Last series starts tonight. It will be painful watching it without Aunt Polly ( although I understand they are using some previous unseen footage of her to explain her absence). However I watched something on utube that explained what had happened over the previous seasons and realised that, even though I’ve always watched it I really haven’t had a clue what was going on. I wonder if I’ll be any the wiser at the end of this series?

Can't wait

….still don’t know what’s going on…

Maybe you could read a good synopsis of the last seriesMayBee70 nothing worse than watching stuff you don’t ‘get’.

I don’t understand most things I watch! I realised that years ago. Especially detective type things. The synopsis I watched was very good. I think most people would have made sense of it. My brain doesn’t seem to work that way ( if it works at all ). I just don’t follow plots! Mind you I probably know more about the Charlie Chaplin, gypsy references than most people do. But that’s about it!

What are the Chaplin gypsy references? I love Peaky Blinders despite usually hating violence and bad language. I love the music and the cinematography.

I stopped watching after series 2. As a born and bred Brummie, I can't be doing with all the awful Brummie accents.

Charlie Chaplin is rumoured to have been born to the gypsies living in Black Patch Park, which was close to where I grew up. My uncle’s local was The Garrison.

I only became a PB fan during the first lockdown, binge watched it all. The reason I never watched it originally was because of Cillian Murphy, there’s always been something about him that gives me the creeps, but I have to admit his performance in PB has changed my mind, he’s superb in it.
Last night’s sober Tommy was, if anything, even scarier than his previous persona. His parting words to Michael about Gina travelling to Britain were brilliant. I thought the tribute to Helen McCrory was wonderful. Poor Arthur. Ada coming even more into her own as part of the family. Can’t wait for next week’s episode.

It’s fantastic. Loving it.

Highlight of our weekend viewing (bar the rugby on Saturday!).

Documentary about the real Peaky Blinders in on BBC 2 9pm Monday 7th….

I was disappointed with this second episode. It was literally too dark at times. All Ada did was swear. The highlights for me were the scene in the cathedral, Alfie’s return, Tommy’s speech (I’d vote for him), Lizzie’s instant and obvious dislike of Diana Mitford. And it looks like Esme is about to return.

MayBee70 Tue 08-Mar-22 21:53:43

I wonder which cathedral it was?

grannydarkhair Wed 09-Mar-22 02:06:46

MayBee70 it was the Anglican Cathedral in Liverpool.

Same here. It hurt my ears.

MayBee I have exactly the same thing with plots.
My mind wanders.

Dislike the violence, the swearing, the people, the dark scenes, the Brummie accent not correct for the area they were bought up in. In fact don’t know I watched it.?

MayBee70 Sun 13-Mar-22 23:18:38

I ‘ll stick with it but I still haven’t got the faintest idea what’s going on. And I realised tonight that I do need a bit I’d warmth and humour in a tv series, not constant misery. The accent doesn’t bother me at all, though, a Brummie accent being incredibly difficult to pin down. I couldn’t do a broad Brummie accent if you paid me but I can always pick up on a fellow Brummies accent no matter how un Brummie they sound.

Kate1949 Sun 13-Mar-22 23:28:37

There must be some Brummie actors around who could have played some parts. They seem to think if they say 'yow' instead of 'you' it's job done.

tanith Mon 14-Mar-22 07:16:48

I’m finding this series slow and clunky not much going on. For its final series it’s unremarkable to say the least. I hope Stephan Graham’s appearance carries on and he comes face to face with Tommy.

They are unbelievably bad aren't they?

fiorentina51 Mon 14-Mar-22 08:05:26

I think the actor who plays Arthur Shelby has the most authentic Brummie accent in the series. I used to find the variable attempts at sounding working class brummie irritating at first but I've got past it now.
My little irritants are that certain phrases I know were current at the time and were used by my grandparents (who were in their 30s and 40s at the time The Peaky Blinders is set,) when I was a child, aren't used in the script.
My son thinks it's OK but for me, if you go to the trouble of getting the clothes, cars and settings right, you should research the the language used too.
I'm thinking terms such as, "Tek care bab." and, "Mind 'ow ya cross the 'orse road."
Wireless for radio and Flicks or Flea Pit for the cinema etc.

I hope Stephen Graham appears again, it’s very disappointing if that’s all we see of him. Loved Ada this week, especially her scene with Diana and then Mosley/Jack. Also loved her trouser suit outfit. Gina is a very irritating character, I suppose it shows how good an actress she is. Did any Spiral fans recognise that the man Tommy had the fight with in the pub in Miquelon in the second episode was Clement, the Prosecutor/Lawyer?
General consensus on Mumsnet is that this is leading up to the death of Tommy, possibly by Michael. Ruby, when she was first ill, said to him that “the gray man was coming”.

I found tonight's episode hard to follow and found myself loosing interest towards the end. Anyone else feel the same???
