New series starts this evening, so with no big debate, no negative comments.......just a simple yes or no will suffice, will you be watching?
I will!

V3ra Sun 18-Apr-21 22:21:30

Yes indeed here too!
One of the actors was interviewed last week and said they were due to start filming again now: three more series have been commissioned, plus a Christmas special ?

Clearly in a minority i find call the midwife nauseating....

Ashcombe Sun 18-Apr-21 22:27:46

Yes, but will watch on iPlayer tomorrow as I was on the 'phone to an old friend tonight. I’m loving revisiting past episodes on the Drama channel on Sunday evenings, too.

Yes I watched. It’s 1966 the year I met dh. Another time a difference world.

grandmajet Sun 18-Apr-21 22:31:53

I watched, for the first time. Interesting story theme about radiation.

Yes! I have loved Call the Midwife from the very first series.
It’s not afraid to tackle some very difficult subjects which prevents it from being impossibly twee.

Straight after it tonight there was a programme on BBC4 with Stephen McGann talking about the making of the series.
Such a fascinating insight into the meticulous research which goes on to ensure the episodes are as authentic as possible.

Worth seeing if anyone missed it.

I watched it. Love it.
Typical man, my dh said... 1966, World Cup. smile

It tackled a very difficult subject this evening, one which is still affecting people today.

Yes - love it. Some of the acting a bit dodgy, but I still love it.

spottybook Mon 19-Apr-21 08:20:56

Another fan here. DH enjoys it too!

Maggiemaybe Mon 19-Apr-21 08:37:38

It was the perfect night’s viewing for me. My only issue was when to dare run into the kitchen to top up my wine glass so as not to miss anything between 8 and 10. Luckily I timed it perfectly, just before LOD started and when Sister Monica was wittering musing about her crisis of faith.

kircubbin2000 Mon 19-Apr-21 08:46:07

I enjoyed it but my friend wouldn't watch it as her husband might not enjoy it.

Alexa Mon 19-Apr-21 08:49:48

CTM is based on real information. I very much liked the first of the new series.

Seriously!!! There are some strange people around ?

Really? My husband had to record the Grand Prix so I could watch from 8pm until 10pm. Selfish - moi? It was my birthday though.
I loved Midwife as always, I was nursing in the sixties so I can relate to it well.

Parsley3 Mon 19-Apr-21 09:09:59

I have been watching this again during lockdown and I really welcome this new series. I hope Sister Monica Joan gets her pep back.

I do watch it, but I sympathise with your point of view. It is very sentimental. Stephen McGann (Dr Turner) irritates me no end. I like Laura/Shelagh, though.

I was 26 in 1966 and really had no idea there was such grinding poverty anywhere in this country, so it is educational for me.

yggdrasil Mon 19-Apr-21 09:41:54

Yes I did, and that documentary on BBC4 afterwards. Fascinating insights.

And the BBC is saying it will axe BBC4, they are clearly mad

EllanVannin Mon 19-Apr-21 09:49:02

Same age as me Grandma70's and although poverty wasn't around me personally,I was aware of it, especially if I went to Liverpool.
The series takes me back in part as I was nursing in those times.
Must admit I don't watch it all the time but did read that " Chummy" could be returning, a time when I did watch it when Miranda Hart was in it.

At 26 I was bringing up 4 children, 2 of my own and 2 step-children so had my work cut out, as well as fitting in a few nights on duty.

Grammaretto Mon 19-Apr-21 10:01:31

I enjoy it though that first episode was heavy going! Where are the nice, happy, quick home births? I know where's the drama in that!

It is good that they tackle serious issues like thalidomide and sudden infant death.

Apparently the birthrate, at least in Scotland, is declining, more so since covid. Maybe there will be a post covid baby boom? like the post war bulge.

mamaa Mon 19-Apr-21 10:13:12

I did- almost forgot it was on though! Great viewing again for me on Sundays with CTM followed by LOD.

Trixie looked like she was off to entertain a stag night in that uniform.

All the previous series, including Christmas Specials, may be found on iPlayer.

Yes from here. Have to negotiate with OH though re Grand Prix. I bought another tv to ease the tension ?
