Anybody else welling up at the handicapped girl with her dolls?
What a lovely, kind and gentle programme.

Harris27 Wed 29-Sept-21 20:32:39

Wonderful tv.

3dognight Wed 29-Sept-21 20:37:57

I have never seen a doll loved so much

Kali2 Wed 29-Sept-21 20:38:12

Yes, absolutely love it (and yes to welling up).

Callistemon Wed 29-Sept-21 20:41:19

Recording it and will look forward to watching it.

We love that programme MayBeMaw. We missed it tonight but will watch it on catch up tomorrow. Yes, a gentle feel-good programme like ‘Gone Fishing’ another of our favourites that’s not really so much about fishing, with Bob Mortimer and Paul Whitehouse. There are some hidden gems in the tv schedules!

GrannyGravy13 Wed 29-Sept-21 20:45:28

One of our favourite programmes, guaranteed to make me cry.

JaneJudge Wed 29-Sept-21 20:46:44

I have missed it tonight, it is a lovely program. If only people paid these people what they were worth in real life.
Will catch up

Such joy from everyone.

It doesn't matter what is taken in to the Repair Shop, they always find someone to restore it to it's former glory. I like the sensitive way that repairs are carried out and the history of the item is preserved rather than making it always look like new again. The restorers are so skilled. I couldn't pick a favourite amongst them. An oasis of calm in a crazy world.

I cannot watch this programme as it was my OH's favourite.

Whitewavemark2 Thu 30-Sept-21 09:02:49

It is filmed at the Weald and Downland museum. Not far from us.

Museum really worth a visit.

Nanna58 Thu 30-Sept-21 09:04:25

Oh Luckygirl, Im really hoping that, with time ; you will be able to watch it again; and that the memories of watching with your OH will comfort and not hurt you ????

GrannyGravy13 Thu 30-Sept-21 09:34:03

Luckygirl

I cannot watch this programme as it was my OH's favourite.

Luckygirl I do hope that one day you can watch this programme and relive good memories of watching with your DH ?

I love the programme but wish more time could be spent showing the repairs being done and less on the owners of the items - crying seems almost obligatory. And when they come to collect their items so many say “I’ve been thinking a lot about Dad/whoever since I brought this in” and refer to handing the thing down to “future generations” that I wonder if a lot of it is scripted.

People do get attached to things though and then want to pass them down. It is what keeps these skilled people in work.

Whitewavemark, one of my friends always says 'take it the repair shop' and I have to keep telling her it's just a program and all these people run their own business ELSEWHERE. She thinks they all rock up there everyday with their fairy lights on

I'd like to take my Teddy Bear to the teddy bear ladies, I'm sure he's appreciate it.?

Luckygirl Fri 01-Oct-21 08:33:12

Nanna58 and GrannyGravy13 - thank you for your kind thoughts - I am getting there.

Witzend Fri 01-Oct-21 08:44:10

Callistemon

I'd like to take my Teddy Bear to the teddy bear ladies, I'm sure he's appreciate it.?

There’s always the Teddy Hospital, Callistemon.

Mine - a present for my first birthday - languished in a drawer for at least ten years after our old dog chewed half his face off when she was a pup.

He eventually went to the Teddy Hospital and came back almost as good as new.

JaneJudge Fri 01-Oct-21 08:47:17

I have a teddy like that Callistemon These are the ladies if you want to contact them

Shrub Fri 01-Oct-21 09:37:41

I get frustrated when you get a brief glimpse of the other interesting projects going on. I want to see them all! I would love to be a conservator.
I find all the emotional stuff too much to be honest, but that’s just me.

JaneJudge Fri 01-Oct-21 09:39:31

Have you all seen this organisation? you can retrain even in retirement to do a craft or skill smile

JaneJudge Fri 01-Oct-21 09:41:26

look at the endangered craft list t's fascinating smile

Germanshepherdsmum Fri 01-Oct-21 09:41:40

Snap, Shrub!

DanniRae Fri 01-Oct-21 10:20:02

Witzend - exactly the same thing happened to my beloved teddy when I was at school. My darling mum, knowing how upset I would be, did a repair job with some yellow, canvas material. I have no idea where she got it from but to this day half Teddy Edward's face is bright yellow!
