It sounds as if Tom Hardy will be the new 007. What do you think and who would you choose?

Sputnik Mon 28-Sept-20 12:49:03

I vote for Cillian Murphy although I don't think he would like to do play Bond: too one dimensional a character

Buttonjugs Mon 28-Sept-20 12:49:22

@Kartush I am mystified by your comment about a female Dr Who killing it off. It was absolutely fantastic and got praise for bringing awareness of historical issues. I don’t know anyone who didn’t like it (who were already fans). It’s quite literally the only show my son puts his phone down to watch!

missdeke Mon 28-Sept-20 12:50:19

I agree GrammarGrandma I gave up watching after 'From Russia with Love'. I personally think the whole franchise is just a moneymaking load of rubbish. grin

Whingingmom Mon 28-Sept-20 13:00:12

Doesn’t do it for me I’m afraid - but you never know, I might get a pleasant surprise!
The whole Bond concept has become hackneyed and predictable though in my opinion. Needs a complete overhaul and update - perhaps Tom Hardy will contribute to that!

Aiden Turner or Tom Hiddleston.

I would have nominated Idris Elba but I think that he is maybe a bit old now.

Ampersand oh yes... Armie Hammer... I’ve got a big crush on him ?. Was fab in ‘Call Me By Your Name’ and I’ve seen a trailer for a remake of ‘Rebecca’ coming soon that also looks very good!

I stopped watching Doctor Who after a few episodes of Jodie Whittaker and I have never before missed a series. It wasn’t because it was a woman but the scripts were dire. Regarding JB I agree Tom Hardy is too small and mumbles. It would be James Norton for me, he would be suave like Roger Moore.

jaybee66 Mon 28-Sept-20 14:21:40

Of several mentioned I think James Norton and Tom Ward are perfect looking 007 English men and Aiden Turner would fit the part too.

Petalpop Mon 28-Sept-20 14:33:00

Tom Hardy for me every time.

felice Mon 28-Sept-20 15:08:01

Sean Connery had gone to school with a neighbour when I was growing up, when he got the freedom of Edinburgh all his old friends were invited.
My parents neighbour had become a Baker in the Co-op and Sean a milkman.
Only 007 for me.

Candelle Mon 28-Sept-20 15:49:37

Tom who?

I must be v out of touch, as I don't know of this actor.

I can see James Naughton in the Bond role as I think he is an intelligent (as in making good use of his face and body - not his IQ!) actor.

grannie7 Mon 28-Sept-20 15:50:42

Sam Heughan

4allweknow I couldn’t have understood Taboo without the assistance of subtitles though I don’t know whether that was down to Tom Hardy or the sound engineers on the programme.

Pierce Brosnan was my favourite Bond but I couldn’t care less if they never made another Bond film. The world has changed and I can’t imagine how they could ever make it pc enough to pass ‘woke’ censorship.

Forestflame Mon 28-Sept-20 16:23:35

Idris Elba or Aiden Turner

Callistemon Mon 28-Sept-20 16:25:42

Jane10

It's no use. I just can't care.

I'm trying!

But after Pierce Brosnan it all went wrong grin

chrissyh Mon 28-Sept-20 17:12:47

James Norton for me.

squirrel5 Mon 28-Sept-20 17:14:28

Another vote for Aiden Turner

Grandma70s Mon 28-Sept-20 17:30:49

James Norton is too good for James Bond. Like a few others here, I think Bond is utter rubbish.

One of my sons thinks as I do, the other son has loved the books and films since he was 12. My late husband would have had no interest in either the books or the films..

specki4eyes Mon 28-Sept-20 17:34:03

Rowan Atkinson would be my choice, in his Mr Bean persona.

Blossoming Mon 28-Sept-20 17:50:50

Henry Cavill

Rosiebee Mon 28-Sept-20 22:17:22

Don't like JB films but if they chose Tom Burke [Cormoran Strike], I could change my mind. I could watch him in anything.

Seajaye Mon 28-Sept-20 22:18:13

I thought it had been announced that Henry Cavill had got the role. But Aiden Turner would have had my vote, if there had been a shortlist that the public could have voted for. That would have pleasently whiled away some time during lockdown. James Bond films may be a bit formulaic, but they are usually entertaining. And A great British export. Quite looking forward to seeing what impact Phoebe Waller Bridge has had on the female roles in the next new Bond film due out next month.

Did you see the Casino Royale parody with Peter Sellars?

DH dragged me took me to the cinema to see it - I think he thought it would be serious (well, as serious as any Bond film can be).
It was very funny.

glammagran Mon 28-Sept-20 22:57:22

Joe Lycett ?

Callistemon Mon 28-Sept-20 23:00:14

?

I found him rather annoying on the Sewing Bee but saw him on a charity version of Tipping Point and he was lovely.

He could be the second spoof James Bond!
