Godfather 1 and 2 Barry Lyndon A not very well known Stanley Kubrick film, adapted from a lesser known book by William Makepeace Thackery The English Patient Ryan's Daughter Doctor Zhivago Franco Zeffirelli's "Romeo and Juliet" takes me back to my school days Saturday Night Fever (when I first saw it) Strictly Ballroom Gone With The Wind dare I say it even…... The Sound of Music, I loved it when I first saw it aged about 11 The French films Jean de Florette and it's sequel Manon de Sources Lately" The Irishman", Martin Scorsese at his best but also really liked "The Gangs of New York" when it came out.
Field of Dreams, Kevin Costner, Amy Madigan and Ray Liotta. "If you build it, he will come". It has everything, makes you laugh and weep in equal measures.
Pirates of the Caribbean (Curse of the Black Pearl), just because Jonny Depp is so funny and I also love Claus Badelt's music.
Bridges of Madison County for me too Coolgran65. I loved the book more. Read it in a weekend and I was totally enthralled. A while ago now though when I still had hormones rampaging through me ?
Hate to rain on your parade, but it wasn’t Diane Keaton in Bridges of MC, it was Meryl Streep. I thought she was miscast, Francesca in the book didn’t look like her, much prettier and not so frumpy. And Clint, gorgeous as he is, was a bit old for the part. But seeing as it was his production, he directed it I imagine, well, if you want to bag the starring role.....
I enjoyed the film and the book, in spite of my gripes!
Snatch (a Guy Ritchie film, starring Brad Pitt) Stella Dallas (Barbara Stanwyk, an old black and white film) One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest Casino Goodfellas Big (Tom Hanks) The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas Schindler's List Ghost Hang 'em High
One of my most favourite films is The Railway Children. I have lost count of how many times i have watched this film, just love it. Also really enjoy Goodnight Mr Tom, plus Scrooge and the Bishops Wife at Christmas.
One movie? It would have to be Far From the Madding Crowd. Romance in the sweeping Dorset countryside. Alan Bates as trusty, honest, reliable Gabriel Oak Terence Stamp as twinkling, dashing, handsome Sgt Troy. I could watch it over and over.
I have so many but Some Like It Hot is near the top. I also like Night of the Hunter, the only film directed by Charles Laughton, Gone With the Wind, Get Carter, The Long Good Friday, Mona Lisa, East is East, and many more.
When Saturday Comes because I love Sean Bean and Sheffield United Top Gun because many moons ago I met a US sailor on holiday and had took me for a tour on his ship- the aircraft carrier that Top Gun was filmed on. My one and only claim to fame!!
I love the Mama Mia films, I went to the restaurant live experience and loved it! Other films, Pretty Woman, Steel Magnolias, Ghost and Cocktail. I see most of the other grans have much better taste than me
One? Too many to pick one. Blade Runner ( the original not the second one ) Withnail and I Annie Hall Trainspotting The Pelican Brief The Manchurian Candidate Shawshank Redemption Logan's Run Pulp Fiction Erin Brokovich LA Confidential
So many of my favourites have already been mentioned so I will just add 2 more that have not already been mentioned. In the Heat of the Night starring Sidney Poitier and Rod Steiger and on a lighter note The Court Jester starring Danny Kaye, Glynis Johns and Angela Lansbury. Anyone remember the Vessel with the Pestle, the Chalice from the Palace And the Flagon with the Dragon?
