I'm watching a really interesting (and sad) programme about the man, the music, and the attitude to AIDS, back when it was first known about.

If anyone gets the chance to watch it on catch up or something, I can recommend it.

I always drive long distance with his cds, especially to and from England. Always did when, as a family, drove down to the Alpes to ski. Once we were in the middle of nowhere in China and the driver asked if he could put his cd on, he added that we probably didn’t know it. We burst out laughing when we heard Queen. Daughters even sang in Beijing at the French embassy 1998 ‘We are the champions’. Such a part of my life.

We are the champions was played at my mums funeral.

I so sorry to bring back such sad memories missadventure

They're not really sad.
It was rather atmospheric, actually.
The vicar spoke over the top of the music at first, then faded his voice away and let the wonderful Mr. Mercury take over.
Mum would have loved it.

I've been watching all evening - so sad, AIDS the pandemic or epidemic of the time.

Such a lovely clever talented man
I was surprised to see his sister and as she hummed to his music she certainly hadn’t followed in his musical talent
What upsets me is that only a few years on they had managed to find a cure if only it had been in time for Freddy

MissAdventure Sat 27-Nov-21 23:02:59

It always strikes me how much his bandmates really loved him.

MissAdventure Sat 27-Nov-21 23:05:14

Wow!
Couldn't they play!!!!
Amazing.

SueDonim Sat 27-Nov-21 23:07:06

Thanks, MissAdventure.

I remember an interview with Freddie in the early 80’s. He was asked what he thought he’d be doing when he was 60. ‘Sixty, darling? I shall be dead by the time I’m sixty!’ I wonder if he already knew? ?

Amazing.

Yes, brilliant!

I think I saw a programme where it said he had the attitude that by the time aids was known about, Freddie already realised that he was at risk, as of course, nobody had known about it, and he had been a real free spirit.

MissAdventure Sat 27-Nov-21 23:11:36

And that may have been in a "longest sentence" competition. grin

MissAdventure Sat 27-Nov-21 23:13:14

Oh they did like their trousers tight in those days.
I shall end up with bloodshot eyes! blush

Calistemon Sat 27-Nov-21 23:17:56

Who'd have thought Brian would be so sensible now
?

MissAdventure Sat 27-Nov-21 23:23:03

It comes to us all in the end. wink

Calistemon Sat 27-Nov-21 23:24:39

Speak for yourself ?

Bluebelle I thought the same and smiled at Freddies sister's singing. They don't look or sound alike, but it was nice to see her and I hadn't seen her before.

Freddie was so talented, one in a million, for sure.

Fabulous Freddie he is so missed,

We also enjoyed the programs last night.
My brother was at Reading University in the late 60’s and he saw Queen perform one of their first live concerts there. He said they were not very good! I think Brian May was still studying at Imperial College then.

Urmstongran Sun 28-Nov-21 08:39:59

He was the ultimate showman. We saw him in one of Queen’s last concerts at the old Man City ground Maine Road. Status Quo were the support band.

Amazing man and band. We had them play at Uni the year before they really took off. The Student Union paid them £40 for the gig.
They were really friendly, chatting in the bar after the first set. Little did we all know!

Jaxjacky Sun 28-Nov-21 09:35:41

I saw them in May ‘77 in Southampton.
Also went to the tribute in 92, I’ve still got the ticket and programme.
David Bowie and Annie Lennox singing Under Pressure gave me goosebumps then and still does now.
Freddie was a one off, unique. The programme last night was sad, but interesting too, a piece of history.

I absolutely adored Freddie and loved all Queen music.
No one can ever take his place, even though I do like the way Adam Lambert sings those Queen songs.
I think they are touring next year (Covid permitting) but I expect the availability and ticket prices are beyond me.
