I started watching this half heartedly last night as it has the same small pool of current popular actors and actresses in it, and one of them i am not really keen on. But to my surprise it drew me in. The setting of being underwater in a submarine is different and i am looking forward to the next episode this evening.

Not normally liking this kind of thing, but the start reeled me in like a fish! Have yet to watch the second part, just hoping it's as good as the first and has a good ending..

Silverbridge.
Yes Gentleman Jack, yet another excellent performance from her.

I watched it with my OH, who is a computer scientist. He was annoyed at the simple password used on the laptop and the fact that the pen drive was removed and not ejected! Everything else was fine! I’m enjoying it very much.

Three of the actors were in Dr Foster. Maybe it’s the same director/producer?

I also found sound poor at times... had to rewind to catch words and menacing music at times was irritating. Excellent actors but showed up poor performance of chap who found body on sub.

I heard Shaun Evans talking about it on the radio so have recorded, anyone know if he uses his natural, Liverpool, accent, completly through me on the radio as I am used to his Endeavour/Oxford accent

It was strange as the accent was so different but his voice is distinctive anyway.

A bit annoyed because I stupidly thought it was a two parter and now I have to wait until next Sunday for the next episode!

I wasn't sure if it was supposed to be North East England or not?

He doesn’t sound any different to me in this series than he does in Endeavour (and we watch a lot of Endeavour?!). Agree the sound quality could be better.

Sparklefizz Wed 01-Sept-21 13:32:14

I was trying to think of his name and what he had appeared in, as his voice is distinctive whatever accent he's using. Eventually I googled the list of Vigil cast members.

Nannan2 Wed 01-Sept-21 13:36:20

I'm recording it, so can watch all at once, instead of being on tenterhooks for next episode.I often do that.it saves the 'oh, i cant wait for next one' feeling!

Nannan2 Wed 01-Sept-21 13:38:30

Or, alternatively, if something turns out not as good as its made out to be, i can delete them.?

Nannan2 Wed 01-Sept-21 13:54:33

I hated Suranne Jones in Coronation St, couldn't stand her- but have loved everything else she's done- just goes to show she is a good actress though, as it must have been just the Character of Karen McDonald i couldn't stand!?

Nannan2 Wed 01-Sept-21 14:00:01

I dont watch Endeavour but i did watch Morse though..made no sense to me why make a programme of a character, but back to front.would have been much better to show him as in his younger days first, then as the older, wiser, Morse.would have had a bit of background on him then. They often get Tv series wrong..

Because the TV series Morse was adaopted from the books by Colin Dexter.

The Lewis TV series followed as a sequel and the Endeavour series followed that as a prequel to Morse..

We're both enjoying it too. I read somewhere that she did all her own stunts - brave lady! grin

I do all my own stunts too, but it's not nearly as impressive smile

I am usually confused about details in the narratives of crime dramas including Vigil but I quite like Vigil because of the development of the moral dilemmas.

Hellogirl1 Wed 01-Sept-21 22:04:51

I usually avoid anything featuring Suranne Jones, as I`m not keen on her, but have just watched episode 1 of Vigil, and thought it was very good.

Juliet27 Wed 01-Sept-21 22:18:59

I enjoyed it far more once I added subtitles!

Callistemon Wed 01-Sept-21 22:30:20

Me too, Juliet27

Nandalot Wed 01-Sept-21 22:34:41

Lewie, she does her own stunts! Did she get winched down onto the submarine. It might be feel queasy just watching it!

JaneR185 Wed 01-Sept-21 22:35:35

Love it. A completely different location for murder. Unlikely to happen as all the sub mariners I met in my job (albeit many moons ago) were particularly pleasant, even tempered individuals for obvious reasons.

Petera Mon 06-Sept-21 12:18:07

Can someone explain the boundary between the civil and military police? I.e. is a murder on a military facility normally investigated by the civil police (not that I really care as I'm happy to suspend truth for dramatic reasons)?

Also, with regard to Silva's position on the boat - do police officers not have an equivalent military rank in these situations? I know that Civil Servants do.
