Bake Off Boredom

I usually enjoy Bake Off but this week I was bored- is it just me. A review at the weekend said it needed a revamp. I cant think what it needs but it is getting 'stale' in my view. I think I will record it and whizz through. Mary Berry used to give lots of tips which I enjoyed but not so from Prue but I suppose she is more of a gourmet Chef than a cook ?????

It's getting a bit samey. But I still like it. So last night I watched it and Autumn Watch at the same time, flicking from one to the other every few minutes. It's a good thing I live alone as that could drive someone else mad!

I used so enjoy this programme. Now record it, and whizz through.
Do think it would have much more interest if the judges had to also do the challenges. Be interesting to see what they could produce??

I wonder who makes the specimen technical bake. I doubt it is the judge who sets the task.

I read that they have professional bakers making the technical challenge that Pru and Paul taste.

I am still not warming to Bake Off this year. I don’t think I’ll bother to watch it next year, it’s run its course for me.

It's definitely getting a bit tired. Although I think they have a better mix of contestants this year than in some previous years. I missed the WI types and older men but Maggie and Jurgen have brought that element back.
I preferred Mary Berry to Pru. Mary was a proper home Baker whereas Pru is a trained chef.

I did NOT agree with the result!!

Susan56 Tue 23-Nov-21 21:45:17

I didn’t agree either merlotgran!

Bravo Giuseppe !

Mind you I’m not qualified to comment any more than I am for Strictly, my baking being only fractionally less bad than my dancing !!

merlotgran Tue 23-Nov-21 21:50:33

Guiseppe is a very good baker but not the best in the final.

BigBertha1 Tue 23-Nov-21 21:55:42

I am glad it's over . Congrats to Guiseppe but that's it for me. Let's have something new now.

MayBeMaw Tue 23-Nov-21 22:10:02

I thought it absolutely the right result. Giuseppe has been a front runner throughout.
But what on Earth did Prue have round her neck?
It looked as if she had been attacked by a giant spider ???

Susan56 Tue 23-Nov-21 22:20:53

MayBe Maw we thought it looked like she had made her necklace from the red liquorice boot laces!

I loved this series and the different ideas which the bakers brought to their bakes. The winner in the final tonight was a tough call - my family all love the show!

GrandmaKT Tue 23-Nov-21 22:26:10

I was very happy that Guiseppe won. He's been the most consistent good baker throughout. I was disappointed that Jurgen was eliminated in the semi final as he had been so good most weeks.
I am surprised that Noel Fielding hasn't been thumped yet! They are under so much pressure and the last thing they need is him with his inane wittering!

Charleygirl5 Tue 23-Nov-21 22:30:01

Did you notice that Bake Off in Australia is starting on channel 4 very soon? I will not be watching that.

Although Guiseppe has been the most consistent of this evening's three throughout the programme, I did not think he should have won it on tonight's baking.

Deedaa Tue 23-Nov-21 23:37:15

I would have been happy whoever won tonight. Guiseppe has been good throughout but of course the judges have the advantage of being able to taste the bakes. Crystelle's raw focaccia was a shame, I think she might have won if it had worked.

I jut finished watching last year's show, and now they are showing the Canadian version. We have wonderful judges who don't seem intimidating. I do understand that the program gets a bit stale after so many years of the same format.

I agree with not liking the newest host; he seems like a big baby, and not funny. I don't even know why they need two of them. I also agree that the challenges are getting tougher, or more obscure, and the time frame is too tight. They always seem to be icing warm cakes, or the gel hasn't set.

I do like the idea of the show though, and will probably keep watching.

grandMattie Wed 24-Nov-21 06:29:34

I quite like the programme, a change from the “reality “ stuff which I loathe.
I just think that apart from the show stopper, the competitors shouldn’t be allowed to practice. It would be more interesting if they were give a cupboard full of recipe books, a loaded larder and extra time…. Also the “unseens” have become so arcane!

vegansrock Wed 24-Nov-21 06:59:45

Loved Juergen and Giuseppe, glad he won, and that he’s back in Milan with his family. Don’t mind Noel and Matt, it’s Paul Hollywood I find creepy.

I look forward to The Australian version. It starts on Dec 6th on the More4 channel.
I used to love Australian Masterchef, but haven't seen it for a few years, perhaps because of Covid.

Lucca Wed 24-Nov-21 08:13:04

Glad it’s not just me who is a Giuseppe fan!

TerriBull Wed 24-Nov-21 09:01:27

I was glad Giuseppe won, I thought he was consistently the best throughout the series, the other two who also very good too.

I didn't see the final 15 minutes we turned over for WDYTYA, I did think he may have blown it because he seemed to have a massive wobble with his first two efforts. Glad he won, well done Giuseppe cupcake

Book to follow I'm sure.

TerriBull Wed 24-Nov-21 09:02:21

who were

Griselda Wed 24-Nov-21 12:33:28

I liked it better when it didn't try to be a comedy show.

Cold Wed 24-Nov-21 12:45:03

The "comedy" intros are cringeworthy

I hate the "impossible" challenges in the final these days - the old finals used to create beautiful bakes but now it is more "reality show" with insufficient time and no instructions

I really thought that Crystelle had won it ... until she served raw focaccia to Paul Hollywood
