Was looking forward to it but so dissapointed and will not be watching again.

I liked it too. Loved the darling buds of may too. Room for both.

Not sure about this new series. We've been watching the originals and love them. They'll be hard to beat. The actors in this remake just don't seem to have the same charisma. I'll watch it again next week to see if it improves. And it seemed to be excessively colourful - or do I need to adjust my screen settings

It starts on one of the Flemish/Dutch channels in a couple of weeks and was not sure about it. I did not watch the first incarnation so will try a couple of episodes first.

I loved the books. But TV made it too real - Pop was a amoral profiteering spiv, Mariette an unpleasantly cunning little minx tricking her way into marriage...

Yes, Bradley Walsh remains flavour of the month. Suppose I'd better give it a try...

I shan't bother to watch the rest of the series as it felt wrong as it is supposed to be set in 1958 and most of the diverse characters would not have been in a Kent village at that time.

Yes programme makers are getting very PC.We must have actors of colour and disabled actors to.

Depends who plays the part so not always a fan of 'gentle viewing' and never liked the original and not interested in the new version.
For myself the character a celeb plays has to fit into a part and have only enjoyed watching B W as an actor specifically crime series.

I watched this last night (recorded it already)- and no, can't say i loved it- you're all correct about marriette, she is way too old! Are there no good YOUNG lady actors out there, ready for her big break, as Catherine Zeta Jones was in the original?(that did her a world of good!) The young lad playing their son was ok, but i thought in previous show- ' darling buds' they had more boys? In fact, more kids in general than in this new version?And Bradley Walsh is no match for the great David Jason.Ma Larkin was ok, but i won't go out of my way to watch this in future- only if there's nothing else on.Its not 'true to life' as per a coloured tax man in that era either really, in true life there were fewer good job opportunities for the fewer coloured people who were in Britain- and the programme makers couldnt have made a more stark contrast between the two actors if they tried.Also it all seemed a bit forced to be honest, like they were all trying too hard.I didnt realise its been done before the David Jason version on tv as well?- apparently 'The Larkins' was on screen in black & white in 1958- 60 then 2 further series in 1963- 64 with peggy mount &David Kossoff.I dont remember that im not old enough,(wasnt born till 63) but its listed as a 'comedy'- does anyone on here remember it?

Usually love Bradley Walsh and find him natuarally funny and warm with other people. Not so good in 'The Larkins' though. He is much better when not constrained with lines to say. Marrieta is a bit disappointing and looks older than than the character she plays. Easy Sunday viewing but not for me. I find it all a bit suffocating and predictable. Scenery nice but not that nice.

I love Bradley Walsh, he can do no wrong in my eyes but as I've stopped watching TV I can't comment on the remake. However, looking at films and the sequels, none of them are ever as good as the original. The producers always try to outdo previous films with more CGI.

I liked it, just a lovely series for a Sunday night when it's cold and dark outside.

Bradley said its only just got going introducing the characters etc give it time.
It is funny how all phil n holly from itv this morning friends get so much screen time though. Being hollies hubby is a itv producer

Am I the only one that noticed the lack of extras at the village fete? There were only about four people there apart from the cast. I come from a small village where a fete in the fifties was a massive event. Apart from that, it was only ok. Part of me thought it was just nice to watch something than contained no violence or horror. Like often written on my school report, could have done better.

I'm just delighted that they've made a drama that is cheerful and makes me feel happy. I remember the original and don't give a hoot that they've updated it.

I love it and every bit as much as the last series. The food looks great. I'm tempted to make some lovely pies and roasts soon.
