Seeing as we're all staying in a little lot more, we'd imagine the telly is getting a fair amount of attention. If you want to chat about whatever you're watching while it's on (or the next day) please do check our Telly forum topic and join in if there's already a conversation running. If not, why not start one? There's almost certainly someone else on here who's watching alongside you and would love the opportunity to dissect the plot/suggest whodunnit/debate actor's suitability to role/just want to say they love or hate it. grin

You know, I thought I had subtitles on my catchup; I need to check. I always have subtitles on dvd's that I watch.

Labaik Sat 28-Mar-20 15:13:28

..just checked; yes, I do have subtitles on catchup [BBC that is]. Not sure how though.

Littleannie Sat 28-Mar-20 15:20:38

Labaik
They must have started doing it then. There weren't any last time I looked. Thanks for that.

Labaik Sat 28-Mar-20 15:29:53

Maybe it's not available for all programmes? I watched the documentary about Hilary Mantel and that had them. I once ended up with audio description for ages because I didn't know how to turn it off [as I didn't know how I'd turned it on in the first place!]. That was a real pain!

Eloethan Sat 28-Mar-20 16:39:31

Can it still be accessed Labaik?

EllanVannin Sat 28-Mar-20 17:39:14

2nd part on Ch5 of a celebrity murder/mystery, 9pm, daft but it's a light relief.

Anniebach Sat 28-Mar-20 17:43:27

Will try to get Poldark 1975/76 uTube on my television, watched two episodes of the remake, didn’t like the 2nd
Demelza.

DH watching Dad's army, will be watching Portillo at 8, don't know what later on.

Daddima Sat 28-Mar-20 20:54:07

Thank you Littleannie, I’ll do just that!

Luckylegs Sat 28-Mar-20 21:16:18

Thank you very much Littleannie, I’ll email them.

Callistemon Sat 28-Mar-20 21:17:00

Portillo was wearing a drab raincoat and hat! shock

I've just caught up on the BBC Step Back in Time with the shopkeepers and quite enjoyed seeing how much the corner shop has changed its role in the community over the decades. I watch very little tv but really quite enjoyed that series. One more to go I think.

Labaik Sun 29-Mar-20 00:02:55

And strange to think how the corner shop is playing such a vital tole now. Our village shop is a lifeline to many at the moment.

Chewbacca Sun 29-Mar-20 00:06:10

Full circle isn't it Labaik? I was quite chuffed that I could still convert the old £ad into "new money" although it seems so strange now to think of having 240d to £1.00!

Chewbacca Sun 29-Mar-20 00:06:40

£sd not £ad.

oldgimmer1 Sun 29-Mar-20 09:30:13

I'm hoping we'll see a trend back towards more local shopping facilities. I'm very fortunate living where I do that I have two "corner" Co-ops in addition to bigger supermarkets.

I don't think the traditional family - owned corner shop will make a return though any time soon.

Chewbacca Sun 29-Mar-20 09:40:27

But the current situation means that the old fashioned, independent corner shop is having a resurgence oldgimmer. Usually pretty well stocked, knows their customer base and within easy walking distance for people to call in and pick up essentials in between their "infrequent supermarket" visits. I think that this may be the time that they come into their own again. Hope so! Sad to see closed shops.

oldgimmer1 Sun 29-Mar-20 11:35:40

I don't know about your locality, chew but in mine all the independent corner shops have either been rebranded as Sainsbury's or Co-ops or turned into estate agencies.

Some independents have managed to survive if they have a particular USP - organic, artisan/craft etc - but in general - no. Sadly.

Daddima Sun 29-Mar-20 17:15:40

Oh, Littleannie, I have a feeling I’ll need more than a month! You are right, there are loads of good things on it, so I think I’ll be keeping it for a wee while!
Thanks for the recommendation.

Anybody watching The Nest ?
I can’t comment on most of the things you’re talking about as I just have free view I don’t have Netflix Britbox (whatever that is presume it’s the same kind of thing) or anything to record on so it’s just the plain old TV for me and it’s pretty dire most of the time in my opinion

I started that celebrity Murder thing and thought it was one of the worst things ever I couldn’t manage more than 10 minutes perhaps it got better but I thought it was cringeworthy
I m enjoying Race the World but most of the real life shows are so predicable they follow the same lines so you could write the script for them I watch judge Judy she makes me laugh
I m bored stiff with celebrities
Well that was a good old moan wasn’t it

NotAGran55 Mon 30-Mar-20 07:47:36

Last night I watched Race Across The World ?. I absolutely loved the first series, quite enjoying this one but not as much .
I’m hoping the couple from my localish town of Reading win .

Thanks for the heads up Eloethan on the Ready Steady Go show .

BlueBelle Mon 30-Mar-20 07:49:44

I would like the two lads to win the uncle and nephew which are the couple from Reading ? Is it the man with the hearing problem I find her a bit annoying

TerriBull Mon 30-Mar-20 09:20:27

Watched Race Across the World, didn't see the first series, but attracted to this one because it features central and south America and I have been lucky enough to go to some of the countries the couples are travelling through.. Have always been madly interested in that part of the world.

Then we watched the Julian Fellows Belgravia thing at 9.

Eloethan Mon 30-Mar-20 11:38:56

Bluebelle I watched last week's The Nest and thought it OK but a bit slow. I was in two minds as to whether to watch it again.

However, I thought last night's episode was very good - several story threads (albeit slightly unlikely, as are most dramas these days).

Notagran55 I hope you enjoy/enjoyed it. A little slice of pop history. I wonder why Cathy McGowan wasn't interviewed.

Anniebach Mon 30-Mar-20 21:42:08

BlueBell. BritBox is not like Netflix, the programmes are from the BBC, ITV, and either C4 or C5, which ever, the other
is going to join with the three.

I have watched, Lark Rise to Candleford, Downton Abbey,
Doc.Martin from series 1 on to the last one shown. Many crime series too
