It sounds as if Tom Hardy will be the new 007. What do you think and who would you choose?

Bluecat Mon 28-Sept-20 13:15:17

Aiden Turner or Tom Hiddleston.

I would have nominated Idris Elba but I think that he is maybe a bit old now.

Doesn’t do it for me I’m afraid - but you never know, I might get a pleasant surprise!
The whole Bond concept has become hackneyed and predictable though in my opinion. Needs a complete overhaul and update - perhaps Tom Hardy will contribute to that!

I agree GrammarGrandma I gave up watching after 'From Russia with Love'. I personally think the whole franchise is just a moneymaking load of rubbish. grin

@Kartush I am mystified by your comment about a female Dr Who killing it off. It was absolutely fantastic and got praise for bringing awareness of historical issues. I don’t know anyone who didn’t like it (who were already fans). It’s quite literally the only show my son puts his phone down to watch!

I vote for Cillian Murphy although I don't think he would like to do play Bond: too one dimensional a character

leeds22 Mon 28-Sept-20 12:28:21

Tom Hiddlestone for me. Tom Hardy not bad either. My favourite JBs are Pierce Brosnan and Daniel Craig. It wasn't changing Dr Who to a woman that ruined it, it was the silly PC/woke plot lines (now I'll duck under the parapet).

As much as I like Tom Hardy, he mumbles too much for me. None of the talked about in the media contenders fit the bill for me.

Tom Hardy is quite small I think, he only looked tall in Taboo because of the tall hat he wore.??

Tom Hardy's not that small actually. He did performing arts A-level in the same college classes as my daughter (he'd also dated her friend for a while when they were v. young) and was Oberon to her Titania in MSND in one of their performances. He was definitely quite a bit taller than her. I think he'll make an excellent Bond and good on him for doing so well, especially as he was a bit of a 'difficult' lad back in the day!

I've had a lovely chuckle at some of these answers, particularly Graham Norton as Bond, great as he is in his chat show and now as a novelist.
It's James Norton for me, and Aidan Turner.

paddyanne Mon 28-Sept-20 11:41:05

Bond was written as a man of Scottish origin ,rumour was that Sir Fitzroy Maclean was the inspiration for him, although he himself denied it.Doctor Who is science fiction they can make the doctor a dog if they want but Bond shouldn't be subject to PC nonsense keep him true to the books.

Ok this is not going to go down well I feel! BUT when Daniel Craig took over they started with a story line introducing the family home in Scotland the graves of his parents so on so forth, you can't just change James Bond in to a black man over night it would be like changing shaft into an Asian man. If they had kept a story line out of it and when Bond retires pass on the name and 007 to the new Bond the old one reinstated with his real identity! Then I would have no problem with Idris Elba becoming Bond.

Shortlegs Mon 28-Sept-20 11:25:41

David Attenborough, before it's too late.

fluff Mon 28-Sept-20 10:59:03

Dara o Briain, he’s very clever, and has mastered the quizzical look!

Annanan Mon 28-Sept-20 10:50:50

Who’s Tom Hardy? Can’t possibly be as good as Daniel Craig!

LauraNorder Mon 28-Sept-20 10:49:55

Idris Elba without question.

Moggycuddler Mon 28-Sept-20 10:48:07

Tom Hiddleston. Perfect.

dolphindaisy Mon 28-Sept-20 10:44:12

Never been a fan of Sean Connery, every time I watch him in a film I'm looking for the join.

Skweek1 Mon 28-Sept-20 10:31:59

I honestly hate JB, both books and films, so the one thing you can rely on is that I will not be seeing it. My favourite was Connery. I do object, however to the current idea that we have to be PC and therefore sooner or later we'll have to have a black female Bond (probably disabled to boot). Don't get me wrong, I like Elba, but couldn't be more wrong for JB. How about David Tennant, with that sense of fun and perfect comic timing?

Bumpsy Mon 28-Sept-20 10:30:27

Idris Elba for me too. I'm happy to volunteer to be his Bond girl.

grannybuy Mon 28-Sept-20 10:28:20

Ramin Karimloo. He's fit and good looking. He's a wonderful singer, and has had lead roles in Phantom and Les Mis. He's currently in Holby City.

Craftycat Mon 28-Sept-20 10:26:22

Jonny Depp!

Growing0ldDisgracefully Mon 28-Sept-20 10:22:00

Agree Sean Connery was THE 007, but if new ones have to come along it would be Sam Heughan for me.

Coconut Mon 28-Sept-20 10:21:58

Alex O’loughlin without a doubt for me

Kartush Mon 28-Sept-20 10:20:33

Having said that I am really hoping that the producers do not go down the -lets make the character a woman- road. That decision killed Dr Who and I cant see it doing anything for Bond

GrammarGrandma Mon 28-Sept-20 10:19:11

I don't know Tom Hardy but I think it's time to retire the whole dated, misogynist, gratuitously violent franchise. After Skyfall, I just gave up.
