Ok, am I the only one who hates tennis?

Wimbledon bores me rigid. The gasping and grunting with every shot really grinds my gears. I have never really been into spectator sports but sitting there for hours at Wimbledon watching a ball go back and forth, back and forth, and then if it rains there is a risk that Cliff Richard will get to his feet and sing shock No thanks. It is the sheer tedium of it

Not mad keen, though we’ve been once or twice - we don’t live far away and I’ve enjoyed being there - all those lovely purple petunias! Going late on the last day has been v good more than once, for mixed doubles finals, which are always much more fun to watch than any of the others.

Very bad dds and their friends would occasionally bunk off school and wait outside the gates after about 4.30 ish in their school uniform - people leaving early would feel sorry for them and give them their tickets! Sometimes they even got Centre Court ones.

I have no interest in any sport, don’t even watch the olympics.

I am not competitive or sporty in any way.

My late MIL used to love watching tennis and I'd often find myself drawn in to watching it with her. As she was rather deaf she'd have the subtitles on which were often hilariously incorrect so we'd get the giggles. I met OH at the tennis club, I was a keen player, he was a social member and tbh I don't think he ever saw me play despite us buying a house with a garden that backed onto the club. I have never ever seen him watch any sport on TV although I am often glued for hours to my favourite sport. I enjoy watching Wimbledon, not boring at all!

TerriBull ...nothing to do with tennis but there is a really good book called ‘A Long Walk To Wimbledon’ which I think may be written by H.R.F Keating ( or not) ?

Can’t stand watching any sports. So , yes I do go off and do something else. Probably something lots of people would not find interesting.

I'm in the same category as Calendargirl. I lost interest a long time ago. I watched in the McEnroe era. I still watch the finals if I recognise the players.
I have a friend like Lemsip's who is unavailable during Wimbledon.
I just want to add, I don't like when people comment "There's an off switch". It seems rude.

I’m loving every moment. German player Otte currently giving Andy Murray a run for his money. One set all.

Daniel Evans GB now through. Woohoo

One of the greatest pleasures in life for me is watching Rafa Nadal or David Goffin or Stan Wawrinka or any other good sportsperson play a match.

On the other hand I have never got the grasp of cricket.

Andy Murray’s body language gets me down.when it is going wrong he completely droops … (that’s not a cheeky reference to his fall and injured area)
I feel kind of bad for his opponent when the crowd cheer even an unforced error.

Sad to see Tsonga go out. Love him.

TrendyNannie6 Wed 30-Jun-21 21:01:27

Not a fan of tennis ?

We were looking forward to watching The Repair Shop tonight but the tennis over ran and it wasn't on angry Does it have to be on both channels? What with the Euros, I'm fed up.

I’d rather stick pins in my eyes

BigBertha1 Thu 01-Jul-21 06:08:27

I don't mind a bit of it but when it's the ladies base line to base line bashing I tend to drop off

Katie59 Thu 01-Jul-21 07:49:24

I have an off button and when the women’s matches start grunting and gasping I press it, I’m sure they only do it to intimidate the opponent, it should be stopped.
Men’s tennis is good, well done Andy, best of luck next round

It’s awful. Tedious and populated by some utter snobs. All that “come on Tim” stuff in cut glass accents. Bleugh.
As for Murray…. Off button used a lot at this time of year ….

Bit of a sweeping generalisation ! Do you mean the crowd or the players !

J52 Thu 01-Jul-21 09:07:13

It probably helps if you play/ have played tennis. I’m off to hit the ball into the net!! I’ve been taking notes on how the great players serve.

nanna8 Thu 01-Jul-21 09:39:21

I only like it when my country is still in it.

Chewbacca Thu 01-Jul-21 09:40:53

I don't like any sport that has balls in it; no matter what shape or size they are.
