Was that it? I watched the thing for 3 whole hours and that was it? If there's one thing I hate it's a wishy washy ending where it seems the writer can't make up their minds which way to go. I'll bear this in mind next time I'm tempted to watch drama on ITV

We thought it went flat at the end too. We watched all three at once.

May I just politely ask why would you go on a thread about a programme that’s finished, but you haven’t watched ??
Surely it’s not up to people on here to not talk about it but up those who haven’t finished it to not read !!

Anyway I thoroughly enjoyed it and thought it’s left well open for a new series

I know what I have done and should have been done with that phone! Sorry to be so cryptic but I do not want to spoil it for others.

Good point BlueBelle.
Can we now discuss the ending? How did everyone interpret it?

Lots of loose ends and that’s all I’m saying. I enjoyed it but was left wondering.

This was the first of 3 books, assuming they have a second series, this the second book

October 1987: the morning after the Great Storm. Fifteen-year-old Tania Mills walks out her front door and disappears. Twenty-seven years later her mother still prays for her return. DS Sarah Collins in the Met's Homicide Command is determined to find out what happened, but is soon pulled into a shocking new case and must once again work with a troubled young police officer from her past, Lizzie Griffiths.

PC Lizzie Griffiths, now a training detective, is working in the Domestic Violence Unit, known by cops as the 'murder prevention squad'. Called to an incident of domestic violence, she encounters a vicious, volatile man - and a woman too frightened to ask for help. Soon Lizzie finds herself drawn into the centre of the investigation as she fights to protect a mother and daughter in peril.

As both cases unfold, Sarah and Lizzie must survive the dangerous territory where love and violence meet.

So, if we’re allowed to discuss it now……. who pushed who off the roof then? Why was it left open with the wife having the phone in her bag? Why did the fat policeman have the stuff under his nails if there wasn’t any contact between him and the girl? Where did the scratches on the girl come from? Why was the policewoman told to lie? Anyone?

I purposely avoid threads on a programme until I've watched it all, as I assume there may well be spoilers.

I really enjoyed it, but there were questions at the end. I felt there should be another series that followed on, and answered some off it. Why did wife keep phone, what will she do with it.

BigBertha1 Sat 13-Nov-21 06:49:55

I images ne the inspectors wife regards the phone she has kept which she said she had destroyed as her insurance policy

Curlywhirly Sat 13-Nov-21 08:43:03

Unless the story carries on in a future series, the ending was awful. Why did the wife keep the phone and what is she going to do with it? Lizzie getting away with lying - even though the detective knew all about it - where's AC12 and Ted Hastings when you need them!

I agree with BigBertha that the wife knew her husband was having an affair, and has decided to keep the phone in case it comes in handy as a useful bargaining tool. (or maybe it's been left open for another series?)

Secondly, the policewoman, Lizzie, said she tried to grab the girl, and so did the fat policeman - hence the girl's skin under his nails and the scratches on her arm. I think Lizzie said that actually she felt that she pushed the girl off because if she hadn't tried to grab her, she and the fat policeman might not have fallen, but ............

While she, Lizzie, was in the cell, someone took her a cup of tea. We didn't see who it was, but the window flap was opened and she stood up and smiled.

Later it was said that the detective named Steve (with the beard) who had spoken to her earlier about lying to save her career, had been the person who took her a cup of tea and that he had "coached" her in what to say about the fat policeman trying to save the girl, not push her, thereby making the whole situation a terrible accident.

Yes, a vague ending curly "Jesus, Mary and Joseph and the wee donkey" [grin}

I do enjoy Agatha C type crime where everything is nearly wrapped up, but life isn't like that and I thought the ending of The Tower was realistic. A reasonable explanation of what had occurred but with a few loose threads. Just like life.
