Just watching this.

Another psychological thriller.

Joanne Froggatt playing another abused wife.

Where does she work? I thought she was a veterinary assistant, then I wondered if it was a prison, or a dog rescue centre. Still not sure.

6 episodes, no idea where it’s going.

silversurf Mon 25-Oct-21 12:19:54

She always looks so miserable, even with her children. Perhaps her marriage would have been better if she smiled sometimes.
Not a programme to remember. Very strange plot.

Namsnanny Mon 25-Oct-21 12:51:13

Silversurf..her husband accused her of NOT having a poker face (ie not being able to hide her true feelings) and NOT being able to lie, even for the good of the children when the rabbit was killed for example.
So I wonder if that's all part of the lead up to a twist in her character?
Could she actually be ruthless enough to have killed the fox we see in the first episode because he killed her children's rabbit? Showing the audience ahead of time how she isnt really a victim?

I know I really should take up crosswords, or get out more!!!??

It was obvious what he was up to, couldnt believe any one would fall for it
I felt the same way trisher!
On reflection, I wondered if it was all part of her plan, but to be honest it would be quite far fetched for her to put herself in a police cell and risking losing her children.
I'm probably over thinking itblush

As for Angela Meyers and Edgewere I missed that completely calendergirl? I might go back and watch again on catch up.
Any excuse to get on with my knitting ?

What about running all the way across the road to the neighbours? Seemed an odd choice when there are houses closer.

Calendargirl Mon 25-Oct-21 13:28:47

Yes, it seemed strange she went across to some neighbour who she obviously didn’t know from Adam. Floating about in a strappy nightie, must have been a warm night. And the police just let her back to her house, and they soon cleared off.

So Olivier is Dutch? I wonder why she married him, they seem to have no affection for each other.

Another 3 episodes to go. What will happen? confused

(I see Joanne Froggatt is one of the executive producers)

Doodledog Mon 25-Oct-21 14:27:55

Yes, these days everyone has a mobile, and many people don't have working landlines, so running to the neighbour in order to call the police seemed an odd thing to do, unless someone wanted a witness.

I'm wondering if they are in it together somehow. Or the husband and the PI setting her up together.

I enjoyed Episode 1, thought 2 was ok, just watched 3 and that's it. What a load of ....! Three hours wasted but no more. At least I can enjoy Shetland.

grannyrebel7 Wed 27-Oct-21 14:18:02

This programme is interminably slow. Makes me want to scream when she takes so long to answer. Episode 3 was a bit stupid if you ask me. Won't say anymore in case people still haven't seen it.

Sweetpeasue Wed 27-Oct-21 15:53:32

Watched first 2 episodes. Didn't want to waste time sticking with it. Very disappointing.

AcornFairy Tue 02-Nov-21 12:09:22

Episode 4 changed pace and I'm now hooked. The crying baby touched a raw nerve .....

Calendargirl Sun 07-Nov-21 22:04:27

Am I the only one still watching this rubbish? But it has a weird fascination. What does she live on? She still drives a big car, so I assume nasty hubby is still giving her an allowance?

Think next week might be the final episode, hopefully. My money is on Olivier coming to a sticky end somehow.

trisher Sun 07-Nov-21 22:17:20

He's cut her loose financially. I still don't understand why she isn't divorcing him
I agree about the weird fascination-absolutely unlikely but somehow watchable.

Bridie22 Sun 07-Nov-21 22:37:31

Still watching... its got me intrigued, looking forward to next week.

merlotgran Sun 07-Nov-21 23:15:58

I’m so confused I don’t know why I’m still watching it.

BlueBelle Mon 08-Nov-21 06:43:30

For a change I don’t find it confusing I think it’s all coming together nicely as it finishes next week I wonder if he ll get his comeuppance

Allsorts Mon 08-Nov-21 07:02:21

I have stuck with it, but I find Joanne Froggatt extremely annoying. I don’t think she’s a good actress, her face overdoes the angst, she hardly opens her mouth when she speaks and then the words seem to be dragged from her. She makes no attempt at normal conversation even at work. There’s no warmth there. You would be a very mixed up child living with such cold undemonstrative parents, yet I am still watching. Running over the road in a immaculate silk nightie to the furthest house was ridiculous.

seacliff Mon 08-Nov-21 07:15:36

I agree Allsorts. Unusual for me to dislike an actor, it's normally judged on the part they're playing.

Kandinsky Mon 08-Nov-21 07:16:05

It would be better if a better actress was playing the lead role.
Joanne Froggatt is not convincing at all and has zero personality. I just don’t care enough about her to enjoy the program if that makes sense.
The husband is very believable though.

Calmlocket Mon 08-Nov-21 07:19:38

@ allsorts, she is being mentally and physically abused by her husband, she is on autopilot and going through the motions.

Gingster Mon 08-Nov-21 07:25:03

Yes I’m another still watching. I agree Joanne Frogatte is a poor actress - yet she has been in a lot of dramas. Very wooden !

SuzieHi Mon 08-Nov-21 08:59:31

1 quite like Joanne as an actress. She comes over to me as a composed, thoughtful and quiet person in this drama. Personally can’t bear over acting - lots seem to too much screaming and shouting these days. Horrible husband. No idea why she married him? His success /power/ money?
Attempt at drowning baby was awful- was it because she was so mentally screwed up with post natal depression?
Not sure how will it end?
PS Husband declared it stupid from episode 1 & is not watching!

Calendargirl Mon 08-Nov-21 09:03:41

Do you think things will get explained in the final episode?

That job at the dog rescue centre, obviously letting that aggressive dog loose was a parallel with her own life?

The squashed rabbit on the drive?

Why DH has never bought her a dishwasher, even though they live in a big posh house?

How she managed to put everything away in the filing cabinets, dash upstairs and hide those bulky papers somewhere in her jeans in the short time it took her husband to walk away from the front door and the policeman?

Figure out who this mysterious friend is from years back who she thought was having an affair with husband?

I could go on…..

Cabbie21 Mon 08-Nov-21 10:00:28

I feel I have wasted so many hours on this that I must get to the end. So many unrealistic situations. I hope it ends well.

I didnt think anything was unrealistic, the husband had messed with her head through his abusive behaviour toward her. Half the time she doesnt know if she is coming or going.

BlueBelle Mon 08-Nov-21 10:16:39

I don’t agree with you Joanne Fogett haters she’s one of my favourites actresses I think she’s playing the part of an abused woman well, she’s mentally and physically pounded stripped of her own abilities to judge a situation !! She’s hammered into the ground and in a great big fog of who to believe who not to believe couple that with losing her boys to a man she knows as a monster Oh come on what do you want her to do
I m much to lost in the story to worry about how she found the papers or where she hid them I would have probably put them in my bra I think you are all looking for picky faults and not seeing the story as a whole

timetogo2016 Mon 08-Nov-21 10:18:43

She was in Coronation Street years ago,and she hasn`t changed much,a very good actress.

On the other hand she's capable of pretending she is mentally ill and has recovered (to please the psychiatrist), researching and finding the man who set her up, pinching papers from her husband's files and concealing them in minutes, oh and asking for the CCTV coverage from a garage. IT's not the acting that's bad it's the character that's unbelievable.
The scene with the policeman was a bit unbelievable as well. I don't believe the police would have sent anyone she would have needed a solicitor or a friend to accompany her. He hasn't after all had any charges brought against him.
