Too much CV19 on T.V.

Evening all, sending good, healthy wishes.

Trivial I know, but the disruption of tonight's tv programmes seem a bit ott.

Surely the news bulletins on tv or radio will tell us what we need to know? And what about the old fashioned"newsflash" for anything "new"?

Can we not be allowed to watch "ordinary" programmes, such as "Location Location, Location" as a bit of light relief?

I'm quite capable of getting the info needed from the standard news, whether on tv or radio, and would actually rather appreciate a break from it!

Perhaps only me that feels like this?

Calendargirl Wed 18-Mar-20 20:15:27

Is Location not on then?

Whitewavemark2 Wed 18-Mar-20 20:16:50

I think you are right. Last year it was brexit, this year covid19 - it is never ending.

Time for lots of light relief and happiness like they had during the war. Not rubbish but good stuff.

Calendargirl Wed 18-Mar-20 20:22:21

Don’t think they had telly in the war, well not the hoi poloi anyway.
Wireless, card games, knitting, reading......

Whitewavemark2 Wed 18-Mar-20 20:28:08

No sorry I meant all those films Fred Astaire etc. ITMA etc.

phoenix Wed 18-Mar-20 20:30:13

Glad that you agree Whitewave and I agree with your point 're light relief! (Acouple of the regular Radio 4 programmes are trying to do this)

Calendargirl according to the Radio Times, yes, but looking at the schedule shown in the actual T.V., no.

I do agree, in fact all we need to see really is the daily bulletin
To see if anything has changed.
It’s manna from Heaven for the media though, just as Brexit was last year ( and the previous two years!)
Watching rolling news is always a depressing experience and doesn’t do the psyche any good at all.
We will be watching Sky box sets and all our dvds.

paddyanne Wed 18-Mar-20 21:26:46

there should be 3 newscasts a day for people who have to be out at different times,I understand that a lot of people aren't absorbing the information and that it needs to be reinforced but I think theres a danger in too much of the same.IF theres new information a newsflash as someone up thread says would suffice.Apart from anything else my sleep is disrupted if I hear too much bad news late in the day ,I'm worried about this, and lack of sleep just amplifies my worry.

Charleygirl5 Wed 18-Mar-20 21:47:30

Come back Brexit, all is forgiven.

sodapop Wed 18-Mar-20 22:14:08

Far too much concentration on this particularly by the BBC. People are either fed up with the constant barrage or they are being made anxious and stressed by it.

phoenix Wed 18-Mar-20 22:34:34

Phew! I'm not the only one then!

Callistemon Wed 18-Mar-20 23:23:41

DH and I drove through rain and puddles today and the ground is still sodden.

We remarked that there is not a word about the floods, about the people still out of their homes, about areas recovering.

Callistemon Wed 18-Mar-20 23:25:21

DB was annoyed because Escape to the Country was not on but we escaped to the country today (well, just up the road!) and it was very wet indeed.

Callistemon Wed 18-Mar-20 23:25:41

DH not DB

I don't even think about the normal schedule now. Remember when during the Falklands war when we began having daily announcements? It was something we weren't used to.

I want to be informed.

merlotgran Thu 19-Mar-20 00:11:31

Sorry about double whens.

grumppa Thu 19-Mar-20 00:16:40

Quite right, Phoenix. Total news overload, not least because there are too many 24 hour news channels. And even when we have neither Brexit nor viruses, why does virtually every radio station have to break off for news on the hour?

BlueBelle Thu 19-Mar-20 04:15:04

It is driving me mad (if I wasn’t already), I can no longer watch much mainstream tv I can’t listen to the radio it’s such overload that it’s scaring me and I don’t scare easily it’s like a woodpecker pecking away at a piece of wood (my head)
Not being funny but even trying to avoid it on GN is like stepping through a path of doggies’ doo do I don’t mean this thread phoenix

Anniebach Thu 19-Mar-20 08:32:25

SKY news filmed new mortuaries being built .

sodapop Thu 19-Mar-20 08:40:56

That is really morbid Annie

Calendargirl Thu 19-Mar-20 10:29:39

Yes Callistemon I thought about flooded people when all this started getting serious. Don’t imagine they can always wash their hands easily or pop down to the shops to stock up.

Jane43 Thu 19-Mar-20 10:33:27

There are too many features with shots of empty shelves in supermarkets and people waiting outside for supermarkets to open. It must make some people go into panic mode and rush out to buy whatever they can lay their hands on. DS says it is madness in Morrisons, despite huge areas of the store being stripped of stock by customers, more are coming in and just grabbing anything in sight. It’s time to bring in some serious rationing, not four items of any one thing as in Aldi. I saw a woman in Aldi two days ago with her trolley piled high, she had kept to the four item rule but had four of the biggest milk containers, four huge packets of crisps, four multi packs of baked beans etc. Another young woman ahead of me at the checkout filled the whole conveyer belt with shopping. She was so intent on piling everything on she didn’t have the civility to let a young girl behind her with one item which was obviously her lunch go ahead of her, something we always do. The woman’s bill was over £140 and you can get a lot of shopping for that in Aldi. It’s time to bring in measures to stop this madness.

ALL news about the Coronavirus is overwhelming and relentless. Every newspaper, tv programme, news bulletins, the internet, is full of it. It's depressing, and some of it is over the top. I'm sick to bloody death of hearing about it. Millions of people (me included) are still going to work, going in shops, etc.

Franbern Fri 20-Mar-20 17:52:23

I am glad that I am not the only one who is totally fed up with the constant and repetitive items on CV on TV. I am also totally convinced that the shot of empty shelves and people queuing is very much fuelling the panic buying.
Really do want to see some sense in all of this. Yes, we need updated information on government action, etc. - but that takes place in the 5 pm news conference - so why do we need the preceding hour before that and hour afterwards?
What is needed, as has been said, is some good light entertainment - films, comedy programmes, perhaps running current soaps from when they started, even bring back repeats of Soaps that have disappeared. So many of us are stuck in our own homes and tv should be our main form of entertainment - at present it is the main form of stressing us.

eazybee Fri 20-Mar-20 18:51:20

Yes,I so agree; there is far too much repetitive coverage of coronavirus, far too much supposition, and and too much negativity. A little positive propaganda would be sensible, and some light, cheerful, purposeful entertainment.
