I enjoyed the first 2 series, even though one of the characters is a bit annoying. Series 3 starts tomorrow. It’s set in Canada even though it is supposed to be the US.

Give it a whirl.

I didn't think Virgin River would be my cup of tea but I was immediately hooked. The scenery is fabulous.

I wonder if my annoying character is the same as yours NanKate?

Can't wait for series 3.

Thanks for the heads up i loved the first 2 series.

Ginny42 Thu 08-Jul-21 19:24:00

I really enjoyed the story lines and the characters, although I think I can guess which character you find irritating NanKate. The scenery is superb. I'm looking forward to Series 3 tomorrow as I've been stuck for choice on Netflix lately. .

I’ll probably watch it when I can’t sleep ! Lovely scenery but it’s a bit cheesy

Poppyred Thu 08-Jul-21 19:36:38

Oh thanks! Will watch the 3rd series - I binge watched the first two series - not sure why - it is cheesy. ??

Aveline Thu 08-Jul-21 19:39:31

Ooh great. I didn't expect the next series for ages. It got a bit cheesy in series 2 but I love the setting and many of the characters.
Drat. I've still got 5 more series of 'Offspring' to catch up on. Looks like my convalescence won't be too boring after all!

Esspee Thu 08-Jul-21 21:31:31

If you like Virgin River you might enjoy Chesapeake Shores. Similarly cheesy but addictive.

Esspee Thu 08-Jul-21 21:32:50

Aveline Have you watched Rake?

Aveline Thu 08-Jul-21 21:33:01

I watched that too. Trace Riley was gorgeous! Programme just a bit too cheesy for me though.

vegansrock Thu 08-Jul-21 21:36:36

Easy viewing, nice scenery and a lot of nice quilts on beds.

Esspee Thu 08-Jul-21 21:37:38

Merlotgran The doctor's estranged wife irritates me immensely. Ages since I watched it so I can't remember her name. Her acting is ridiculously over the top. I'm guessing you agree. ?

NanKate Thu 08-Jul-21 22:09:38

Yes you’ve guessed the annoying one. Did you know she is the daughter of Peter O’Toole and Sian Phillips and she is also a Kate.

Thanks for your recommendation * Esspee*.

Yay another Offspring fan ! I loved it.

Like that too !

Lucca Thu 08-Jul-21 22:49:48

Rake isn’t cheesy !?

mamaa Thu 08-Jul-21 23:11:51

Thanks for heads up- enjoyed the last 2 series- binge watched in lockdown tbh can’t remember which lockdown!
Just hope next series is ‘in the can’ ready for the next lockdown the way things are going…

Doodle Thu 08-Jul-21 23:26:48

I like the series too. I thought the Doctors estranged wife was Annette O Toole born of American parents.

Esspee Thu 08-Jul-21 23:49:56

Lucca

Rake isn’t cheesy !?

No it’s hilariously funny. I was suggesting it as a follow on from Offspring which I loved.

Esspee Thu 08-Jul-21 23:56:34

Ginny42. Have you watched The Spy? It’s an Israeli mini series which we’ve just finished. It’s based on a true story set in the 1960s.

NanKate Fri 09-Jul-21 06:27:41

Doodle you are right she is Annette O’Tootle nothing to do with Peter O’Toole my mistake.

Ginny42 Fri 09-Jul-21 06:43:13

Oh yes, isn't the Dr's wife annoying? The characters are fairly typical of a community though.

I've watched all 60 episodes of Bolivar and couldn't believe I knew so little about what happened in South America. And yes I checked out the historical detail. It's not for the faint hearted however.

Hence why I enjoy some lighter viewing. I liked Heartland during one lockdown as they were the only family I could have in my home!!

I'm going to check out your recommendations if they're still available.

Aveline Fri 09-Jul-21 09:26:50

Glad it's not just me that finds the doctor's wife irritating!

henetha Fri 09-Jul-21 09:45:15

I love this even though it's not usually my sort of thing.
And yes, one of the characters is annoying,. But there is something about the other actors, the setting, the storyline, that somehow is compelling. It's like a nice hot cup of tea, sort of comforting.

shysal Fri 09-Jul-21 09:58:18

Thanks for the heads-up Kate, I will sign up to Netflix again to watch it as I enjoyed the first 2 series.
