I watched it. I was shocked to learn that after he'd died and the investigation was ongoing around 400 people came forward to say Savile had abused them - ages ranging from 5 to 75. Dreadful.

Jimmy Savile: A British Horror Story
(65 Posts)Will anybody be watching this on Netflix? The Independent was quite scathing, The Guardian gave it a good review. I’m undecided, the sight of him makes me feel queasy but I feel like there’s an awful lot still being hushed up.
Not sure I want to watch it really. I watched a documentary uploaded onto You Tube a few weeks ago and it made for uncomfortable viewing. According to the investigating journalist, there were quite a few details not generally released to the public when it all came to light. Like the fact that Saville had several meetings in prison with the Yorkshire Ripper. There was a suspicion that Saville had known who he was before he was caught and had approached him to ‘dispose’ of a prostitute who was proving difficult for Saville. Apparently Saville’s flat was on the top floor of a four storey block and after everything came to light, the local authority removed the whole top floor of the building to discourage hordes of sightseers. His mother’s flat was at a seaside resort and after her death, was put up for sale - reportedly bought as a holiday home for the CEO of the NSPCC. You couldn’t make this stuff up !!
Beware of 'charmers'.
I shall watch it. Like most, I was repelled by him, but I too was surprised at the Rolf Harris revelations, I always thought him a talented and likeable eccentric. What intrigues me the most about Savile is how he was able to manipulate important people.
We watched a programme called National Treasure, National Disgrace which was about Savile, Gary Glitter, Stuart Hall and Rolf Harris - it was eye-opening, stomach-churning stuff.
My DH was working for the Beeb when Top Of The Pops started and he said he always tried to keep out of the way of JS as there was something about him that made DH's skin prickle ...
The Apostle Paul tells us in 2 Corinthians 11:14. “ Satan disguises himself as an angel of light” . Always felt something was not quite right about JS. Terrible for all those victims. I sincerely hope they get the best help available.
I watched the National Treasure programme, and I agree with other posters that JS always seemed creepy to me, as did Jess Yates ( does anyone remember him?) and was not surprised about GG but Rolf Harris- didn't see that coming at all.
Having seen Rolf Harris in real life I thought he was a really nice chap that was a big surprise Gary Glitter, Jimmy Saville both looked really sleazy is GG still in prison ?
Yes I will be watching I think we need to watch this awful stuff to be more aware
JS seemed mentally manic and narcissistic loving the attention Didn’t he live with his mum and was said to adore her, was she called Queenie ? Did he ever have any normal relationships well normal as in age range?
He really fitted the description of a groomer; possibly why people never put into words what they had seen/suspected/heard.
He actively sought out friends in high places.
Its telling that even people who never crossed paths with him felt he was a creep.
BlueBelle, no he never had ‘relationships’ much less any in a ‘normal’ age range.
I think that's why he kept up the "excentric" narrative - it was all an agenda, played out to allow him to do whatever he wanted, and that he got a kick out of hiding in plain sight.
With hindsight, he almost told people what he was up to, many times, if they had thought to pick up on it.
Following two mass shootings, acts of terrorism and hatred, at mosques in Christchurch, NZ, Jacinda Aderne decreed that the name of the terrorist would never be said again. Denying him validation, notoriety, whatever he craved.
I’d like to see the same world over so that once dead or prosecuted the names of the evil disappeared with them.
No I won’t be watching for that reason.

That's a very good idea.
These terrorists thrive on things like the promise of their names being mentioned not to mention all those virgins that are supposed to waiting for them.
I'm sure it doesn't fit their idea of an ideal afterlife to be ignored and laughed at.
The most shocking part of this documentary is the fact the BBC and the Police did not act on information, he was given a golden ticket.
I feel for all the victims, they were aged from 7 to 75 male and female, many were vulnerable, who even knows if they were all still breathing.
The man was a monster.
He even dropped huge hints about his offending and kept using acronyms such as “case up next Thursday”
My husband had a childhood friend who was a super fan, he is hazy on the facts but remembers her boasting that she had been to his flat in Roundhay and travelled in his car.
There were probably many more victims than we will ever know.
Thankfully I think lessons have been learnt
Such a vile person so full of his own importance he thought he could get away with anything, there must be others who where doing the same and never caught.
His name should never be mentioned in the media again in my opinion.

