A lot of oldies!
E.T.
The Tamarind Seed (70s Cold War drama with Omar Sharif and Julie Andrews in her first non-saccharine role)
Whistle Down The Wind
Persuasion (the version with Amanda Root)
Cabaret (the original with Liza Minnelli)
Blithe Spirit (great fun)
The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie

More recent ones include
Spotlight (true story of unmasking abuse by priests in Boston)
Philomena
and The Big Short - about the American who was apparently the only one to see the financial crisis of 2008 coming. Superb acting by whoever played him - I can never remember their names!

I hate anything with a lot of violence/anything sadistic, and just won’t watch them any more.

I couldn’t narrow it down to 10. However, Last of the Mohicans is the one film that I have to watch every time it’s on tv, even though I have it on dvd but have never played it. I was gutted when the soundtrack lost out to to that Australian film about dancing at the Oscars. The tragic scene with Alice is one of the most heartbreaking in the history of the cinema but strangely hypnotic. And, up until that point I hadn’t noticed the love that had developed between her and Uncas.

One of my favourite oldies is the 1940 version of Pride and Prejudice with Greer Garson and Laurence Olivier - Greer Garson twinkles and Laurence Olivier smoulders (although not as much as COlin Firth).

We used to watch it quite often until we loaned it to a friend and never got it back.
