Anyone watching this new drama?

I’m a bit underwhelmed so far, but will probably liven up.

maddyone Mon 24-Jan-22 10:51:26

Would have been too flat - sorry, predictive text!

Liz46 that’s exactly what my DH said. We both thought it stretched credibility a lot, but hopefully it will get better. Sadly, I’d hazard a guess that it was the young coloured policeman whose arm was lying on the ground, not Adrian Lester’s☹️

Yes, I thought it might be him, as he seemed to be having a few ‘issues’ also.

Not overawed given how it was cranked up, I won't say I can hardly wait until next week, because I can easily, but will continue watching it to see how it pans out and who survived the bomb blast.

Personally I've become completely underwhelmed by the last Line of Duty I think it's run out of steam with the interminable who the hell is "H". I'm almost of the opinion this latest series is perhaps too similar. The last time I really enjoyed that was when Thandie Newton did a stint in it a couple of series ago.

I know what other posters mean as it was a bit slow starting, but actually I enjoyed it. I had a feeling that there was going to be another bomb that went off at the end otherwise it would never been too flat.

We all knew that, so how come an experienced Bomb Squad officer didn't!?

I did feel that this wasn't really an appropriate programme with so many people still grieving after recent atrocities here.

Wasn't the first episode of Line of Duty all about Steve's op going wrong, and someone lying? And then Steve meets Hastings, and AC12 becomes the focus. Kate seems almost peripheral. We meet the baddie. Nothing made sense.

First episodes of anything are rarely indicative of how good the series will be.

We saw the tattoo on Adrian Lester's arm, and it was the same (I think) as the one on the arm at the end, but when the rookie had been onscreen for a couple of minutes I said to Mr Dog that he was doomed?. Maybe the tattoo was similar, or Maybe AL will be alive and come in as a remote advisor when Lana got off to defuse bombs elsewhere?

I'm willing to give it another couple of episodes before making my mind up.

GrannyGravy13 Mon 24-Jan-22 12:21:37

We were considerably underwhelmed.

Barmeyoldbat Mon 24-Jan-22 12:54:14

Didn’t enjoy it one bit, but will continue to watch a few more to see if it improves

grannysyb Mon 24-Jan-22 13:13:54

Why weren't they wearing head torches on their helmets? Adrian Lester put his hand held torch in his mouth at one point!!

Rosalyn69 Mon 24-Jan-22 13:22:56

Dreadful.
My husband made the same remark about torches.
Badly scripted and badly acted.
We will not be watching any more episodes.

Kim19 Mon 24-Jan-22 16:38:17

Found the light switch move completely unconvincing. Ridiculous in fact. Pleased AL sussed the van to give it slightly more credibility. Will try next episode as decider.

Atqui Mon 24-Jan-22 21:37:53

Given that Adrian was standing. Ybthe van when the Bonn went off I don’t think he survived ! !
Bet no one else’ s husband laughed most of the way through !

Atqui Mon 24-Jan-22 21:38:10

Typos sorry

Atqui Mon 24-Jan-22 21:40:09

Need a second sitting room so I can watch rubbish tv in peace

Think the trouble is that the ad breaks spoil the atmosphere . Do hope Adrian Lester isn’t out already.

That is why we do not watch any programmes with adds live . You save so much time just zooming past them .

Callistemon21 Mon 24-Jan-22 21:45:46

It's all so dismal lately!

That awful programme with awful Maxine Peake and the lovely Rakhee Thakrar on BBC1 (Rules of the Game)
The Tourist was weird
Trigger Point
Now The Responder - equally awful

Need a second sitting room so I can watch rubbish tv in peace
Or to get away from the violent rubbish on all channels.

Atqui Mon 24-Jan-22 21:54:33

Sky has a costume drama tomorrow likened to Downton . Let’s hope that’s a bit of light entertainment !

Callistemon21 Mon 24-Jan-22 22:21:36

We haven't got Sky.

I don’t like her either, even though everyone raves about her acting.

Eloethan Tue 25-Jan-22 23:09:44

I have been a great fan of Mercurio but wasn't very impressed with this - very much more of the same. However, I did jump at the final scene - and so did my dog!

Callistemon21 Tue 25-Jan-22 23:32:43

I didn't jump because it was so predictable.

Callistemon21 Tue 25-Jan-22 23:33:33

Hope the dog has recovered Eloethan ?
And you of course)

Calendargirl Wed 26-Jan-22 06:52:11

This wasn’t written by Jed Mercurio, just part of his production portfolio I think.

He may have been one of the producers.

I agree Callistemon, everything has become so violent and loud.
As for Maxine Peake I find her difficult to watch after she agreed to play Myra Hindley. I didn’t watch the programme but dislike her for agreeing to give such an evil woman any publicity.

Callistemon21 Wed 26-Jan-22 14:33:27

I don't know why such evil and violence is considered entertainment. Other posters disagree and think we should be shown how other people live - well I prefer factual documentaries to show me that.

I prefer a nice episode of Death in Paradise for escapism!

Even the scenery in the Tourist wasn't the best Australia has to offer grin
