Sad news, the Sweeney & Minder were always a big favourite in our house.

Oh yes I'd forgotten about that. I didn't think he was the bees knees, I just enjoyed some of the programmes. Not wishing to speak ill of the dead, my sister met him once and said he was unpleasant.

The same goes for Sean Connery another woman’s icon who public ally said it was ok to give a woman a little slap

BlueBelle Sun 08-May-22 17:01:46

Perhaps those who thought he was the bees knees need to read up ( he did admit to punching her on at least two occasions)
Dennis Waterman has been accused of trivialising domestic violence after he described hitting his former wife Rula Lenska but said she was not "a beaten wife”

You’re rightBlueBelle I saw the interview where he confessed it. I had a lot more sympathy for Rula Lenska after that.

BlueBelle Sun 08-May-22 16:58:52

I believe Rula Lenski said she was the victim of domestic violence when she was married to him

but he was unexpectedly overshadowed by George Cole.

Not in my book, FannyCornforth, was he.

So sorry to read this. RIP Dennis.

eazybee Sun 08-May-22 16:39:44

I am very sorry to hear this.

FannyCornforth Sun 08-May-22 16:37:01

Yes, he was married to Lenska (it was a bit Taylor/ Burton I think)
And his daughter is Hannah Waterman

ixion Sun 08-May-22 16:36:06

Noooooo ?

FannyCornforth Sun 08-May-22 16:35:11

Oh no. He really was an icon of the 1970s British TV.
Minder was created as vehicle for him following the success of The Sweeney, but he was unexpectedly overshadowed by George Cole.
He was an incredibly charismatic man

Serendipity22 Sun 08-May-22 16:32:51

Ohhhhhh, I didnt know ( until I just seen this )

You say he was 74! That is young.

I loved him in Minder with Arthur, wasnt Dennis married to Rula Lenska ( sorry about spelling)

rosie1959 Sun 08-May-22 16:31:30

Kate1949 Sun 08-May-22 16:29:23

I wonder how old he was? I did enjoy New Tricks and Minder. It makes me feel old also when well loved folk like him die.

Ailidh Sun 08-May-22 16:28:43

Just seen it in the BBC app. ?

Kate1949 Sun 08-May-22 16:28:05

My husband gets news flashes on his phone. It's just come up.

rafichagran Sun 08-May-22 16:27:11

I liked him too. I did not know he died.

Kate1949 Sun 08-May-22 16:25:41
