‘Feel Good’ Films: Please Help!?

poshpaws Gregory’s Girl is one of my all time greats.
It captures 1980s secondary school perfectly. I was a bit younger than the actors it.
The bit where Gregory is running in front of his Dad’s car always made my mom laugh as he reminded her of me (no common sense and ridiculous).
I can’t remember who suggested Singin’ in the Rain; that’s another of my top five. Donald O’Connor is a genius

Loved Virgin River on Netflix, also a Place to Call Home. Hitch is one of my all time fave feel good films.

Today at 3.50 BBC2 South Pacific ((1958) I loved this when I was younger, some wonderful songs and I can’t wait to see if it still makes me cry

Agree, if you can get A Place to Call Home it is the best series EVER!! You can't beat it. Wonderful storylines, great characters, beautiful sets and costumes, it is perfection and worth every penny.

Carousel is on BBC 2 at the moment. I saw the updated version in Regents Park open air theatre in August. It was excellent.

Where did you see this? Have tried Iplayer and Netflix, but no luck.

If your husband needs serious spiritual hope, I recommend "An Inspector Calls."

If on the other hand he needs cheery entertaining I recommend "The Bishop's Wife".

'The Holiday' has been recommended by several GNetters. I notice that will be on ITV at 11pm om Thursday 23rd, and also on ITV2 at 8pm on Friday 24th.

Caleo I absolutely adore An Inspector Calls. I watch it / listen to it at every opportunity (never read it though )

It’s got brilliant reviews. Thanks Chesnut. DH likes stuff like that, he’s actually got quite ‘feminine ‘ tastes in TV, eg he loves Catherine Cookson.

You'll love it Fanny. Set in Australia after the war so mostly 1950's but the first episode is on board a ship. About a rich family, the house is to die for, the clothes and cars too! It is a treat for your senses. Ha ha.

Not a film, but we’re really enjoying Clarkson’s Farm.
And my father is obsessed with Gone Fishing with Bob and Paul.
(I think that he may have a crush on Paul Whitehouse)

If “Gregory’s Girl” is your favourite - would MrC enjoy “Sunshine On Leith” with the Proclaimer’s songs? Made more recently but still a delightful Scottish film with a worthwhile story.

BTW sorry if it’s already mentioned upthread - I have not read all 7 pages of it.

Goodness me, who suggested The Last Bus on this thread I cried nearly all the way through it! (it is a good film though)
