How are we going to cope without The Archers?

Maybe it’s the lockdown but The Archers has become very important to me! The news that we’ll be ‘treated’ to re-runs of past storylines for the next three weeks or so is very bad news indeed, particularly as the inevitable disaster of the Philip/Kirsty nuptials has yet to unfold.
Except there won’t be any nuptials, will there?!
I think I know Philip’s true (evil, obviously) character will be revealed - as it surely must, please God - but do any of you have any ideas? I know a lot of you couldn’t care less but humour those of us who do!

Oh dear! My evening meal used to be timed around the 7 o’clock slot, but alas no more.

I wonder if there is any audience left for these tedious monologues?

The 75 minutes Archers omnibus on a Sunday morning has been "my time" for the last 40 years but I think I'm about done with it now. In an age where we can remotely connect with others on the other side of the world, I'm at a loss as to why the BBC have been unable to do anything better than this omnishambles. The monologues are dreary, uninteresting and tedious. Even Kathy Perks was more interesting than this.

Beyond dreadful.

The question was "How are we going to cope without the Archers?" .

As time goes by it seems we have no choice. Surely it was not above the wit of man to sort out something more like normal. Others have done it. Yawn, yawn. Come on BBC get your act together and stop being so lethargic.

First Harrison and now Alice. Can anyone really deliver a monologue while cleaning their teeth? hmm grin

Kate54 Tue 21-Jul-20 20:45:45

But at least Alice is about to be exposed as having a drink problem..... meanwhile, why hasn’t the BBC announced a return date? Unbelievable. Many listeners will have been lost.

I am one of them Kate 54 - so dull!

Greeneyedgirl Thu 23-Jul-20 15:04:03

I don’t know anyone who has stuck with it, so they must have haemorrhaged listeners.

merlotgran Thu 23-Jul-20 15:47:36

I'm still listening but cross that once again Ed Grundy is getting all the bad breaks.

I bet Tim Oatey is the fly tipper.

LullyDully Thu 23-Jul-20 18:11:15

I thought it could be Philip.

Scribbles Thu 23-Jul-20 18:58:33

I thought the same, Lully. I'll find out in 18 minutes or so ☺.

Greeneyedgirl Thu 23-Jul-20 19:18:48

You lot have got me listening again to find out who the fly tipper is grin

merlotgran Thu 23-Jul-20 20:16:11

Listening to Alice tonight had me wondering if it was too early for a wine grin

Greeneyedgirl Wed 29-Jul-20 18:36:19

Thought I’d give it a second chance so tuned in whilst driving over to my mum’s.

Model train sets............nuf said ?

merlotgran Wed 29-Jul-20 19:25:51

It's dire and there doesn't seem to be much Lockdown going on.

Scribbles Wed 29-Jul-20 23:50:57

What's the betting Fallon will get broody after taking care of niece? Are we about due for another unable-to-conceive storyline?

Or Harrison will be broody and she won't, resulting in all sorts of tensions and a break up?

I know BBC local radio stations are running on a very thin shoestring but even the poorest of them would surely not sink so low as to hire Soosan, however cheap her hourly rate!

LullyDully Thu 30-Jul-20 08:31:49

Bring back The Archers , enough furlough for the lot of them. It makes little sense now. I sadly keep listening in the hope it will improve . But model railways says it all.

eGJ Fri 31-Jul-20 07:24:32

Me too Lully. Why can’t Brian and Shula be on together? Surely they have been together in lockdown in real life! At least Emma is being realistic with the virtual Flower and Produce, but I may have stopped listening before thatsad

merlotgran Thu 06-Aug-20 19:24:26

The 'Ooh ar Ooh ar' accents always make me laugh but Chris Carter pronouncing Harvest as Horrorfest was a cracker! grin

Franbern Sun 09-Aug-20 09:48:45

Find it difficult to understand how Coronation street has managed to continue filming keeping normal story lines running, whilst The Archers, - no pictures just radio has not been able to do so.
Have virtually given up listening - as I usually had no idea who was wittering on about what - and cared less.
On Feedback, this week, it was said that they were protecting some very elderly actors in this - I can accept that, and would understand if they were not used at the time time (same as Corrie is not using child actors), just referred to. But cannot understand with so much technology why normal scrips cannot be followed.
BRING BACK THE ARCHERS before it loses ALL its faithful audiance.

shysal Sun 09-Aug-20 11:34:37

Merlot, I am just listening to my recording of the omnibus. I am glad I had read your post, because I wouldn't have interpreted the 'horrorfest' as harvest! It would have puzzled me.

Kate54 Sun 09-Aug-20 11:46:32

I can’t believe it was May 1st when I posted on this topic. Well over three months ago! I have stopped listening. It was painless. But I still hope The Archers as we once knew them return some day.

Greeneyedgirl Tue 25-Aug-20 13:48:33

I still miss TA and wonder if anything meaningful in the way of births, marriages and deaths is happening. If the one person who has stuck with it, is reading this, can you please post a quick summary, so I will be up to date if ever resumes normal service?

Chewbacca Tue 25-Aug-20 13:54:10

Sorry Greeneyedgirl but everyone in Ambridge is still wandering around talking to themselves.
