Does anyone enjoy "celebrity" ; versions of popular shows

For some reason the powers that be seem to think we all want to see celebrity versions of our favourite quiz shows at Christmas - not me. I love quizzes but much prefer them with "ordinary" contestants. The celebrities (many I've never even heard of) all play to the camera, some also show their complete lack of general knowledge with embarrassing answers to simple questions. Even The Sewing Bee, one of my favourite programmes, was ruined by silly contestants. I know it's all supposed to be for charidee but they're all being paid appearance fees. Personally I wish they would just give the fee to charity and stay off the shows. Or am I just a miserable old so and so who doesn't appreciate how lucky I am to have my viewing enriched by these superior beings?

I rather enjoy the Celebrity University Challenge because the questions are a bit easier than the ones for the students so more change of getting a few answers.!
I agree about the Sewing Bee.

Yes, I’m loving the celebrity University Challenge. U C is always the highlight of out week but it’s a bit demoralising when you find yourself not even understanding the question let alone knowing the answer.

I’m with you dolphindaisy......I prefer normal mortals like you and me. However, I have noticed one thing - the ‘celebrities’ who go on these gameshows are usually those, who are not ‘current’ so to speak, like Kim Marsh, who left Corrie.....haven’t seen her on anything else since then .

Quite agree, dolphindaisy. I don't watch anything with "celebrity"in the title, usually because I don't watch the shows anyway, but I do see the trailers. Most of the time I don't recognise any of the contestants. I'm always left wondering why they all have to be having such a wonderful time and laughing more than anyone would believe possible? Surely it can't all be that funny!

I agree Dolphindaisy, but saying that, when they appear on the likes of The Chase, it shows their stupidity in trying to answer the simplest of questions only to get it wrong, so they certainly don't appear on our screens because they're brainy. If they had a brain between them they'd be lethal. grin Intelligent they're not.

Having the brass-neck and being hard-faced and pushy gets them where they are, nothing else.

No

I agree Dolphindaisy.
The questions seem to be easier on the ‘celebrity’ shows and many of them I would not recognise as such.

CrazyH, Kym Marsh hosted the Morning Live show in October leading up to Christmas. I watched it every morning on BBC1 and enjoyed it. I like Kym as there's no pretence about her.

I like to see celebrities doing things they are not known for and they have to earn a living when there are so few new programmes being made.

MayBee70 agree with you on UC, quite enjoyed it last night instead of feeling thicker than normal afterwards!

I actually quite enjoyed the celebrity Sewing Bee - a little bit of harmless nonsense. University Challenge was good too, and I enjoyed Pointless yesterday, when Bananarama won.

I seem to have seen a lot of the celebrity versions of shows recently and Shirley Ballas seems to have been on every one so far ?.

Lucretzia Tue 29-Dec-20 17:33:08

Not keen

Especially Pointless and The Chase

I quite liked Gethin blush

I enjoy celebrity versions of lots of things as it proves that celebrities are more mortals. I enjoy the ordinary mere mortals too.

Only UC. Otherwise I avoid like the plague anything with celebrities - I even hate that word.

BlueBelle Tue 29-Dec-20 17:35:55

I don’t .ike the celebrity versions either think Celebrity Googlebox is dreadful can’t watch it

Lucretzia Tue 29-Dec-20 17:39:53

Oh yes, Bluebelle

Celebrity Gogglebox is just awful

grannyrebel7 Tue 29-Dec-20 17:40:29

Love celebrity versions of shows especially Pointless and Who Wants to be a Millionaire.

Calendargirl Tue 29-Dec-20 17:44:34

Regarding Pointless, it’s apparent that some of the celebrity contestants have never actually watched the show before.

They seem to be have no idea about aiming for the least popular answer, or not thinking their answers out loud.

Many are past their celebrity prime, and it’s a bit sad to see them grabbing a few more minutes of fame.

I quite like seeing celebs on masterchef, the professionals are way too good!

shysal Tue 29-Dec-20 18:01:05

I am another who noticed Shirley Ballas on 4 shows in the same day!

Last nights had quite difficult questions I think.

The only good thing about the celebrities in the majority of these shows is that their winnings go to charities of their choice.

silverlining48 Tue 29-Dec-20 18:13:25

I never know who these supposed 'celebrities' are, so for me they could be anyone. Being famous for being in a 'reality' tv programme doesn't make anyone a star.
