Hello
I’m not really a ‘feel good’ movie type; in fact I’m not even really a movie type.
However, DH is in desperate need of chivvying / cheering.
I know that I can rely on you… thanks

Wonderful Life, reminds me of my lovely dad, he looked just like Jimmy. Paddington, love him, The Minions make me feel happy, Dirty Dancing. Mister Tom but it makes me cry.

What about The Sting with Paul Newman and Robert Redford? One of the best films ever I think. Your husband will love it, there is no romance just a very clever heist.

^National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation' will be on at some point. Chevy Chase is just brilliantly funny so DH couldn't fail to laugh at that.

Footloose? Maybe not everyone's cup of tea but it does get the toes tapping!

We recently watched "The Last Bus" with the brilliant Timothy Spall, he plays an old man who travels from John o Groats to Lands End using his bus pass on public transport, he has lots of "interesting" encounters on the way. I won't give anything away but I can highly recommend it, just have the hankies ready for the end.

We both love Tim Spall; but anything that requires hankies (I can guess at the ending) is an absolute no - no.
As for ‘Goodnight Mr Tom’, I could probably recite it word for word! (it’s a Year 5 / 6 text)
Thank you everyone smile

Sago

Planes,trains and automobiles

An absolutely hilarious corker of a film Sago!
We watched it for the first time last Christmas, and I’m saving it for a proper Baileys and party food festive feast this year.

Esio Trot is a delightful film.

Parenthood - with Steve Martin

The Apartment starring Jack Lemon and Shirley MacLaine. Can't remember how many times I've watched this film, but if it is on again over Christmas I will be tuning in for another viewing

FannyCornforth, I would still recommend "The Last Bus" it's not a "sob yer heart out" sad ending but a heartwarming, brings tears to your eyes ending.
If you want laughs you can't beat "Airplane" not PC now but still very funny.

FannyCornforth Sat 18-Dec-21 09:30:21

Oh, ok, thanks Daisy (I take it then that he doesn’t die in the film?)
Airplane is a good shout.
Sachabel I love The Apartment.
Shirley McClaine is just a delight. I love her in everything.
Chesnut I don’t think that either of us have seen The Sting; so that’s a great idea.

Little Miss Sunshine.

Over and over again???

TillyTrotter Sat 18-Dec-21 10:15:51

Your DH may like “Cocoon” , a 1985 film.
Super actors in it e.g. Jessica Tandy, Don Ameche.
It’s difficult to recommend for other people though, isn’t it?

DiscoDancer1975 Sat 18-Dec-21 10:18:44

The Office Christmas Party...with Jennifer Anniston and Jason Bateman. Adult humour, but side splittingingly funny.

DiscoDancer1975 Sat 18-Dec-21 10:24:43

Also:
Planes, trains and automobiles...John Candy, Steve Martin.
Mouse hunt.
Horrible Bosses.
National Lampoon vacation...the sequel. The son is grown up, and takes his family to Wallyworld. We thought it funnier than the original. ???

MiniMoon Sat 18-Dec-21 10:36:08

Family movie, The Santa Clause is a good one.
Bringing up Baby and My Favourite Wife are both on BBC iplayer if you like a good Cary Grant comedy.
Mary Poppins Returns (don't dismiss it as a children's film.)

And you can't go wrong with The Sound of Music. smile

Ailidh Sat 18-Dec-21 10:51:38

Galaxy Quest. On this Christmas.

I've watched it so often I know every lìne but every time I watch the final scene my heart melts at the cast of the spaceship saluting the young fan in the audience who has saved the day.
I was a teenage Trekkie, and would have given my all back in the 70s for similar recognition from Capt. Kirk and Mr. Spock.

Chestnut Sat 18-Dec-21 11:18:05

If you can find The Riff Raff Element it is absolutely brilliant. Poor family come to live on the estate of a aristocratic but impoverished family. It's a comedy but with huge depth and great characters. It's from 1993 and I don't know why they haven't brought it back. 12 episodes.
You Tube Trailer
I bought it on DVD recently because I longed to see it again.
