There are three Everly Brothers programmes on BBC 4 tonight beginning at 10:05 pm. The first is a video from 2016, ‘Harmonies From Heaven’, the second is a very good 90 minute long documentary from the BBC Arena series, ‘Songs Of Innocence And Experience’ which was first shown in 1984 and the third is their reunion concert at The Albert Hall which I was lucky enough to attend in 1983. All three will probably be put onto the iPlayer after they have been shown.

Oh, thank you! I wonder if the Arena programme is the one with Alan Yentob? If it is, we recorded it on our Betamax and watched it numerous times.
Thank you
SueDonim yes it was produced by Alan Yentob. I have watched it a few times but it was on video and we don’t have a video player any more. I will be watching again and shedding a few tears now Don is gone.
Thanks for that Jane. Have always been a fan and will record it as it’s way past my bedtime. ...
First saw them in 1963 in London when the Stones at the start of their career were playing too chatted me up, but it was Don and Phil I wanted to see. I last saw them in the late 80s I think and they sounded just as good as ever.
Thank you for this, one of my favourites since the 60s when I heard Ebony Eyes.
Same, Jane*! I think I wore the video tape out. Ive seen them twice, once in Edinburgh and once in Aberdeen. We bumped into them after the show in Aberdeen, while we were going back to our car. They weren’t v impressed with our bracing climate.
I’ve just put all three programmes on to record and was startled to see a warning about ‘strong language’ on one of them! That doesn’t sound very EB-like.
I’ve seen all three programmes and don't remember any strong language. I will pay special attention now!
My mother in law is the cousin of the everly brothers,, she's almosr 90 years old now, I've recorded the shows to take with me to show her when I go back to usa,, she remembers visiting them every year as a child, sitting in the yard with there guitars,,,, all they done was play and sing 24/7
These recordings will be a nice memory for her,
Think I’ve watched them before, but a definite to watch again.
‘Harmonies From Heaven’- was there ever a more appropriate title?

I’m sure she will enjoy the programmes. I don’t know which side your MIL’s cousin if from but the family on their mother’s side are noted for their longevity, their mother Margaret is 102; it must be so sad to outlive both sons. Both their parents were very good looking, no wonder their sons were so handsome.
Well there were two instances of the F word, one from Art Garfunkel and the other from Keith Richards. No big deal these days.
Have recorded but watched most of the first part which I have seen a while ago, but never tired of listening to them.
Hadn’t known of their different political views and can understand that couldn’t have helped their relationship difficulties.
The last time I saw them perform was in a club in Essex and given they had performed in prestigious venues like The Albert Hall it seemed a bit, or a lot, of a comedown though always good to see them wherever.
I think of their mum
Margaret who has outlived husband Ike and her two sons,
They were just completely different characters, not only their political views but the way they lived their lives. Phil was more down to earth and a committed family man whereas Don was a free spirit always looking for the perfect woman. As far as I know he saw very little of his three daughters and one son and although he lived close by his mother he seldom visited her, the fact that she sued him regarding the deeds if the house she lives in didn’t help the relationship. Don was more gifted in the arts and painted and enjoyed cooking whereas Phil enjoyed practical things such as working on the Antebellum house he bought in Tennessee. The venues of the concerts was definitely a come down in some people’s eyes although Don did prefer small, more intimate venues such as The Bitter End in New York and Los Angeles. Phil preferred a larger audience and liked playing in Las Vegas, Don loathed it, another example of their differences. Don wrote a song ‘I’m Tired Of Singing My Song In Las Vegas’. It’s very sad that Phil’s family tried to sue Don for the rights of Cathy’s Clown after Phil’s death, the law suit went on with appeals but was finally settled in favour of Don about a year before his death. Cathy’s Clown was always my favourite song and the dispute over it really cast a shadow over it for me, I haven’t played it for a while.
That’s interesting Jane. I knew some of this but not all,
I had always thought Phil had written Cathys Clown ...
silverlining48 I’ll send you a private message later as it may not be of interest to others. I was a member of a lovely Everly Brothers forum for a few years and found out so much but more importantly made some dear friends here in UK and the USA. There was an archive of thousands of pictures and videos apart from the forum posts. One day we logged on to find it had been closed down without notice at the insistence of Phil’s wife, all those interesting posts, pictures and videos gone. I only had email addresses of two people but lost dear friends in Phildaelphia, Mexico and Germany. That’s another H that has surrounded the Everly story ‘Heartbreak’ and there is a lot of that. When I lost that forum I joined Gransnet.
Looking ? forward to hearing from you Jean,
Not sure where the eyes came from....
I watched all the Everley Brothers programmes the other night. It was just wonderful. I had a crush on Don with his mop of curly hair. So handsome even as he got older !!
I watched the documentary and the Reunion Concert last night. It was such a lovely evening’s viewing. ❤️ I’ll watch the third programme later on.
I think I must have seen them first on their tour after the reunion. It made me think about time has passed by. I remember thinking how old they were (I must have been about 30) and how Don had piled on the pounds. When I watched last night, I suddenly realised that they were both younger than my oldest son is now, and that today, Don’s weight gain wouldn’t cause anyone to blink an eye. That rapport they had between them while singing, the way they look at each other - it made my heart melt.
Didn’t they have hair to die for, too? From the interviews, it looked as though Phil pretty much kept all his into older age. I also loved seeing people from the past, Graham Nash, Albert Lee, the Bryants and so on. Oh, and my smelling salts helped me survive the swear words!
