Does anyone have a favourite piece of music that just gives them goosebumps when they hear it? Mine is. Toccata no5. By Vidor. It makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand up when I hear this fantastic organ being played. !!

Un bel di vedremo from madam butterfly

Che Gelida manina from la Bohème.

That’s just off the top of my head.

Lucca, both of those were played at my sister in law's funeral last week, she adored opera, and had chosen the music. It was a lovely reminder of a very dear lady.

Almost too difficult to choose, but

Eric Satie - Gymnopedies and Gnossiens

Rodrego - Concierto de Aranguez

Vaughan Williams - Lark Ascending

Fleetwoodmac - Albatross

I also love many of the above.

Life on Mars - David Bowie. The strings, arranged by Mick Ronson are just sublime. The song never fails to move me, even the first note gives me goosebumps. www.youtube.com/watch?v=AZKcl4-tcuo&ab_channel=DavidBowie

How wonderful. I’m absolutely not an opera expert but it does touch my heart I have to say.

Acker Bilk "Strangers on the shore". Love all things clarinet anyway, but that gets to me the most.

Gossamerbeynon1945 Sun 04-Jul-21 13:36:06

The Armed Man a Mass for Peace composer Karl Jenkins (2 Cellos).

I also love Barcelona sung by Freddie Mercury and Monserrat Cabal. What a voice she has!

Fennel Sun 04-Jul-21 16:03:42

grandMattie - I share your love of Bach, especially St. Matthew Passion. When i was about 15 I sang in a choir which was my introduction to clasical music.
and many more the same as others. especially Beachboys.
gulligranny's first choice - Rachmaninov.
Borodin string quartet no.2

Fennel, the Borodin is just meltingly lovely - excellent choice.

Song to the Moon from the opera Rusalka. I absolutely adore it. I have a CD of Lesley Garrett singing it.

Bach Double Violin does it for me every time. The best piece of music ever written, I have to stop whatever I am doing and listen,

Oh, yes!

There are too many to mention, but for its sheer exhuberance, Bach’s “Prelude in E major” for piano. It’s only three and a half minutes long but it gives me a tremendous lift.
Parry’s “I Was Glad”;
Like Dinahmo Ravel’s G major. The second movement brings me to tears.
“Norfolk Rhapsody” No 1 by Vaughan Williams;
“Coronation Scot” by Vivian Ellis. Wonderfully evocative.
“Wouldn’t it be Nice” because I love The Beach Boys.
“Songbird” sung by Eva Cassidy.

I must confess to also being rather fond of Ian Drury singing Hit Me with your Rhythm Stick ?

Nice one. He's sadly missed.

I love the Elizabethan Serenade by Ronald Binge and of course many of those already shared.
