I am sitting, having my lunch and watching the Opening Ceremony of the Winter Olympics. I am a sucker for these Opening and CLosing Olympiad Ceremonies, they always bring some tears to my eyes,.

So great to see people from every country in the world coming together in this way.

I do not have a great interest in the winter sports, but the Opening Ceremony has been brilliant

JadeOlivia Sat 05-Feb-22 11:27:38

Absolutely no.interest

grannie7 Sat 05-Feb-22 11:28:21

Definitely No

Mapleleaf Sat 05-Feb-22 11:31:10

No. Not interested at all.

Rosalyn69 Sat 05-Feb-22 11:31:25

A definite no from me and I am actually disgusted we are there. Have a look at the Dispatches television programme which will be on 4 On Demand. Sorry if I sound snippy but I really am disgusted that athletes went there.

I'm with you Pepper59 . We all oh and aagh about their labour camps/lies about covid/destruction of democracy in Hong Kong.....then we all cheer our Dumbo athletes when they happily skip over there for their own selfish purposes(its a piece of cheap. Metal!) Of winning/taking part (in what exactly? Massaging the vile ego of the vile commies?) And pretend it's all about sports bringing everyone together.... Apart from those in prison/disappeared/exile. I'm also mildly furious.

Sarnia

Always cheer on Team GB, of course. I know a lot of people will disagree with China hosting the Games but for me, sport, religion and politics should never mix. I will watch it for what it is, a celebration of years of commitment from these athletes to compete at the pinnacle of their respective sports.

You sound like someone known to all of us about Olympics back in...oh where was it......oh yes! Berlin1936. IT'S NOT just games and cannot be separated from real life! Politics means'of the people' and it's politics that gets the funding, so flawed case from you. The revelations of abhorrent abuse committed in the pursuit of those "pinnacle" careers is good enough reason alone to switch off don't ya fink?

Larsonsmum Sat 05-Feb-22 11:58:39

Not me.

Spec1alk Sat 05-Feb-22 11:59:04

One of my former pupils Laura Deas who won a medal at the last winter olympics( skeleton bob) is competing. I’ll be cheering her on!!

poshpaws Sat 05-Feb-22 12:01:06

Absolutely not. It appals me that any country which so much as pays lip service to the importance of human rights should have athletes representing them in a country - China -which consistently abuses and ignores human rights. (And animal welfare too!)

BlueBelle Sat 05-Feb-22 12:03:44

No not at all not interested

Kim19 Sat 05-Feb-22 12:07:38

Oh, my experience this morning has certainly whetted my appetite for more. Bring it on.

Nan0 Sat 05-Feb-22 12:13:43

I refuse to watch.Im 65 and since I was 8 have understood what China has done and does in Tibet, complete oppression and genocide , human rights trampled on.Watching the Olympics is condoning China. The Olympic Committee are corrupt.I was in Kashgar 4 years ago and saw the horror of the Uighurs being oppressed..Chinese people are brainwashed and any brave enough are firmly trampled on.Individual Chinses people are lovely but those in power ,Xi and his cronies and those who enforce the Communist Party of China's rules and oppression are evil

Nan0 Sat 05-Feb-22 12:15:43

Agree with you..am NOT WATCHI G!

timetogo2016 Sat 05-Feb-22 12:16:41

I’m with you Pepper, even though I enjoy the winter sports more than the summer ones.
I haven’t seen the Dispatches programme and can’t find it but would have liked to have seen it.

sazz1 Sat 05-Feb-22 12:48:23

No I won't be watching as I very rarely watch sport anyway

greenlady102 Sat 05-Feb-22 12:50:01

answer 1 no
answer 2 hell no

helgawills Sat 05-Feb-22 12:50:28

Franbern I totally agree about trade deals, but sadly this country owes China far too much money, scared they'll demand it all back

Namsnanny Sat 05-Feb-22 12:53:23

HettyBetty

No, really disappointed that GB didn't have the guts to boycott it. Their possibility of getting a few medals is nothing compared to the human rights abuses.

My thoughts too HettyBetty Very disappointed.

GraceQuirrel Sat 05-Feb-22 12:55:31

Jamaica in the bobsled is a must watch!!!

Cossy Sat 05-Feb-22 13:20:07

Me ! Love all the Olympics Shame it’s in China with their atrocious record in human rights and animal treatment !!

Cossy Sat 05-Feb-22 13:25:48

Wow !!

HettyBetty

All the snow is artificial, made at a huge environmental cost. Perhaps if there is nowhere suitable with real snow it is time to discontinue the Winter Olympics.

Sorry HettyBetty

Could not agree with you less !! These athletes are at the pinnacle of their careers - it’s only once every four years and they make lifelong sacrifices to reach the Olympics and are honoured to represent their countries

Joesoap Sat 05-Feb-22 13:26:13

Like many others I only watch the opening and closing ceremonies the in between I don’t watch. I don’t like the Olympics being held in China I am afraid.

SachaMac Sat 05-Feb-22 13:29:11

I’ve never really been a massive fan of the WO. I might catch a glimpse if it’s something really exiting being shown on the sports news round up but otherwise it’s a no from me.

Growing0ldDisgracefully Sat 05-Feb-22 13:38:34

No.
