I found Lara’s thread very useful and it was very popular so, as Lara hasn’t started a new thread I have.

Any suggestions on what to watch tonight gransnetters?

We went on the Aurora to Northern Norway.to see the Northern lights last year. As Espee says they were grey. But if you continued to watch they moved, reformed and changed colour. Very beautiful.

paddyanne we spent much of that glorious weather in lockdown on Loch Lomond. Didn’t realise we could have been looking out for the Aurora. Mind you, after a days sailing we were usually sleeping soundly well before dark. ?

We're watching Burley Chassis at the BBC on BBC4. Seen it before but some great footage of bygone days.

Oh, that duet with Neil Diamond. Be still my beating heart! blush

Thanks *paddyanne, it's probably my best chance now!

Loving watching Secret Scotland on 5HD with Susan Calman. Fabulous scenery, interesting information, and Calman’s enthusiasm combine to make this programme an unexpected treat.

Watched ‘Finding Your Feet’ on Film 4, with Imelda Staunton, Celia Imrie and Timothy Spall. Loved it

We’ve been alternating between episodes of The Bridge (which we’ve never seen before) and Line of Duty (which we have) this week. We’re nearing the end of series 1 of the first and at the start of series 3 of the second. They’re both so good.

We’ve only confused the two once, when I mis-identified a new couple in The Bridge as the parents of missing teenager Carly in LOD. grin

Looking forward to mid-identifying a few more characters in A Suitable Boy tonight.

Talking about 'A Suitable Boy', I accidentally found 'Indian Matchmaking' on Netflix and binge watched it. I was so interested to see how they all got on with the matches carefully drawn up by Sima and her associates including astrologers and face readers. Mum and friends also consulted. Fascinating viewing. Mostly Indians living in the US but some in India.

I am a bit late with this, but I'm watching My Brilliant Friend. Series 1 and 2 on Sky Atlantic. It is set in a very poor part of Naples in the 50s. It is sub titles, so I had to wait until I was feeling alert, as I have to concentrate to read it all. Unlike the Scandi dramas, they talk exceedingly fast. Had to rewind a few times.

It took several episodes before I really got into it, but am thoroughly enjoying it now. Love the music too. I have also found the first book in my online local library, so will try that after.

I started watching Dirty John on Netflix after my sis in law said about it. I am hooked. Although it is a typical hammy American series in places, it is a very good subject, all about a woman who falls under the spell of a no good man. It is based on a true life experience.

Pantglas2 Tue 25-Aug-20 09:29:06

That is good Travelsafar and so is the next true story in similar vein, Susan Broderick story.

There are a couple of good blasts from the past on tonight. The Who Do You Think You Are? Judge Rinder episode’s on BBC1, but I think we’re going to watch the last ever Inspector Morse with John Thaw from 2000. I’m not sure I’ve ever seen it. hmm

Lucca Tue 25-Aug-20 12:14:59

Oh it’s so sad Maggie maybe

Maggiemaybe Tue 25-Aug-20 12:17:24

I’ll have the tissues ready then, Lucca. sad

Just watching Morse.

What a superb actor John Thaw was.

Such a loss.

Sarahmob Tue 25-Aug-20 21:58:52

I went with the Judge Rinder episode of ‘who do you think you are’, very moving.

Maggiemaybe Tue 25-Aug-20 22:07:53

Phew, that was an emotional rollercoaster (The Remorseful Day). We’ll save the WDYTYA for another day, I think.

merlotgran Tue 25-Aug-20 22:12:42

I'm going to miss my weekly fix of Our Yorkshire Farm.

Marmight Tue 25-Aug-20 22:42:55

Watched Our Yorkshire Farm - the last one of the series. Home filmed during lockdown with all the children having a go! Little Clemmie is definitely the star ?. What an amazing, idyllic life they lead

Callistemon Tue 25-Aug-20 22:59:46

It was, wasn't it!
John Thaw looked quite ill in that final episode; I wonder if he actually was or makeup and excellent acting.

paddyanne Tue 25-Aug-20 23:27:02

We watched the last Morse episode too ,cried buckets over it,I must have seen it 4 times and it still affects me .great series ,great actors .

maddyone Tue 25-Aug-20 23:31:17

I watched Who Do You Think You Are? It was about Judge Rinder and was indeed very moving, as others have said.

Sparklefizz Wed 26-Aug-20 09:09:49

I watched WDYTYA about Judge Rinder. I saw it the first time round but I like him and wanted to see it again. He seems a lovely man with a warm and lovely family. Very moving.

I sat with a huge smile on my face as i watched Our Yorkshire Farm. The scenes of the children gambling over the moors searching for bird eggs and lost lambs, it filled my heart with so much joy. How i would treasure those films when i got older if i were one of those children. I just loved their reward, an evening swim in the local stream. Pure magic. Hope they do another series.

gulligranny Wed 26-Aug-20 12:49:00

We too watched The Remorseful Day, the end was so touching. I believe that John Thaw was quite ill by that time and so it seems even more poignant.

Otherwise, we are bingeing on Waking The Dead on i-player; my word, it's good! Absorbing storylines, great acting, and it's interesting to see the big names/future big names in the cast lists: recently we had Corin Redgrave and Patricia Hodge, then Anton Lesser (my beloved Mr. Bright from Endeavour) and Cheri Lunghi ... and above all the great and glorious Trevor Eve, utterly mesmerising.
