Sparklefizz - I'm enjoying Shetland, but I wish Jimmy would have a shave and wear something other than a collar-less T shirt or jumper. He would look much more appealing in a shirt with the sleeves rolled up ;)
You will have enjoyed the polo-shirt in the interview scenes then

The Long Call and Shetland.
(135 Posts)Haven’t seen any posts about either of these since they aired.
Gave up on TLC after two episodes, have read the book but found it rather dreary, couldn’t remember the outcome and didn’t really care. Matthew Venn is no Jimmy Perez, but Jimmy looks a bit jowly and could do with a shave. I know he has a lot on his plate though, with murders, bereavement and a dad with dementia.
Unless it's relevant to the present story in some way, I'm finding it an unnecessary diversion/red herring which just adds another complication to an already complicated storyline.
I’ve just found this
Lizzie Kilmuir found out about Donna and Duncan's affair, that she was pregnant with Duncan's child, and planned to tell Kevin. In a shocking police interview, Donna confesses to killing Lizzie in fear of what Kevin would do to her and her unborn child: "I didn't know what else to do!

I think this is the answer...
The evil Donna Killick
Donna Killick (Fiona Bell) is the hidden villainess of the sixth season of BBC's shetland
Donna was the head of an animal sanctuary and the mother of Alan Killick, who worked with her at the sanctuary. Her backstory revealed that her husband Kevin (who died prior to the episode's events) was abusive to her, which led her to have an affair with Duncan Hunter; the father of DI Jimmy Perez's stepdaughter Cassie.
The series began with Thomas Malone being released from prison for the murder of Lizzie Kilmuir, having served a twenty-three year prison sentence after proclaiming his innocence. Soon afterwards, though, journalist Sally McColl (and daughter of Donna's lover, former police officer Drew McColl) was found murdered in a similar fashion to Lizzie: strangled to death and found in a kiln. Sally was Alan's girlfriend, and while Donna initially appeared upset by Sally's death, she was later revealed to have been disapproving of Alan's relationship with her (much to Alan's frustration).
Over the course of Jimmy's investigation, Kevin was believed to be Lizzie's killer after familial DNA of Alan's was found on the scarf used to strangle her. The speculation left Donna irate, especially when Jimmy had her husband's body exhumed to determine if he was the killer. Donna also grew disapproving of Alan spending time with and offering sanctuary work to Cassie, putting her at odds with her son. After uncovering old footage of a beach party Lizzie attended, Jimmy learned about Donna's affair with Duncan and made a shocking realization: Alan was a product of the illicit relationship, thus making him Cassie's half-brother.
Thanks for that info - I’ll have to read again veerrry slowly as I can’t seem to make head or tail at the moment!! Brain fog!
Thank you, Eviebeanz
I do have a recollection of it now.
I'll read that again (about three times) ? to refresh my memory.

I'm trying to remember if it was in an earlier series.
If it was a previous storyline and was supposedly 18 years ago, they have all aged remarkably well.

Can anyone explain why the woman who’s been released from prison killed the girl?
Ooh, glad you asked that - I wanted to know that too! Did we miss the details in an early episode or is it a storyline from a previous series?

Having just read Raven Black, first of Shetland series, I tried to get the original tv series on catch up and other streaming services but couldn't. So, bit the bullet and bought first 5 series on Amazon. Looking forward now to a binge fest. The info on the dvds says that only the first 4 stories are based on the books. After that each series of 6 episodes is just based on the characters.
Read The Long Call, a bit disappointed with the tv version. Found the way Matthew Venn was played was a bit wooden. Seemed to lack any personality, but to be honest he didn't have much in the book either.
eazybee I had to check out who Sandy was too ?
I am truly shocked at you both!
Truly!!! ?
Eloethan you’re not alone I asked my daughter very sharp minded how she was enjoying it and she said it’s quite muddling too many characters

Eloethan join the club but please remember how brains are as sharp as knives-it is the writers who let us down.
I usually enjoy Shetland and, of course, the scenery is beautiful. But I have found the latest series slightly dull and rather confusing (but then I find quite a few TV plots confusing these days!).
Tosh's boyfriend could be the leak, though, or have I missed something?
Yes, I wondered that. I can't believe it's Sandy.

*I'm getting rather annoyed because the script is making him out to be rather less than competent*
From memory, I think the AC books make Sandy out to be a bit lazy and less than competent. Tosh is great isn't she.
I have some books downloaded on my Kindle but haven't read them yet.
Oh dear, I like Sandy!

?
Don’t think Tosh was in the books was she?
I think this series is not very interesting because poor Jimmy has no love interest, apart from the ‘nun’ character.

Yes.
Who is Sandy?
Sandy is the Detective Constable, the one who got injured and ended up in hospital.
I'm getting rather annoyed because the script is making him out to be rather less than competent whereas Tosh, now Detective Sergeant, is very much the favoured detective.
Interestingly, I think that Steven Robertson who plays Sandy, was born and brought up in the Shetland Isles.
I’m sure I read somewhere that Shetland is no longer based on any of AC’s actual books but just the characters
Yes I think all her books have been finished, and this story (and possibly the previous) are not hers.
We too are rather confused by the story, and it seems to include a back story that we either don't know or have forgotten.
I’m sure I read somewhere that Shetland is no longer based on any of AC’s actual books but just the characters. Maybe that explains it not being as good as it was? I know she’s not writing any more books in the Shetland series, The Long Call is her latest series. She says she’s happy to continue writing the Vera books.
Glad I'm not on my own with being discombobulated by Shetland.
I know I dozed off last night but I have literally lost the plot. I thought the previous series were better and easier to follow for the (dim) me!
Sparklefizz
I am befuddled by this series of Shetland. Is it just me? It doesn't seem nearly as good as previous series.
Thank goodness thought it was just me. No idea who's who!
Sandy is Jimmy’s sidekick.
(Isn’t he?)
