Anyone else watch this last night BBC1, 9pm?

Thought it quite intriguing, it’s on over 4 nights, but suspect like so many other similar dramas, may descend into farce.

I watched it and will watch the next episode too.
For those on GN who found it hard to distinguish between the actors, the reason is because that’s part of the plot line

HannahLoisLuke Tue 21-Dec-21 11:20:27

I’ve recorded it but having read some of the comments I might not watch it.

Love a good thriller. But lost interest after 15 mins. Can't imagine anyone being prepared to live like that. Thought the house was unwelcoming and cold.

But the women came for their own reasons, both getting away from trauma ( I think the rent was very cheap)grin

I get them mixed up too, they look the same to me (i am face blind ) and wondered if it’s just one actor with different clothes to give a clue.

I watched it last night with my DD we both thought it was good, but we had worked out some of the plot by series 3.

Bazza Tue 21-Dec-21 12:31:12

Silverlining I have face blindness too, and if it wasn’t for my husband telling me which girl was which I’d have given up. I also thought the house was looked cold and unwelcoming. I certainly couldn’t live like that.

I’ve read the book!

Woman rents scary house and goes to bed with creepy man because she was raped. Really?

soozieee Tue 21-Dec-21 12:49:56

I’ve read the book, it’s really good.

.No doubt will appeal to many viewers.

Ouch. "One person took to Twitter, writing: "Binge-watched #TheGirlBefore. The plot got more and more unbelievable, the characters were sterile and I cannot understand why any woman would have remained in the house when they were warned by blatant facts and friends." @silverlining48 - There are 2 different actors in the drama. I saw an interview with one of them who said her young daughter thought the other actor was her mum when she saw a clip. A key theme is the strong resemblance between the tenants and the architect's deceased wife. I enjoyed the book but suggest we need to 'suspend our disbelief' to appreciate both the book and the drama which is true to my own memories of the book.

Thanks for your feedback on what I and many other viewers have been watching, ' in my case (without a clue), as to what the----it's all about?.

Agree - The two women are confusing. The "lovely" house seems so dark and doesn't seem to be shown off to its full potential - it could have saved this drama.
Curiosity has got me now but glad there's just two more episodes.

GillT57 Tue 21-Dec-21 14:23:45

I enjoyed the book and so far, two episodes in, I am enjoying the tv adaptation although I agree that it is often difficult to tell the actors apart, but.....that is part of the plot. The two female actors both look very like his dead wife, they both have suffered trauma and are vulnerable and looking for a big change in their lives. I agree that the house is too sterile for me though!

I couldn't live in a house where there is no real garden. I did wonder how the fox got in. Also no books, no magazines allowed. I suppose one could read on your laptop?

maryelizabethsadler Tue 21-Dec-21 15:45:30

I watched one-and-a-half episodes and gave up. Thought it was way too dreary and far-fetched. We struggled a bit at first with the Emma and Si and the Jane characters and finally resorted to shouting out 'Emma!' 'Jane' as appropriate!!! Shan't be watching any more... I need quality escapism at the moment...

mrswoo Tue 21-Dec-21 15:46:33

DH and I have watched the first two episodes and have quite enjoyed them. Mind you, we both agree that no one in their right mind would rent such an unwelcoming flat with all the rules and regulations. Like others, I tend to get the two women mixed-up but I guess you are meant to. I shall certainly be watching the final two episodes - just hope it doesn’t descend into farce.

I enjoy watching the unusual/the this is different/ the leaves me guessing, but this after only two nights viewing had me thinking what the .... is this all about ?

Daisend1 Tue 21-Dec-21 17:14:51

Not unusual for foxes to inhabit suburban areas, looking for food, whether they will enter a property is another matter.

Mummer Tue 21-Dec-21 17:19:31

Well!! The very best one I've seen in last year was vBehind her Eyes" with Bono's daughter playing main character. Simply brilliant and even though clues were there, we didn't realise u til the very end what it was all about? If you've not seen it do try to watch.brilliant storytelling and execution of a true mystery!

silverlining48 Tue 21-Dec-21 19:17:23

My dd has highly recommended Behind her Eyes too, it’s next on my list.

Greciangirl Tue 21-Dec-21 19:21:11

I liked it.
It’s different and makes you think.
Not difficult to work out, is it?

Looking forward to tonight’s episode.

trisher Wed 22-Dec-21 09:47:44

I thought the fox was a clue that there is another way in to the garden (and perhaps the house?). Interesting twists although I thought the police incompetence on the date of the mobile film was a bit unlikely.

henetha Wed 22-Dec-21 09:52:29

Surprisingly I am still enjoying it.
