I found Lara’s thread very useful and it was very popular so, as Lara hasn’t started a new thread I have.

Any suggestions on what to watch tonight gransnetters?

I’ve just been watching Cinderella with the lovely Richard Madden (& Lily James) blush

seacliff Sun 30-Aug-20 11:28:18

Thanks whoever recommended Finding Your Feet. Loved it, a feel good film, and not too long.

I want more like that please.

Pantglas2 Sun 30-Aug-20 12:38:20

I’ve started Bloodlines on Netflix and it’s intriguing after three episodes.....

Calendargirl Sun 30-Aug-20 12:52:10

Strike on at 9pm.

Great.

Marmight Sun 30-Aug-20 13:25:08

That was me Seacliff! I think I may watch it again. I was down in the dumps and it certainly lifted my spirits - a bit like Cinderella yesterday ?

Thank you Marmight I also watched and really enjoyed Finding Your Feet after your recommendation.
Last night I watched Schitt’s Creek on Netflix, a Canadian comedy recommended by a friend. I watched 3 episodes and found it very funny. A super rich family who suddenly find themselves bankrupt and stripped of all their assets. All they had left was a run down grubby little town in the back of beyond they bought years ago as a joke because of the name. They go to live there. It gave me a good laugh and I’m going to watch more tonight.

Thanks Marmight smile. Yes some films are good to watch more than once, you know it but still entertains. Our boys always loved watching Crocodile Dundee over and over, we knew all the punch lines.

I will have to try Cinderella now.

I watched the first episode of ‘Strike’ on BBC1 and enjoyed it.

Gwyneth Sun 30-Aug-20 22:32:57

Also watched ‘Strike’ which I enjoyed. Lots of people have, or are watching Montalbano and I really love it. Does anyone know if there will be a new series. Great thread ..... lots of suggestions on what to watch next!

paddyanne Sun 30-Aug-20 22:57:41

Watched Strike ,now watching Damage series 1 on Netflix slow starter ,looks like it might be good

Eloethan Sun 30-Aug-20 23:31:47

I watched Strike. I like the two main characters but I don't find the plots particularly believable or interesting.

BBbevan Mon 31-Aug-20 06:05:16

Caught up with 2nd series of The Bridge last evening. Has anyone watched Ticker Than Water on All4 . A Swedish series Interesting . .
We will watch Strike tonight

Calendargirl Mon 31-Aug-20 08:27:34

I read ‘Lethal White’, the latest Strike, in Lockdown, a long book, and it made me realise how much they have to condense it to get a 4 part tv series.

They have to miss certain parts out, and improvise others, e.g. the first chapter of the book was devoted to Robin’s wedding day, after she said ‘I Do’, and soooo much was skipped over last night, which really set the scene for ‘One Year Later’.

I watched a really old film on Prime called Life with Father. It was made in 1947 but is in colour. It is set in the 1800's and all about the life of a family with a stern, or tries to be stern, father. Parts of it are very funny, well it had me chuckling anyway. smile

TerriBull Mon 31-Aug-20 09:33:38

We watched Strike last night having both of us having read the book but forgotten a lot of it other than Robin's wedding and the breakdown of her marriage. Other than that am watching "This is Us" on Amazon Prime.

TerriBull Mon 31-Aug-20 09:35:01

having only meant to say that once.

Calendargirl Mon 31-Aug-20 09:37:59

and the breakdown of her marriage

Oh TerriBull, hope you haven’t given the game away!

Funnygran Mon 31-Aug-20 09:54:40

Watched Strike too after enjoying the first series. DH said it was in danger of turning into a ‘woman’s series’ ie too much emphasis on relationships! We’re well into Ozark on Netflix after a friend recommended it. Violent in places but strangely gripping. Was getting sick of the repeats on the main channels. I read something about the Walter Presents series on Channel 4 and they reckoned we should be looking at some of the Belgian dramas.

TerriBull Mon 31-Aug-20 09:58:27

Hope not Calandargirl blush I think it's been evident for some time there is a definite frisson between Strike and Robin and her relationship with the newly acquired husband has been heading for the rocks for a while. Anyway the dynamics of those relationships are merely a backdrop to the main plot.

maddyone Mon 31-Aug-20 10:49:26

I watched Strike last night, and will watch again tonight.
We watched Line of Duty, series one when it was shown a couple of weeks ago, and have started to watch series two now on BBC iPlayer.

annodomini Mon 31-Aug-20 11:23:12

Got to the end of season 2 of New Amsterdam - a hospital series on Prime, very hard-hitting against the US system of medical insurance and supportive of those who slip through the net. The recording of the series was interrupted by the pandemic, and one of the new characters was himself affected, though survived.

merlotgran Mon 31-Aug-20 11:29:14

If I can twist DH's arm we'll watch Mama Mia - Here we go again. He's not a fan of fluffy musicals but at least it's not doom and gloom for a change.

eazybee Mon 31-Aug-20 11:57:27

I discovered 'The Day of the Jackal' and thoroughly enjoyed it; a very dashing Edward Fox and many stalwart British actors, sadly many now dead. Then on to 'Srike', an unexpected treat: something new, and good!

Calendargirl Mon 31-Aug-20 12:02:13

‘The Day of the Jackal’ -what a good film, although looks a bit dated now.
I always hope somehow he will succeed, wrong I know.

Never watched the re-make with Bruce Willis, I am sure it wouldn’t be a patch on the original.

Marmight Mon 31-Aug-20 17:53:03

Well, apparently at 10pm on Channel 4 tonight, there’s a programme devoted entirely to men's ‘bits’ (in the upright position no less) blush. I’m usually nodding off by 10, but perhaps this may make me sit up and take notice. grin Whatever next. Is nothing sacred?

I haven’t watched Strike. I shared a room at school with his (Tom Burke‘s) Mum and Aunt for a year so perhaps I should give it a go. I liked him in The Musketeers.
