The Staircase on Netflix

NanKate recommended The Staircase to me last year and I have just got round to watching it.

What a gripping drama.... and it is real life. Mike Peterson invited Netflix to make a documentary of what was leading up to his court appearance accused of the murder of his wife in the USA. It's a lot of episodes (I am on ep 10 at the moment)

It's been a revelation seeing how far his defence lawyers have been prepared to go to defend him. Incredible! He is/was a wealthy man and must have spent an absolute fortune.

I won't give a spoiler, but it made me think about both Ghislaine Maxwell's court appearance and how much she must have spent on her defence, and also Prince Andrew when his time comes.

I recommend it.

I watched it a while ago, very good. I changed my mind about him so many times. There was also a Podcast and a book about the case.

Beautifully presented case study, that is informative both on the science and evidence-gathering (explaining how the injuries came to be, how it could not be an assault and battery when at a first and superficial glance it might appear to be), and the theory and practicality that goes behind building a defense strategy and how to pair an argument that combines logic and narrative.

Making A Murderer on Netflix is also good, there is a second series but not much had happened since the first series was made.
