Anyone else watching Series 2? I'm relieved there aren't any explicit sex scenes in this one and like the 'love' theme.

mokryna Tue 29-Mar-22 19:22:28

Yes, I am watching at the rate of two a day, daren’t watch it more at a time because I don’t know what I will do when it’s finished. When does series 3 start?

Shandy57 Tue 29-Mar-22 19:26:40

Have you watched Anne with an E yet? I loved it - apart from the persecution of the First Nation Indians. Canada didn't apologise until 2009, so shocking when you look into how they were treated.

Really happy Bridgerton is back on. The costumes are wonderful. Love the modern music like Material Girl from last week. Will miss the actor who played the duke from last series though he’s gorgeous.

Just finished and googled, there might be a season 3!

It’s hilarious.So cheesy. I love it.

Only seen snippets and not impressed. So totally historically inaccurate. Are we meant to pretend that racism didn’t exist in the 18 th century and that everyone was able to reach the echelons of British upper class society whatever their background? It’s an utterly absurd production, pretending that the inequalities of racism and classism never happened back in the 18th century, and that, actually, everyone was equal and had the opportunity to reach high social standing. Talk about dumbing down. What an insulting production it is.

Lighten up Mapleleaf it takes place in a parallel reality where everyone was the same race - the human race.

vegansrock Sat 02-Apr-22 06:11:58

It’s fantasy/ fiction mapleleaf not an accurate portrayal of the 18th century. You’ll be telling me that Batman or Superman is insulting as people can’t fly around in cloaks. I love it - real escapism and visually stunning.

You have to take Bridgerton with a pinch of salt. I binge watched Series 2 and it was good to have some escapism. The sets and costumes are sumptuous.

Initially I was not impressed. However when staying with DD we watched it together and I was hooked. I haven’t started series 2 yet as I’m saving it for later.

I’m enjoying it for what it is, although it is difficult to be colour blind when we know how segregated classes were then.
I like the conceit of the unknown gossip writer, it works well.

My daughter works in tv and film, this is 21st century colour blind casting.

I've just had a google, you might like this article.

I binge watched it last week end. I enjoyed it but thought it was not very close to the book so I re-read that and it differs substantially. No Queen Charlotte in the book and Lady Danvers appears once. I also thought that it was too long, considering the short plot in the book.

There are 9 books in the series (I think) and the producers plan to make them all into tv series, if they remain popular. They are a treat to look at and I think it's good that the producers are colour blind.

I downloaded the books when they were 99p on kindle. There are many Georgette Heyer novels now on kindle and some are quite pricey. A few weeks ago kindle had 9 on offer at 99p so I downloaded them all. I do have all her novels in paperback, hidden in a chest but kindle is an easier read, especially in bed at night. Heyer's books are a class above Julia Quinn's novels.

No sex this time? - oh - won't watch then smile

hollysteers Sat 02-Apr-22 12:45:33

Georgette Heyes’s novels are in a class of their own and she would turn in her grave if colour blind casting was used if her novels were dramatised, worthy though it is.
I read her novels from the age of fourteen and she was a massive part of my reading life then.

Rosalyn69 Sat 02-Apr-22 12:48:01

I agree that it bears no semblance to reality and as such is disappointing. Dumbed down indeed.

hollysteers Sat 02-Apr-22 12:51:10

Heyers not Heyes.

hollysteers Sat 02-Apr-22 13:15:11

Heyer not Heyers?

Oopsadaisy1 Sat 02-Apr-22 13:26:53

I think it’s brilliant and funny, a brief explanation to the ‘Colour Blind Casting’ was made in Series 1. When it was said that if Queen Charlotte was to fall out of grace with King George they would all fall out of favour (Duke of Hastings was speaking to Lady Danvers) and that they had only become Lords and Ladies because of the Queen.

I love the colours of the clothes, the Sharmas dresses were beautiful.

I also love the orchestra playing modern songs.

Brilliant, must be careful and slow down the binge watching.

As for accuracy, I enjoy it for what it is, entertainment.

I was watching a series the other day and written on various surfaces, brick wall, doors was the phrase ‘ this story is completely true except those parts that are fiction’ and that was from a ‘true story’. As I said before, entertainment

Shandy57 Sat 02-Apr-22 20:16:28

I watched that series Oopsadaisy, thought it was marvellous.

I've run out of good things to watch now and it's Saturday night! I should have saved something.

Shandy57 Sat 02-Apr-22 22:07:10

It's been driving me mad, I had to google it! Watching far too much far too fast, need to have a break.

merlotgran Sat 02-Apr-22 23:42:34

I’ve just watched episode 4. Trying hard not to binge as I want it to last.

Eloise is my favourite character. I wish there was more of her.

mokryna Sat 02-Apr-22 23:59:52

It reminds me of a Bollywood film but with no singing.

dawntreader1 Sun 03-Apr-22 00:22:52

I have just finished watching series two and enjoyed it as much as the first. Of course it is ridiculous but I loved all of it - sets, costumes, characters, intrigue, and especially the colour blind casting. The acting is superb. What a breath of fresh air. Can't wait for series 3