I don't think that applies to people like Savile. Unlike these terrorists, he committed multiple offences over several decades. We need to keep remembering them to make sure it never happens again. What about Hitler, the worst offender of all? He is remembered ad infinitum through movies, documentaries, books. I never realised there were so many TV programmes about Hitler, they are on every day on PBS America channel. We shouldn't forget these evil people and just sweep them under the carpet.
PS: Also what about all the serial killers who are studied in documentaries, movies, dramas, books? The TV schedules are awash with programmes on serial killers! I'm not sure why anyone thinks Savile is so exceptionally evil that his name must never be breathed again. There are hundreds of evil people who are remembered.
People did get away with things then and victims were ignored. It was a different culture where you had to accept inappropriate behaviour. We had one very sleazy guy at work who would leer all over you and squeeze up against you if you were alone on the stairs. I complained to my boss who just laughed! I tried to avoid and never be alone with him thereafter. This was just small scale but on a larger scale you had Saville etc who were permitted by those in the know to continue with their unspeakable behaviour. It was always in the papers as well about how wonderful he was, had been a hard working miner and looked after his dear old mum all adding to the illusion of a fantastic person and didn’t he make sure we knew it. I can’t watch the programme as my flesh will crawl. Another one who was mummy’s darling boy who never married either was Cyril Smith.
Chestnut, I’m pretty sure my post didn’t single out Saville, I was clear that I meant all evil monsters including Hitler, child molesters, murderers, paedophiles and hopefully soon include Putin.
Laura How can you forget all these evil people? They need to be remembered so lessons will be learnt. Maybe that's just wishful thinking, as the evil never actually go away, but we do need to learn from them. Anyway, judging by the number of programmes on evil people shown on TV I think you're fighting a losing battle!
It has always perplexed me that his name is pronounced as Saville which I think needs 2 L’s I think the way his name is written is SaVILE.. So very appropriate..
There have always been creepy blokes around.
When I was 12 and at the girls' grammar school, our middle aged headmistress married an elderly man who scared us. He would linger outside the school in the afternoons and try to chat up the girls as we left, or touch us on the arm as we went by. He was leery. We used to laugh about him and run past, or leave by a different exit, but it does make you wonder whether he married the headmistress of a girls' school in order to have what seemed legitimate access to 750 girls.
I never got the way people seemed to almost fall over themselves to support this weird man. Rolf Harris, yes I could understand that, because he has a certain artistic talent and always superficially seemed a decent sort but Savile, no. He always looked and acted in a nasty, creepy way with his horrible hair and makeup.
Growing up in the 60s and 70s, I could not bear to watch Savile. He was odd, creepy and, quite frankly, boring. He had nothing to say, all silly noises and catch phrases. I could never understand why people adored and fawned over him. So I had to force myself to watch this documentary and though it made my flesh crawl, I am glad I did. Because I have always tried to avoid any TV programme he was on, much of the footage was new to me. It is astonishing that he got away with this his entire life, using his so-called good works to provide him with a constant stream of people, young and old, to sexually assault. Just as Selina Scott said that the camera does lie, so it goes to prove that you can fool all of the people all of the time. Or was it that the establishment protected him? When you have royalty, prime minsters and popes eating out of your hand you can get away with anything. It was well known in BBC circles that he “liked young girls”. Why was he never investigated in his lifetime? Because he had the police in his pocket too? Why were West Yorkshire police in regular attendance at his Friday parties? It was all so rotten.
