I would be interested to hear what other people felt about last nights Coronation Street. It was truly upsetting and I think they have gone too far with this story about domestic abuse . Surely a soap should be a little more light hearted, or am I wrong?

Loved the way Sally greeted the prison officer, asking about his new kitchen!

BlueBelle Tue 07-Jul-20 16:29:04

grannynannywanny not only have dozens of them been in prison (6 I can think of) but nearly all of them have been in that darned hospital bed ???(but I keep watching )

Yes Calendargirl when he ran out in the street in the early morning he was clean shaven with almost long greased back hair then by tea time he had a beard and short hair again. Weird?

Calendargirl Mon 06-Jul-20 22:10:44

Did anyone else notice Nick was fairly clean shaven at the start of tonight’s episode, then a bit later the same morning he had a beard and facial hair?

Very fast growing.

I agree with you about Gary Windass Grannynannywanny a pointless and unnecessary story line.
I find Dev Alahan wearing now with that silly voice he puts on at times but I suppose in real life we have neighbours we like and others we don't so much.
Think I need to get out more ( when I can of course )

Oh I like Steve Mcdonald! He's very funny. Mary is odd. I remember when she first started and was obsessed with Norris. She even kidnapped him. Which was just too odd. Iwas surprised she was kept in.

Charleygirl5 Wed 17-Jun-20 09:18:26

Most of them earn little but can have breakfast at Roy's and pop in for a myriad of coffees.

Grannynannywanny Wed 17-Jun-20 08:56:31

I’m still loyal to Corrie although it has become more far fetched as time goes on.
Agree about Aggie the nurse who can pop up in every hospital scene.

For a small street almost every resident has been in prison. Just as well they have 2 solicitors in the street who are available to defend them!
I find the Gary Windass story the most irritating

Charleygirl5 Wed 17-Jun-20 08:54:23

I forgot about him sodapop- I could not agree more.

I do hope the domestic abuse trial does not drag on for so long that we get sick of it and it loses any message it was supposed to give.

sodapop Wed 17-Jun-20 08:38:27

I like Mary, it would be a shame to lose the 'characters' on Corrie. Maureen Lipman is excellent. I think Steve MacDonald has to be one of the worst actors I have seen, couldn't act his way out of a paper bag.

Charleygirl5 Tue 16-Jun-20 21:40:01

Mary gets on my nerves- I am not sure why she is still there.

Namsnanny Tue 16-Jun-20 19:21:27

Ooo! Pat Phelan Jane10 I wished they didn't kill him off. The actor who played him (Connor MacIntyre) portrayed the nuances of the character so well, I could have watched all night. All be it through my fingers!
Sorry don't bye into the Kirk character, feels tired and old hat.

Jane10 Tue 16-Jun-20 17:57:04

There are characters I like though: Eileen, Tim, Chesney, Brian, Ken, Dev, Mary, Kirk, Tyrone, Fiz and Tyrone's gran of course! Stories involving those characters are usually engaging and entertaining.

Charleygirl5 Tue 16-Jun-20 10:33:05

Jane10 I totally agree with you. This latest Carla story is pure rubbish. Everything is spun out until I am totally bored. Rula Lenska's voice also grated on my nerves- I hope she has left forever.

I am only interested in the abuse story at present. I do not understand why the police did not find the cameras when they searched the house.

Jane10 Tue 16-Jun-20 10:25:00

I'm still hooked. There are characters I care about and those I don't. I don't care about Carla, Garry or Nick.
They'll spin out the Yasmeen story to ridiculous lengths like they did the Pat Phelan one. ie too long!

Jane43 Tue 16-Jun-20 10:19:00

I had given up watching it but I am tuning in to see the Yasmin and Geoff story develop. I hope it concludes soon but I have a feeling it will drag on with Yasmin going to prison and her allies trying to get her freed. Why doesn’t somebody talk to Geoff’s ex wife/wives? When other characters are on screen I do something else. The Oliver story has potential but I can’t stand the way Steve McDonald talks in a babyish voice.

Calendargirl Tue 16-Jun-20 09:45:53

I know BlueBelle, I often wonder why I keep tuning in. But, it’s 60 years this December I think to when it began, and sometimes, just sometimes, it still seems worth it.

Knittynatter Tue 16-Jun-20 09:44:19

I’m only watching it for Yasmin Geoff Tim and Sally at the moment. This new Carla storyline is just going to be ridiculous.

BlueBelle Tue 16-Jun-20 09:39:11

The quads have been down to one for some weeks ?
Yes I think the nurse story is ridiculous
Why do I keep watching !!!
The storyline with the missing dad and the mum and daughter that Adams watching is really poor too

Daniel please get that awful ginger hair off your chin looks horrid you looked so much nicer without it (just in case he’s reading)

Calendargirl Tue 16-Jun-20 09:29:08

Just read somewhere about future Corrie episodes.
Children no longer allowed on the set due to Covid, so no scenes with Gemma and the quads.
They might be mentioned as being upstairs.

Thank heavens, one storyline that I certainly won’t miss.

(Not the PND, just the daft having quads tale).

Also, Nurse Aggie seems to have stepped into Martin Platt’s shoes as The Nurse Who Is Always There, despite only returning to work a short while ago, she is matey with the consultants, and has no concept of being discreet, blabbing to her husband on the phone about the neighbours child being rushed in to hospital.

Lucca Thu 21-May-20 12:51:05

Oh my goodness I think Liz looks weird and completely plastic but if that is what is “looking fab” is then I guess I’m wrong

BlueBelle Thu 21-May-20 12:47:05

Totally disagree about the domestic violence comment of original post flemenco it needs showing and understanding especially how someone can be the pillar of the community the life and soul of the party and still be so coercive and cruel
What I don’t understand is why the police didn’t already know they had had enquiries about GeoffS behaviour from Jasmine Didn’t they join the dots up
I Still can’t get over how many tines that hospital bed is used there is nearly always a person in it I think Geoff kept it warm for Oliver
I disagree about Liz I think she looks way too ironed but I do agree about Rula Lenski she was an awful character and her voice drove me mad I think Maureen Lipman is brilliant so po faced in her put downs Love her The black family are as wooden as a tree trunk and quite unbelievable But I plod on with the hope of it getting better

Calendargirl Thu 21-May-20 12:35:37

Whatever Liz looks like now, her outfits don’t vary much.

MDAL.

Kandinsky Thu 21-May-20 12:30:20

Yes. Soaps have almost become ‘public awareness campaigns’ - it’s all a bit much sometimes with so many issues going on in one small street - I miss the Jack & Vera days when the show had more humour & wasn't so serious - although I appreciate tackling issues such as domestic violence & homophobia are extremely helpful.
I’m really enjoying Maureen Lipman’s character at the moment. Light relief!
