I’ve just googled the Who do you think you are episode with Anne Reid as lots of you seem to feel quite enraged by her behaviour on it. It’s now not available but pages and pages of posts by people describing her weird, odd, annoying, incomprehensible reaction to her ancestor’s wrongdoings all say the same thing. It seems she is not the nice lovable woman I always thought she was and maybe she doesn’t have to act too much now to portray the selfish, nasty bombastic bully that Celia is displaying now? What a disappointment and disillusionment.

I'm not sure Ann Reid needs to do much acting for her part as Celia

That made me giggle gillybob!

I used to live in the area where it was filmed and I can tell you it was flipping bleak in winter.

The car is looking remarkably well - wonder if it's the same one..hmm. I think it looks slightly darker than the one in the older series.

Maybe traded in for a younger model? smile

Very snazzy
I like red!

..and furthermore, that Lexus would cost a fortune to run.

Nice though. envy

I don't know that area, it looks lovely but I think I'll stay where I am, with my Gillian-style kitchen!

oldgimmer1 Sat 07-Mar-20 22:21:54

Yes, they seem to spend a lot of time in that farmhouse. It must be freezing.

Am I right in thinking they're now closer to Halifax ? Is it Ripponden or Sowerby Bridge or somewhere like that?

Harrogate though- that has to be 40 miles from Halifax? I don't get why Celia and Alan would have driven to Gillian's so often just to sit around in a freezing farmhouse.

It's reminding me of Happy Valley. Same haunts. I want to live up North now...

Callistemon Sat 07-Mar-20 22:16:40

Yes, probably more money than sense.
Especially at 80+
Does she do much cooking? They always seem to be at Gillian's.

oldgimmer1 Sat 07-Mar-20 21:58:24

It's in good nick though. A coat of paint would sort it out. It's a timeless design.

Callistemon Sat 07-Mar-20 20:28:30

Celia's kitchen is very dark.

She could sell it/give it away but it would drive me crackers too!

oldgimmer1 Sat 07-Mar-20 20:21:24

Her style has changed, hasn't it? She going in for those wrappy scarves and thin-knit jumpers more. I like the bobbed hair.

Wasn't the bungalow the one they fancied in a previous series? Loving the views from the conservatory...envy.

And, no, Celia - you do not need a new kitchen..

I study what Sarah Lancashire’s character is wearing as I think they dress a larger lady very cleverly and I like to look for ideas!

Still catching up and on S4 (I think).

Lu Corfield was in Doctors a while back. The actress lost loads of weight and returned to Doctors as the character's thin twin sister.

witzend awful house, sad thing is that that it’s probably a real house and not a stage set. Not my idea of a home, but then I’m not a best selling Author!

Tried the Qrisk - mine is 25% risk in next 10 years. But it also went down if I pretended to be heavier than I really am! Also it shot down to 13% if I unticked the atrial fibrillation.

If I pretended to be a man it shot up to 33% - so there is some benefit to being a woman it would seem.

Witzend Fri 06-Mar-20 09:20:33

I hope I’m not the only one who thinks Judith’s house is ghastly!

Callistemon Thu 05-Mar-20 19:47:16

One of the consultants at Swindon Hospital was prescribing a glass of red wine each evening for his cardiac and stroke patients, I think.

I don't know if he's still working there.

I do remember Ann Reid’s displeasure at winning her Gransnet award. She was quite a grumpy knickers about it?
Doesn’t stop me enjoying the series though.

I do wish something good could be in the cards for NW’s character . She really needs cheering up.

Greeneyedgirl Thu 05-Mar-20 14:02:53

I agree janea. Most relevant thing on the chart seems to be blood pressure, and when I added a few kilos to my weight my risk dropped. As I mentioned up thread, CVD risk is multi factorial, and doctors would take other factors into consideration I would assume.

gillybob, I agree, she seemed exactly the same on WDYTYA!

gillybob Thu 05-Mar-20 13:53:40

I'm not sure Ann Reid needs to do much acting for her part as Celia.

janeainsworth Thu 05-Mar-20 13:38:12

Win-win Callistemongrin

I was a bit puzzled by the Qrisk calculator which is what doctors use to decide amongst other things, whether or not to suggest taking statins.

There are no questions about diet, alcohol consumption or the amount of exercise you take, so presumably I can carry on with my wine-drinking, eat what I like and slouch around at home instead of going to fitness classes etc and my risk of cardiovascular disease in the next 10 years remains the same hmmconfused

Jane10 Thu 05-Mar-20 12:52:34

Having spent a week binge watching 5 series I'm really missing the characters now I've caught up with it all. I think Celia is brilliantly written and acted. Her general awkwardness and tendency to back herself into corners yet remain endearing is sooo good. I'm not a fan of Ann Reid after some interviews but hats off to her. Sally Wainwright has created a dream character for any actress to play.

Greeneyedgirl Thu 05-Mar-20 12:03:03

Kalu ?

Kalu Thu 05-Mar-20 11:28:44

OK Greeneyedgirl Pax? We shall look forward to enjoying the programme.
