn't.

Oopsadaisy3 Wed 26-Feb-20 19:09:36

I didn’t actually watch the first 10 mins so I don’t know what the childs father does, I’ll find out next week! Or maybe I’ll google it.

Iam64 Wed 26-Feb-20 19:39:48

I suspect Sally Wainwright didn't think she was writing a "cute" little girl, more one who reflects many little girls in that valley
full of character and over exposed to adult talk, so a bit precocious

It's not floating my boat unfortunately. Loved the previous ones. It feels a bit wrung out.

The cheeky girl was Calamity. Gillian’s son is now a teacher, ( if I have this right) married to a pretty but dim girl who gave the baby the ridiculous name.
Why did the director give Calamity not only a real ‘mouth’ but also a broader accent than her parents?I think it was so that it underlined the difference between her and Caroline’s child, as another poster has already said.
Alan is starting to grate on me now tbh with his never having his own view and being so hen pecked.

Calendargirl Sun 01-Mar-20 22:07:19

I think Calamity is just a nickname, didn’t they introduce her to Ted or someone else tonight as Emma/Emily?

Callistemon Sun 01-Mar-20 22:08:09

I don't think her real name is Calamity, I think she is Emily.

My DM called me Calamity (for obvious reasons).

SueDonim Sun 01-Mar-20 22:28:24

It didn’t do much for me this evening, although Ted could liven things up. Too many storylines, I think, and it ended up bitty.

I think the wee girl is called Emily.

Couldn’t help feeling a bit sorry for Caroline with her error of judgement!

BlueBelle Sun 01-Mar-20 22:40:21

Oh I loved it again I think the two little girls were great I like most of the characters except those two lads with the webcam

kircubbin2000 Mon 02-Mar-20 07:31:46

Celia referred to a child as Ruby. Which one is she?

Maggiemaybe Mon 02-Mar-20 08:02:49

Is Ruby the dog’s name?

Maggiemaybe Mon 02-Mar-20 08:03:40

I think the child actors are excellent - very natural.

Urmstongran Mon 02-Mar-20 08:24:21

Celia wasn’t quite as acerbic last night! Okay she didn’t really want to put those 2 NZ nurse backpackers up on the spur of the moment (who would in real life!) but she warmed to them for being kind to Alan’s brother. At last - some charm - otherwise you’d have to wonder what gentle Alan saw in her!

I'm not sure about the reaction of the English teacher when she found out Caroline was gay. Seemed over the top to me, is there a hidden agenda here ?

Alishka Mon 02-Mar-20 08:58:45

@Urmstongran - who would put up backpackers (etc) on the spur of the moment? My husband and I, is who!grin And in 14 years of living at the seaside outside Rome at Ostia Lido, we quite frequently did, including the couple whose car had broken down on the Autostrada del Sole and were stranded.Brought them home, arranged for our garage to repair their car while they stayed with us and then, when we learned that they were on their honeymoon, gave them our double bedgrin
I loved the portrayal of the two little girls Didn't understand the reaction of the English teacher, OTT, I agree.
I'm enjoying this.

Callistemon Mon 02-Mar-20 09:45:29

sodapop I thought her reaction was strange too, especially for a 30 something.
It seemed odd that Caroline assumed that her colleague may be gay and a potential new partner just because her husband was sleeping in the spare room too.

Perhaps the colleague was protesting too much?
And the remark about the age difference was just funny as they both looked about the same age!

Luckygirl Mon 02-Mar-20 09:49:16

The thread about the giraffe mural is just plain silly - I am disappointed in this series.

Callistemon Mon 02-Mar-20 09:55:52

Sometimes you wonder with some returning series if they have run out of ideas and perhaps should have left on a high note.

Callistemon Mon 02-Mar-20 09:56:33

I did like Kate, I don't want a replacement for her!
