Which TV show from the past would you like resurrected?

Looking back to the days of only 3/4 television channels and no recordings it was such a thing to stay in and watch your favourite TV shows.

As a little girl I loved Val Doonican in his rocking chair, getting older it was Call my Bluff with Frank Muir, I can remember Dixon of Dock Green, and Z Cars.
Saturday afternoons I think were The Golden Shot and I remember desperately looking forward to Anna Sewell’s Black Beauty.
If I could resurrect any show it would probably be The Waltons, I would love to sit and watch it with my Granddaughter, I think she would really enjoy it.

Great choices Sago. One of my favourites was White Horses, I loved it. So I guess I’d also love to see Moonlighting, Red Dwarf, The Young Ones, The Persuaders, Fawlty Towers and Tomorrow’s World.

Tomorrow's World. I loved learning all about new gadgets etc, and in these digital days it would be even more fascinating.
I do watch Click, but still would like TW back, please BBC.

Some of the older programmes (and movies) have dated badly and are quite a disappointment when you see them now.

The one I'm LOVING at the moment is Terry Wogan's interviews from the 1980s and 1990s. They are amazing! So many interesting people giving proper interviews. It's been on every week and is a highlight of my viewing. Nothing like that on TV these days.

I liked Dixon of Dock Green too, also Inspector Lockhart from New Scotland Yard, can’t remember the programme’s name. I would probably find them very tame today, but not violent or full of swearing.

You can watch the Waltons on Amazon Prime.

I used to really like Callan with the lovely Edward Woodward and Randall and Hopkirk (Deceased)

Little House On The Prairie was a favourite of mine. I even bought the Box Set of episodes. Some of my grandchildren loved watching them with me too.

GSMInspector Lockhart was no hiding place, also had a young Johnny Briggs ( Mike Baldwin from Corrie) as his sergeant.

Yes, that’s it! Thanks.

Tomorrows World- and also (can't remembers the name of it - might have been All Our Yesterdays), this would never date as it showed footage from 25 years ago. Would love that to come back.

Has anyone mentioned Cagney and Lacey? That was my treat on a Friday evening when MrP was out and the babies were in bed.

Oh yes! Cagney and Lacey, Duchess of Duke Street.

Wagon Train, Bonanza, Rawhide, Cheyenne and Sugar Foot were all favourites in our house. Also The Clampetts.

Porridge, with the late Ronnie Barker, and the lovely Richard Beckinsale, taken far too soon.
Rising Damp, also with Richard B and a young and gorgeous Don Warrington too.

It's A Knockout ( without Stuart Hall of course ) we really used to love it .

Chestnut Thu 05-May-22 16:24:18

London's Burning - from the very start because it became tacky towards the end.

Ready Steady Go with Cathy McGowan (the Claudia Winkelman of the 60s/70s. ) live performances, much better than stuffy old Top of the Pops... and no dodgy DJs...

Richard chamberlain the worst casting ever as Ralph de Bricassart !,

Lucca Thu 05-May-22 17:23:14

There are some showings of Yes Prime Minister, amazingly well written, and acted

Chestnut Thu 05-May-22 17:25:16

But they can cast Richard Chamberlain in anything and I'd like it. Loved 'Shogun' too, would like to see that return.

I watched every episode of Tenko recently (Drama channel) and it was absolutely amazing. They don't do reality like that any more. You were in that camp suffering with them.
